I agree very much. It could benefit both games as well.
There could be XI people open to trying or playing XIV more regularly at a reduced cost.
Still nowhere close. F2P means constant reminders that there is something to buy: whether it's your action bars, inventory, every quest you turn in, at every in game vender, your character screen, there is always something you can buy to "improve" your game experience. You have to develop tunnel vision to ignore all the currency symbols and other reminders to have any sense of immersion.
I'm subbed to both so this would be nice for me. I've been hoping for years that they'd release Dragon Quest X in the US and have some sort of package sub for all three.
I don't think it makes much sense to do now though. Both games have free trials and "please come back" campaigns. Everyone playing XI already knows if they want to play XIV, and a couple bucks off the price isn't going to sway them.
Honestly, They should eliminate individual game subscriptions and just create a Square Enix Online subscription that covers the entirety of their online content. This would make it easier for them to also finally expand Dragon Quest X outside of Japan and probably would have helped keep Front Mission Online going had they done this back then. Additionally I feel it's inevitable there will be more online games in the future.
This is a nice idea to be sure, though they have some existing work to be done with integrating the subscription models/backend spread across each game. FFXI's subscription needs to adapt from PlayOnline to Mogstation in the same way that FFXIV 1.0 did to 2.0
I played ffxi for years and with a reduced sub for both games I would again. Right now I try to long in when they have free events but I can't commit my limited time between 2 mmos but if it was 1/2 price maybe I could finally finish the last expansion and the story that ties everything together. Sadly almost every ffxi free week lands on a major patch of ffxiv.
Would this unlock every expansion and addon content as well? I would definitely pay a few extra dollars a month for a bundle subscription but I don't know if I'd be want to buy another 3-4 expansion packs and those mini content addons.
