Yes, and Eureka is supposed to be the antithesis of that. It was why he made the comparison in that interview.

If nothing else, if FFXIV is to truly thrive and not stagnate then it needs more content that lasts beyond a few days or weeks. This game has a lot of loyal players who stick with it through thick and thin so appeasing them is not the worst thing in the world.
I don't know if the Japanese market is quite different in the content they like to run or is SE is just off kilter in general but if Eureka is anything at all like Diadem I'm going to need a strong drink. The only good thing about that place was the Pegasus whistle and the giant brontosaurus who would wreck unsuspecting players.
I really hope it's something that I can enjoy, because if it isn't, well, I guess I'll see you all at 5.0...maybe if then?
I mean, it's understandable that a game isn't exactly what I wanted but I've been playing on and off since 1.0. And since 2.0, this game has been rerun after rerun.
This is why we need more mmo AAA competition than this and a 15 year old MMO that's been on top for nearly all of those 15 years...

I'm excited. Death = Deleveling of items will provide a feeling of unease and danger that I miss from the old days of mmo's. Plus the complaint threads that idiots will make whining about being punished for bad decision making will be a hoot.
The part I'm dreading is the RNG. Yoshi stated you'll need drops from NMs to upgrade your gear. That means either an insane number of drops or insanely low RNG on the drops...not really looking forward to that.
I’m excited for a sense of danger...but I regret to say my initial reaction to the Eureka info from the live letter is apathy and disappointment. Based on what they showed Eureka is a monster grind with an elemental leveling system to it and the occasional powerful monster. Sounds like Diadem 3.0. After all the delays I was hoping for something more meaty, something new. Even the gear rewards are just recolored AF or reused designs from FFXI. I’ll reserve final judgement until I can play it, but right now I’m really let down.
So it's XI's de-leveling system (gross ptsd here) with XIV's combat; potd's aetherpool, sort of, but with elements and the need for drops from specific NMs (Notorious Monsters); no sign of FATEs in the Live Letter, which tells me that the NMs may spawn on timers or conditions (or both) like in XI.
But yay, relics finally?
Gods I hope they don't go achievement crazy on this line like they did with HW's animas, or Gilg's achievement hunters are going to be moaning and groaning over having to do Eureka for the two weeks it lasts as populated content. <_<
