It's all in how you want to play, sure, but when you think about it isn't it better to see what things are without having to hover over each one? Especially if you're like the typical player who has a ton of armor and weapons during farming/raid sessions from MMOs that has enemies that drop it lol.
well, being a PC game still, and soon also PS3 i can imagine bags being more convenient for some.
i aswell wish that FFXIV had a quicker responding UI with drag&drops skills/item, and bags in this manner would allow to have a view over all the items in that bag, without needing to scroll thru them.
anyways, i'm allways for fast and easy, and at some point i would love to stop using controller and go back to KB & mouse, but currently it's just alot more relaxing with pad, tho very annoying and slow lol
This is one of the few things in the new design process I am unhappy to hear about. I do not like the inventory bag system. If we are stuck with this, I hope SE implements it in a different way. I much prefer my sorted inventory list combined with different sorting methods, you know like every other Final Fantasy game ever made.
Truth to be told, no, it isn't easier to see with icons at least for me. Why? When I see a bunch of icons together I start to phase out and not realize what each icon means so I need to mouseover to see what the popup says. Then if I don't feel like waiting forever reading everything with care I often pass through the same spot three or four times without realizing what I am looking is that.
That comes from playing games like Neverwinter Nights which had similar inventory systems.
ALSO, I do believe that the 'bag' system is for the UI only so you can quickly identify your gear/consumable status without having to open up an item window, whereas item-using will be it's own tabbed list display. Or at least I hope it is so, because while I am all for the bag idea in the active UI I sure as hell don't want that on my item menu, MUCH LESS on my usable item menu because it is already a goddamn mess thew ay it is, doing it with icons is going to make it worse.
Ugh. I would rather have the list view to where one can simply look through the list and find what is needed. I am 100% not interested in this. If there is an option to have the now-implemented "Inventory List" view OR have this 5x5 Bag view, then it's whatever, but if this is replacing the list view entirely, I am pretty much all against this.
Hopefully it won't be as cluttered as WoW and its clones tend to be.
I'm a list person myself but not only does the OP's picture highlight visual real estate being monopolized by bags but also needlessly so. I'm sure I'd be able to adjust to such a system eventually but so many of those items are the same item. What's the point in that. Just show a number right next to them and group like types together.
I'm open to the concept of visually organizing your own inventory but we should be able to manually organize our inventory even from a list perspective. As of now we have general styles or a very convoluted way of making a personalized organization system (trading items between you and a retainer in the order you'd prefer*).
*Good ol' CE release inventory management.
