Indeed, a standard MMORPG would do better than an XI-2, even though I've yet to see anyone ever say remake Vana`diel -- Generally just the ones who hate XI assume anything being used from XI would mean make a sequel, since said people don't know the difference between using what works and make it better/do your own spin of it (standard MMORPG) and learning from what you did and not throwing away the experience (learning from XI and making it better, not worse.)

This speaks more about your personal insecurities about XIV becoming an MMORPG you hate. Only an idiot would think a company using ideas from their previous game and expanding on it or making it better is a bad thing.

Any smart company would learn from their mistakes and used what worked, it worked for the gaming industry for 20+ years, why would it suddenly not work now? It worked for Bioware and people seem to be lapping up SWTOR.

Just to point this out there: HNM gear can be Materia Melded, so...

The whole point is: I have a Cobalt Winglet which is L50. Why should I take an Aeolian Scimitar which is L50 but gives me less stats?
I would use it just for cool-looking, but out of that there's no other reason.

The new gear didn't blast it away though materia did, green and blue items can't compete with 2 and 3 times materia pieces.

It's the biggest problem in the game for me at the moment, I don't want to play a game where the best gear is craftable.

Its just my opinion, but it is likely that after the devs take a look at player feedback and the prevalence of materia, future (blue rarity) U/U gear will be made to be equivalent to 2-meld gear.

My guess is that when 2.0 is out, all the old HNMs will be replaced by new ones, and their gear will be new as well and balanced appropriately.

only if the NM's are harder. The NM's in game right now are all super easy. Dodore has the most useful drop and prob is also the most challenging.(not counting SH nm's)

also a bunch of the nm gear is meldable so thats a step in the right direction.
