So time to a scenario that's been possible since before even SB.

It's unreasonable for teleports to cost? Your issue only effects new players, who have to have had connections to at least two locations. By that point, you're probably level 5. If you make a mistake, a player can bail you out, and just mention that they should be more careful with their teleports because the costs add up. Will a new player be sad they can't just go to the fc house whenever? Sure. Like how I'm sad anything costs gil or time.

Also, about the favored "issue." You get a home point, three discount locations, and one freebie to go along with that if you beef up your security. What are you doing that's requiring you to need more? I just set it to three places I'm likely to teleport, then my home to Kugane. I don't have teleport cost issues, and I don't even use the tickets square gave me because it's really not an issue. Your fc can help you. That's what an FC is meant for, right? A group to players to help and play together? Not just some afk pool of heat of battle?

It's a habit picked up early on as a low-level player, back when gil was barely trickling in and I could hardly ever afford to teleport anywhere. I'm the same way, I was frugal, and only by being so is the only way that I've managed to save up so much money, because I don't really like crafting all that much. I still hesitate to teleport (without a ticket) to any place that's over 400-ish gil.

People saying that gil is so easy to come by constantly sound like they don't actually remember being a new player and how slowly gil actually trickles in, and is then spent on continuing to adventure. This is why I have the concern at all! And considering everyone saying that we have solutions, they aren't built into the system, which I think is the problem. They're nice enough to give new players in a company the ability to go to a house, especially in Shirogane, despite not having access to Stormblood content, but then they don't seem to have built in a way for those players to get out without inconvenience. They shouldn't have to burn their Return just to get back to Eorzea without eating into their savings, and they shouldn't have to otherwise spend so much money to get to any location from Shirogane.

OP is correct that every penny counts as a brand new player. You do make money via the MSQ, but you're likely to spend a chunk of that on gear as you start to learn your way through the game.

Gear earning via dungeons and tomes doesn't become ordinary until later, especially for DPS players with only a very small pool of dungeons and even longer queues, so this puts a bigger crunch on those fresh sprouts if their FC is Shirogane based.

Asking for teleport money is a really hard thing to do...

BUT, if the rates are much lower for an FC house than most of the teleport rates to and from Eorzea to Othard, then it won't be an issue.

Why even let new players go to Shirogane, should have made them wait to they actually get proper access from doing the story. Like they can even afford to go there via teleport, they need to unlock that first, then make some Gil to pay to teleport to a place not even known about for a long time... !

Considering gil is easy to come by...I don't see the problem. And as someone mentioned already, they can use tickets if they're keen on saving every last gil they can. In the end, not really an issue. Waiting 15 min to use Return is also an option. Just find something to do in the mean time, or afk for the duration. Whatever works.

I would have thought that was obvious. As a new player, it's going to be a little while into 2.0 before spending 500-1000 gil moving back and forth between Shirogane wouldn't feel like a huge dent to their wallets. Regardless of what solutions we can figure out as players, we shouldn't need to find workarounds in a system they (half-)made.

I'm not doing anything, it's the fact that three favored destinations and a free return made sense back when we only had three city-states with a handful of aetherytes, one of them being an endgame town. At that point, we paid for the convenience of teleporting to non-citystates. Then Heavensward came out, and we had a new citystate, but no new favored destination, then we got Stormblood, which gave us a bunch of new aetherytes and a citystate on the other side of the map that maxes out the teleportation fee, and we still got no new favored destinations. Our list of destinations keeps growing, but our ability to discount some of those has not.

How very nice for you, a player who has gotten to the endgame three times and amassed a small fortune...unlike new players, that this concern is about.

Sure the FC can help, but the FC helping its members should not be the solution to an in-game feature.

FCs worried about this can just stay in the old zones, surely? My FC isn't as we don't recruit, and if we do get any new friends joining we'll support them.

I just got an alt through the MSQ so I know how the money issues are. I would have just used Return normally if I wanted to count my coins. Heck, my main is comparatively loaded and I still just use Return to save a few pennies here and there.

Likewise, Gold Saucer is also inherently cheaper as it maximum price is 499 gil. Choosing it as a prefered destination makes its cost never higher than 249 gil, with then free airship to Ul'dah and a 120 gil fee to Limsa or Gridania or 150 gil to Ishgard.

I'm going to have to agree with the OP. New players usually don't craft, and spend all the MSQ gil on gear and teleports. No idea where people are getting the "the game throws gil at you" from; teleports are constantly making people poor when leveling a first class, and that was when people went straight from 1 to 60. Keep in mind roulettes don't become a significant part of the game until you are well into it, and generally take time away from doing the story if you're going to spend a couple months getting from beginning to the last expansion; you don't need to actively level until you hit the high 40s, and newcomers enter Heavensward at level 54-58. Now people are going to be going from 1 to 70 unless there's some major element in the game that says "stop the msq for a while and go do crafting/roulettes etc."

why would a new player with little to no gil teleport to a shirogane for 249gil without a backup plan anyway?
you need gil? pick up gathering, or if you are never gonna craft ever, sell your elemental shards, that makes some pocket change.

or better yet don't try to recruit noobies off the bat unless you know them before-hand?
