Like I said, I fully support a VR option for Final Fantasy 14, the full immersion of walking around in the game is hard to explain to people who haven't tried VR.

I felt heat playing farpoint, moving right beside those fiery debris and I was sure I felt the heat and I got the fan pointed right at me during that time (Fan helps with VR sickness), I also felt grossly wet playing Resident Evil 7, when I splash down neck deep in putrid water, lol that was intense
The first time I turned all the lights off and played Dreadhalls. Was totally immersed and ghost jumped out at me out of nowhere, scared the living bejezzus out of me. I kicked the couch (the general direction the thing was coming from) which made me think I kicked something irl I guess, ripped the headset and headphones off and went running into the living room flipping on the lights and screaming like a child. I haven't played it since lmao
That being said, having played a lot of VR games now from both the Oculus and PS VR, it would definitely be cool to have a VR side quest of some sort, even if it was additional cost, but I don't think they could just recreate the whole game for VR. VR games right now are equivalent to like, N64 era graphics, they'd have to remake most of the whole game I'd think just to accomplish it. That's probably why there was just the one titan fight spin-off.
So, it'd be cool if they released something in VR, but it would have to be something additional to the game I think, or just a certain section rebuilt for VR. At least until the technology makes significant strides in capability. But I have no technical expertise one way or the other, just my observations.
While SOA is cool and MMOs would be perfect for VR in theory. Most are third person and VR to really be an immersive experience needs to be first person. FFXIV just wouldn't fit the bill. Like you suggested, gathering, would be as far as it could go really. Combat isn't really designed for first person in this game. Of course I am confident as VR matures we will see a kick ass MMO, and honestly I feel VR will be the next step for MMOs, since lately they have become quite stagnant and non-innovative as they once were.
There is a very small ray of hope though, since SE is already experimenting with the idea of VR.

its just a fishing game in the world of FF15 and I don't think they would implement something on 14 without reworking the entire game from the ground up, but its still good to know that their open to this new technology.
Well. some things..
First. I think people are knockiing VR before trying decent VR. Your phone doesnt count and is shit. Im sorry. Vive and PSVR are far superior.
Second. When i tried VR it was obviously no longer a gimmick. It took my breath. I thought I knew what i was getting into, but most people cant even describe it. Its something you have to try to actually understand. It will catch on. It just wont be as huge as Ps4 or Xbox 1. It just needs price drops and some time. Do you know how many people want to play VR MMOs and VR porn? lol theres definitely a market. I'm simply waiting on games to be made. Most things are still testing the waters and hardly worth playing. We do have some really good ones, though few.
and last, I support FFXIV VR but the hud will need to be changed a little. Camera will need to be allowed to rotate around more freely and then just add side by side stereoscopic rendering. This will be hard for those who play with kb and dont have good muscle memory, but for controller/gaming pad+gaming mice users itll be fine.
1. I've tried the Vive/Rift. Good for games that are designed for VR, like I said, Elite Dangerous and Assetto Corsa. I tried a demo of proper VR at a convention. I've also played the former game with the rubbish "phone VR" - and aside from the stupid VR drift because my phone is aluminium... it's breathtaking even on a phone.
2. I agree, it's no longer a gimmick. It's a really immersive experience, for games designed with it in mind. I believe ETS2 supports VR as well, I will be dabbling into that at some point.
3. FFXIV was designed for tab target massive hotbar 3rd person combat. I daresay this is clearly not a good one for VR. So much would have to be remade, since I don't think FFXIV would work well with VR. Now, if they made say a FF17 MMO with VR in mind, that'd be a blast and would probably be really good, but I don't think they can feasibly make FF14 good for VR without changing so much it risks alienating the current user base.
