Yeah... I don't know why this thread exists. Words are wasted on trying to explain the stupidity.

I suspose you're right. Although, given that the other 2 server population threads currently have close to 10,000 combined views, I think it's natural that some might question why the subject merits that much attention.

i think you get the point, in a full pop server every 5-10mins theres another party being made for a dungeon, or battle, every day in ffxi or any high pop game you can do anything you wanted to do. you didn't have to wait for the 3people in your ls to gather the "troops" you don't have to be a pug in your own guild or ls. even with the lack of content we have right now, if the population was high i bet alot more people will end up staying and having a better time.
i take you back to ffxi launch, cities nice and full ... i was doing regular quests and seeing 3-10people doing same ones. you can do missions all day long repeatedly if wanted. dunes was packed, every exp camp was packed. you can put together a group in like 5mins. it just makes a mmo live. it's what a mmo is. it's people all jumbling around together ....did you not feel that with this patch? when we did the nm's for moogle there was everyone there. it wasn't alot of people in our server but it was very exciting and fun. every inch of that grid zone with people bussling about, dying raising and killing together. even auht urgan expansion everyone running threw all the new zones living and dying together exploring all the zones, doing the new class quests and missions. that is the only true thing i need from a mmo. it's why i like launch of mmo's, i even enjoyed ffxiv launch cause of this, i miss 15man crab exp grinds lol. i can go on but you get my point. it's all about grouping for me and options and no people on a server just means theres only one option.
I guess because, yea, it matters.
im going to have to disagree.
Since launch i have had a really hard time finding much of anything that i need at any given time on Selbina in the MW.
The more people that play gives you more options of who you can play with.
Larger populations gives you the option to have several linkshells to organize who you will play with and do what when.
Larger populations also contribute to the games production speed due to subscriptions.
Larger populations have a greater influence as to the future direction of the games content due to a wider range of taste in gaming.
do you realize that without the western complaints of not having a hardware mouse we would have never gotten one? it took about two months to get the hardware mouse.
It was specifically stated by Tanaka that the JP were fine with the software mouse and they at that point had no plans to add the hardware mouse. if there were 5 americans playing we most likely wouldnt have a hardware mouse today.
the list goes on, large populations have several effects on gaming.
