To be honest I wouldn't move servers even if they offered a free sub for life. unless virtually all my friends moved.
this game is enjoyable but its not great, as a result of that it's not so much the game that keeps me playing. but the people I play with that keep me playing...
many of those people are people I played XI with for almost a decade and when picking up 1.0 our xi ls had decided we would reside on saronia as it was so named back then. others I met way back in 1.0 before we merged with lindbulm and gave birth to sargatanas..
the result of that is I've got roots and connections all over the place. and its those friends that keep me playing. so there's no way i'd ever change a server without them...
I'm also thankful we picked saronia way back then. cos man if we were on balmung...... that would suck
The thing that stopped me and mine from moving from Balmung was losing our FC and house that we waited a long time to secure. We also have a fully outfitted airship fleet and a nearly complete sector map that serves as a not-insigifigant income source for our company. SE has offered zero compensation for this if we move, so we'd have to resort to ToS-questionable dealings to see any returns.
Even if we did manage to recover our significant time and gil investment there aren't any comparable plots left on any available Aether data center world for us to relocate to, so a move would effectively make us homeless. We could wait for Shirogane's opening to see if anything agreeable opens up, but that means leaving things up to whims of other players and the mercy of the login queue on move day. Plus we'd have to level a new FC to estate-purchasing rank, and then unlock the sector map all over again.
If SE wants us to give up what we have to alleviate the problem of their own making (I've been on Besaid since day one...) then we need to be offered something AT LEAST of equal value to even get us to the table.
1) Transfer of FC as-is or creation of new FC at equivalent rank with the same amount of FC credits.
2) Transfer of estate as-is to same plot on new world or guaranteed pick of equivalent-class or better plot in housing district of choice.2a) If an as-is transfer is impossible, then adequate monetary compensation comparable to personal houses/apartments must be made for the loss of FC estate/personal rooms to allow the company and its members to re-establish on their guaranteed pick of new plot.3) Company Workshop status (unlocked blueprints, unlocked sector map) must be preserved.
If/When SE offers this, then they'll start seeing people leave the server in droves. FCs will do right by their people and move to better opportunities. I for one will not make my people take a loss because SE kept the side door open too long after this server hit max capacity.
Unfortunately because multiple servers partake in the transfers, I don't think they would be able to guarantee anyone the same plot, much less the same size plot. In addition they'd have to completely lock down the wards from anyone being able to buy a house on the destination server in such a case. Best case scenario is they'd keep all the workshop/airship progress locked to an fc instead of the house and allowed the fc to transfer over with the leader.
The ability to keep everything about my house intact.
My entire FC would need to be forced to transfer. We've been on Gilgamesh since ARR launch and everyone's made friends outside of the FC... so not many people are eager to leave.
I don't mind the idea of transferring off Gilga, but I'm not going to leave my guild that I've been in for 7~ years (we came from SWTOR) plus I'd miss my other friends. It's a bit much to ask me to give up all of that to ease overpopulation by one person.
Guaranteed Housing and the ability to take all my gil with me instead of just a portion of it.
Jesus. Well, it looks like the issue isn't going away unless SE hires some magicians. :P
