Just because you have stats (which basically improve automatically over time) and you have skills (you don't have even control over in regards to choices) and just because a role is named in some way, doesn't mean that a concept of other games with those apply here.
Does my medic in X-Com complain that he mostly does damage and only has about 2-3 actions to heal per mission? (There are stats and gear in that game as well, so this is kinda rpg'ish, too, right?)
It all comes down to: This is an action-oriented multiplayer video game.
People expect other ones (at a certain point) to use all of their abilites to achieve something like 90%+ time of you pressing useful buttons.
There is no "I'm here to do this and not that", it's a video game and some people expect that in video games you just do the best a specific job can do. No "I don't wanna" or "But I thought it will be like".
Just Video games as they were since they went online. Adjust or switch job. And FF14 has been that way for more than 4 years now.
