The DF as a whole has been needing a complete systemic overhaul anyway. Resorting to penalties because they, our mighty devs, can't come up with ways to let players manually bring in replacements mid-dungeon is one of the lamest things in this game.

Maybe they could give us 1-2 dungeons/trials per expansion to simply lock out from our roulette it will lower the amount of immediate leaving at the beginning. If they wanted to get vindictive they could have the system make note of someone leaving immediately and on the next roulette attempt they get put right back in there until they finish the run, this includes kicks. I can understand the frustration, but some people are just going to eat the penalty regardless if it's something they really don't enjoy.
I don't really check the official forums much anymore, but no matter how much time has passed, whenever I check back people are still complaining about mentors.
Nobody mentions bad mentors in game, nobody mentions bad mentors on Reddit, nobody does on twitter or any of the facebook communities I'm in, but here in these forums people can't shut up about them. It's fascinating, really.
This has been a problem since we have roulettes - mentor or not people will leave when they get a dungeon they dont like; healers and tanks probably even more likely too because they'll get their insta-queue again. Please dont pretend that this a mentor-issue or that the problem lies within the mentor-system (as good or bad that might be in general) when the "problem" here is simply that of roulettes and people not wanting to deal with the cards they've been dealt. This constant mentor blaming is slowly becoming nothing more than a meme...
The problem that need to be adressed here is not mentors leaving (roulette)-duties but people leaving them.
A solution could be the loss of the roulette-bonus for that day if you leave the dungeon before the timer runs out or the duty is completed (on top of the penalty).
But honestly: Is this really such a frequent problem that it would need adressing? I'm asking because I cant recall the last time someone left right at the start of a duty because "Oh no, not this dungeon again!"
I'm not saying its not happening at all - and ofc it sucks if it just happend to you, but if out of 100 runs 99 go fine (or at least without this happening) and one doesnt, does that really mean that something needs to be fixed?
If they land in a dungeon they don't want to do, you can't force them to stay.
How can they force the player to do a dungeon they don't want to do? are you sure you thought your thread through?
Nothing can force a player to do content they do not want to do. I though that would be obvious.
There is a few dungeons I auto leave as well because they aren't worth my time, I would rather crafter or gather and wait for my penalty to clear.
I could consider...
If someone queues into mentor roulette not allowing them to leave, or vastly increase the penalty for leaving, perhaps even applying a penalty if they are kicked. (Though I see possible problems with that...)
But, when queuing up for the mentor roulette, there is a Pop up confirmation stating what is expected of them, and reaffirming these increased penalties and restrictions...
It happens enough I think SE should make some sort of "contract" laying out expectations regarding mentor behavior in genreral and enforcing them. Although, in my personal experience it seems to happen in trials much more frequently. Most parties are decent parties, but then you can always get streaks of bad manner players.
I'd rather they leave and take the penalty than fact disconnect and so that they'd get kicked without penalty.
