Difference in playstyles mostly.
Person A and Person B both join the game at launch but take different paths after joining.
Person A is hardcore, was Omni-50 during 2.x and has been Omni-60 since 3.0/3.1. Has gained everything from the GS, has multiple zodiac and anima weapons, has the minions, the mounts, a house, etc. For them, they could feel the game is kinda stale. They have been doing the same thing for some time now. They have few progression paths open to them, and they all have weekly lockouts which retard their progression towards their goals. After Wednesday, they have nothing of personal value to work towards. They are more likely to say the game is boring and needs work.
Player B is less hardcore. They may have attained 50 on one (1) or a few jobs in 2.x and have zero (0) jobs at 60 or a few. They have jobs to level, they could go do stuff in the GS towards the turtle or fenrir or the dances, etc. They could go and do quests, basically, all or most progression paths are currently open to them. They are more likely to say the game is great as it is.
It is simply a matter of perspective based upon your own personal needs/wants and the ability of the game to satisfy them.
Well said. One thing that makes a good strength and weakness of FFXIV is that it has widespread content that appeals to a wide variety of players.
For example, when I started, I LOVED the class to job system. I really liked that it forced you to play other classes and learn them a little bit to unlock jobs. It resulted in my getting most of the jobs to 50 as I tried each out. I loved that it gave a spec feel to the classes, most notably from Arcanist to SCH/SMN. I thought this was a great design and was anxiously waiting for them to make varied job paths for other classes (i.e. GLD to a DPS class please!). Then came the announcement that they were abandoning classes all together, and all new jobs would be released as jobs. This was highly disappointing for me, and not at all what I was expecting. However, a great many players agreed with this direction. Since that time, the path progression of classes to be unique, have specs etc has ventured further and further away from what originally drew me to this game.
While the game itself is quite good, it's hard to have a direction given that appeases everyone. With having content that is so widespread in target audiences, it's virtually impossible to add content or take direction that doesn't clash with one's playstyles.
Glad people appreciated it :) I had some fun, but now back to srs bznz.
What I miss the most is the ability to have different races that all share the same Bank and items I would love to have a Miqo'te Paladin and a Roegadyn War along with my Hyur Bard and all of them be sharing everything. But to have them all be so "separated" just does not make sense so I have been forced to have a multi job Hyur and that is it.
In other Mmo's chars could share resources, currency and even Gear and weps this just seems so one dimensional.
Listen, YoshiP has great ideas, the best ideas. I guarantee it. There are a lot of people who say, look, Eorzea has problems. We see those problems, and we're gonna work together to make sure the problems --the hunts, the tomestones, the problems. I, we're gonna fix them. We have the best people. This expansion is gonna be YUUUUGE.
More overworld and content in it. NM's that drop gear. Doesnt have to be insane gear or op gear, just unique gear for even glamor or mid level stuff. Or hell, OP mid level gear...because even if it's op, it'll still be outdated in 5 levels, which is what, an hour of someones time?
Redoing gear. iLvl has become insane. Its now 4 times our level. Bring it back down, rework it (as they should with every 1.0 patch) and give meaning to gear again. Put unique stats in there. +Cure, +Regen, +auto attack, ect. Doesnt have to break the game, but at least give the players illusions of more options (like haha...remember putting stats on your character each level like you had options?)
