Do jobs FEEL right to you? theme vs playstyle

I never could get over mnk and the hp issue, partially due to playing 6-7 years as an ff11 asuran fisting osoded taru-punching beast...like growing up watching Pamela Anderson bouncing around in a red swimsuit and later having to settle for an intelligent woman in glasses and a business suit (may work for you..im just saying >_>)

Mch-considering how fun brd USED to be, running around in boss fights/ instances pewpewing yer heart out, thought mch was gonna be even better..with GUNS. I was thinking dual pistols and bazooka launchers w/2 hands..rail and gattling guns. Instead..we get 1-handed peashooters.ZzZzzZzZZZz

SMN and BRD are a disgrace.

DRK is... okay. I guess. As long as I think of it within the confines of this game.

I feel like the rest are good.

Based on the class types I play the most in other games:

Paladin definitely doesn't really have the same "class fantasy" that I've played in other games. It definitely doesn't feel like a Holy knight/Crusader type. I don't even really know what to define it as even though I understand the lore behind it.

Dark Knight on the other hand definitely works in my opinion in how they worked within the lore. I'm not a big fan of the MP management thing though but I've learned to work with it.

I do not like the Archer -> Bard thing. My preference for an Archer is the Ranger type, an adept marksman that hunts his prey sort of thing. I feel it was a missed opportunity.

Dragoon works pretty well, I definitely enjoy the emphasis on the "dragon" part of the "dragon knight" theme.

White Mage doesn't really fit my taste either. But I always tended to associate "white mage" with "priest" and with the more... I guess pagan sort of beliefs that the Gridanians have, it doesn't really work.

Machinist works well to me. The story especially of new vs old when it comes to the military and the transition from swords to guns? I think the storyline captured that point of view really well.

Astrologian, I adore the time/space magic themes of the class. Big thumbs up on that.

Monk works.

Ninja/Rogue are kind of awkward with their go to attacks. It's sort of awkward to me.

Summoner I strongly dislike but I won't go in to it again.

Black Mage I don't like either. The whole fire and ice thing feels limiting to a class that traditionally used (arguably) the widest variety of offensive magic in the whole series.

Honestly... no.

I play a SMN, who hands out bad colds and yells at Garuda for being stupid (Wont follow commands when she is too far from the enemy).
I play a WHM who does a lot of damage dealing and lacks supportive spells like Haste.

Neither of these seem 'right' to me.

For summoner I can't imagine them introducing any more dots in 4.0. Surely they'll give us new pet actions.. maybe. Hopefully. I hope the class feels more like a summoner of things at least.

Nin I am both happy and disappointed with. I loved the rogue questline, but everything went off the rails with Nin. There needs to be more stealth skills, something to put you into hide mid-battle that you can chain into trick attack or a new debuff. And that teleport skill is still useless outside of PVP.

BLM.. is proving to be a pain for me. All this micro managing when I should just be blowing stuff up. I was disappointed fire 4 wasn't an aoe, hopefully in 4.0 they give the class a new one.

i whould love it to be a healer in the endgame as whm/sch/ast and a healerteam....not one mainhealer and one...dpssomething....

DRK and MRD should have more aoe sword swipe attacks with those big weapons they have. Aero should be a piercing straight line aoe. MCH gun attachment should never have a casting bar, I don't even. BLM should have a second instacast skill for quick attacks like scathe but on a different time thing so it can be used right after and repeatedly. Summoners and Scholars, I dunno, more pets and give them a skill to quick change pets, not like swiftcast but combo procs. All I could think of at the moment :/

This is only because they've abandoned summons this expansion and focused on Dreadwyrm Trance. They'd have to retcon the 52-60 questline to make the job fit its theme better. Which I wouldn't be opposed to.

One thing WoW has tried to do with Demon Hunters is that certain skills that involve you moving around increase your dodge rate to 100% while the animation is active. I'd think SE might wanna try that with DRG, though I'm sure the reason they haven't is because they fear DRGs would use jumps defensively to cheese mechanics.

Openers from stealth, yes (going into combat should not remove you from stealth). Being able to use stealth in combat, no, as it would undermine the purpose of Suiton.

The name is what's throwing you off. Keep in mind that in the JP version the job is called Knight.

The split would have happened if SE had gone forward with each class having two jobs branch from it.

This being said, I'll point to Leliana from Dragon Age and Kana from Pillars of Eternity if you want examples of ranger/bard hybrids, the former using a bow (and daggers) and the latter using a shotgun. Yes, a bard that used a shotgun.

Personally, they focus too much on gunplay and not enough on machines. MCH should have more mechanical-related abilities, be it temporary minions that they can activate to skills that involve gadgets and machines.

BLM has the same three spell lines it has had in pretty much every FF game with the exception of FFXI. Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder.

While I understand the reasoning behind not having huge summons that destroy the battlefield, I do not understand why we don't have more summons and are constantly changing our summons.

I think a better system would have one swapping between summons constantly - reduce MP/cast time on summons and grant more reasons to use alternate summons.

I personally wanted a bunch of temporary summons, rather than ruin you just summon garuda nehind you windblade-ing, rather than miasma AoE DoT, summoon titan in the midst of the enemy group who keeps stomping while youre channeling him. if you move or the channel finishes, titan disperses into the aether and you gotta wait til you can summon him again. and generallly just each of their attacks should be primal themed imo

This is my problem. Everything is far too interchangeable. It really kills jobs identities because everything is the same.

If I'm a scholar. It makes absolutely no difference if my groups tank is a warrior a dark or a paladin. I don't have to adopt my tactics for one tank or the other cos they're all exactly the same. That tank buster hits for 20k damage. Hits a warrior for 20k hits a paladin for 20k hits a dark for 20k there is no difference.

If I'm a paladin it makes no difference when there my healer is a white mage or a scholar or astrologian. It doesn't change how I tank.

And it's the same for dps roles. It really doesn't matter if the melee in your group is a monk ninja or dragoon it makes no real difference.

all of this really kills jobs identity. and makes everything feel the same.
