This is just nitpicking...
I've always heard DPS in the MMO's I've played.
Honestly, I prefer it, because it implies something very important: your job is not just to do damage, it is to do as much damage as you can, as quickly as you can. THIS POINT SEEMS TO ELUDE PEOPLE IN DF for some reason.
DD also used to mean Direct Damage (the opposite of DoT, Damage over Time) in various games, so people used to that will think DD meaning any dps class/job rather confusing
While I realize it will not change, that WoW has ingrained it far too thoroughly into Western consciousness, I agree completely.
"I am a DD!" - sounds good.
"I am a Damage Dealer!" - sounds good.
"I am a DPS!" - sounds good.
"I am a Damage Per Second!" - uh, no.
It's a bit like how to tell whether you should be using "it's" or "its".
Whenever you use "it's" in a sentence, sound it out to yourself, expand "it's" to "it is". If the sentence still makes sense, you're using it correctly. If not, you're not.
"It's a beautiful day today!" -> "It is a beautiful day today!" - Sounds good!
"A cloud passed by, and I'm in it's shadow." -> "A cloud passed by, and I'm in it is shadow." - Nope!
Let's form a Damage Dealers' Rights movement and protest. It must be great to have this term corrected in the game and on the forums.
