[New Egis] Are we ever gonna get new ones?

If you drop aethertrail you're stuck casting Ruin over and over until aether flow is back up. That's a pretty hefty penalty.

Anyway back on point, there is no need for another egi.

Ifrit is your basic pet, you can keep him on sic and he does very good damage output on his own while you learn your rotations.

Garuda is the advanced pet, you need to keep her on obey for contagion and this is the pet you use in endgame content.

Titan is your solo pet.

What would other pets bring to the table that you don't already have?

That's a bit like saying: " we have all DPS healers and tanks what would other class bring to the table that you don't already have?"

Don't get me wrong I get your point but if we have that mentally then we wouldn't have much added on in this game.

Tbh I think the new Egis will bring variations and a REAL feel of what a summoner class really is. Maybe having Shiva as an Egi making the floor covered in ice for 15secs could give you a chance to make more damage over time? Maybe? I'm not sure tbh but surely the creators can find ways of making Egis and useful.

They should just remove all weapon skills from the game. All they do is provide more DPS. Our auto attacks already do that. BOOOOORING.

We would be better served with Ifrit and Garuda both being more situationally useful. As it stands at the moment Garuda is used for 99% of content purely because of Contagion. Contagion needs to be made into a base SMN job skill and Ifrit and Ruda need to be balanced around one being AoE focused and the other being single target focused. This would have SMNs much more likely to actively switch between the pets. I do agree though that there is very little they could do with any further pets without them just feeling like new flavours of the existing ones, which is precisely what the egi-glamours are.

That's very droll but not what I said. I asked what tools a new egi would bring to the table. Garuda already works perfectly with the current play style. You use it's ability to extend the time of your boosted dots and add constant dps from a distance.

You use Ifrit, in my opinion, when you are still learning the job since you can just sic him on auto attack and he does fine on his own. And Titan, as mentioned before, is for solo play.

To use your example of weaponskills, let's say they randomly add a new weaponskill for DRG. What would it do? Where would it go in the rotation? More to the point, does DRG even need a new weaponskill?

If they add a new egi it would either have to be better than Garuda in some way otherwise no one will use it, and it would be a massive waste of time and resources on the development side. Currently, we just do not need another egi. I think this is why they are going the route of egi glamours, since a brand new skillset would mean they have to rebalance etc. which would be a massive ballache (and frankly I don't want to have to learn a new rotation this far into the patch...)

If they do add a new egi, I would assume it would be part of the 4.0 rotation. So a few new skills to work with its unique abilities that set it apart from the previous pets. As for now, at the end of 3.3, the job works perfectly fine as is. Glamours that change our current egi's appearance is fine by me.

We are talking within the context of a job here, not the game itself. Otherwise where does it end? Why be any other race when you can be lalafell? Why play other video games when you have Tetris? Why eat other food when you have cheeseburgers?

You know, I've been playing around with Pet swaps. For example, in A5S during the bird phase I swiftcast summon Ifrit since in theory he should be doing more damage while the boss is stationary than Garuda would and you aren't doing any damage yourself. Unfortunately I play on ps4 so have no way of telling if that has better dps output. Still, it looks pretty cool. Let me know if you can think of any other situations like that.

It wasn't an in-depth live letter, just an introduction to the coming patch with an overview of new content. I wouldn't take the omission of anything in the stream to mean it wasn't going to be in the patch. There'll be more details on coming features and content before the patch drops so they still have a chance to reveal the system then.

I'm sure they would've told us by now whether or not they were delayed again

I don't know about A5S specifically but I do know that there are indeed times when Ifrit is ever so slightly better than Garuda. Those occasions are rare, however, and it's never entirely clear when Ifrit is superior without someone doing some number crunching. That's a problem IMO and testament to how poorly Ifrit and Garuda's skillsets differentiate them. Yoshi has spoken about them using 4.0 to distinguish the jobs a bit more again and give them back their unique job flavour; I'm personally hoping that in SMN's case that entails an overhaul of the pets.

As for other situational uses of pets, I can't think of any others that would fit within the game's current combat dynamics. Previous MMOs have had pets dedicated to crowd control, buffing, debuffing, healing, suicide bombing, scouting, sacrificing, etc. as well as pets dedicated to exploiting specific enemy weaknesses. Unfortunately FFXIV's combat is extremely simplistic; we don't have enemy weaknesses, crowd control is almost non-existent outside of occasional stuns used for interrupts, debuffing is limited to small changes in enemy damage output or damage taken... There's just nothing else that could work within the scope of the game.
