Luminous Fibers

So you want Airship ventures to bring back limited progression tier items? I'm all for that, 2 major patches after they get introduced. That would be 3.55 or 4.0 for glass/luminous fibers.

If you want to make gil off airships, you've missed the boat, catch the next one. They will no doubt add another exclusive mount/minion/glamour to airship ventures, make you gil off that.

I absolutely agree with you but when many players didn't get the instant gratification of airships and actually had to figure a lot out and do a lot of work, many people bailed. Just like how I bail on ALL THE RELIC stuff even though each time I think i am going to do it this patch....no this patch...well maybe oh wait NEW RELIC I WILL DO IT...no no still not doing current relic lol! Also, it is content I enjoy so I maintain the airships to my benefit but also because I see the long haul good of having it done.

I do like what Stouter Taru said about having them maybe in later later patches, that makes sense to me but I don't think it will happen.

Quite a few of the ingredients are from unspoiled nodes, so are very limited in how many can farm a day. Some of the ingredients are only obtainable from actual airship voyages so takes even longer. Total cost in GC seals for the non-farm-able ingredients in that list...375,300 GC seals. Total cost to buy from MB instead of crafting? 15-16 million gil.

Based on that list, you're looking at the Odyssey-class components? Most likely you don't actually need to craft all of them, and you certainly can't equip them all to the same ship (Enterprise is the highest-level class for which you can equip the full set). Somewhere in this forum is an "Airship Guide" thread, within, you can find a link to a spreadsheet with a ship builder. I'd recommend you use that to plan out how you're going to have your ships configured at endgame so you don't end up making a lot of unnecessary parts.

Also the gathering isn't as bad as you might think - one of my part batches needed 1386 cobalt ore. I just went out to northern Thanalan and, over the course of about two hours, gathered the whole lot myself. It was surprisingly fast, especially if you have friends to talk to as a distraction. For the unspoiled nodes, set an alarm so you know when they're coming up and just keep hitting them. The materials add up surprisingly quickly.

And you can save a shedload of money this way. I've spent a total of about 5-6 million on my airship project (mostly on coke and other seal-acquired materials) and I have all the parts for my entire lv.50 fleet made, plus complete Bronco and Invincible sets for levelling.

I have crafted several of the odyssey components bc they are what i use for aft and fore so I can get more bang for my buck with different builds with my lvl 50 ships so I can slack in the hull and slower rigging. Odyssey parts for me are the most useful and I haven't used all the same parts for one ship in ages. You need enough to play around with different builds dependig how many sectors you hope to reach.

Oh I agree, the Odyssey parts are good. I have an Odyssey-class forecastle and three Odyssey-class aftcastles myself. The point I was making is that you may not need all the Odyssey parts (in my case I have no use for the hull or rigging).
That spreadsheet I mentioned also includes a trip planner that will tell you exactly how much range you need for your desired route and provides an estimate of how long it will take. I was simply suggesting that a lot of time and resources could be saved by playing around with builds in the simulator rather than actually making the parts in-game.

There's just no point in continuing this further. It's like tilting at windmills. There's more than enough comes from airships without them getting every last rare material in the game. You just need to check your first post to see how popular the idea is.

Does not matter to me how popular my first post is. SE may or may not take on board anything I said in this thread but I am still glad I said it and I still want such changes (duplication's drastically reduced and replaced with alternative unique items, the DoH/DoL T5's and Luminous Fibers or even Glass Fibers were just some suggestions towards that end).

I never made this thread for the sole purpose of attracting 'likes', I made it to express my desire for something I want and people are free to agree or disagree to their hearts content. Even if every single person in this world did not agree with me it wouldn't change my desire for it and I have the right to express that desire via making this thread. Maybe I am chasing rainbows with no pot of gold at the end but that's my choice to do so regardless of whether you think I am wasting my time or not. It's my time to spend or potentially waste and I will spend it how I like.
