By combos, I assume you mean Skill Chains. And that doesn't help the spam problem...it's going to make it even worse unless they change the way tp builds up. I LOVE SCs from XI, but if they were as common as SCs in XIV will be w/ how fast tp is built, they would get really old, really fast.
And the biggest problem with spam is this: It means that we can't ever have any "godly" attks, b/c it's too easy to perform them. SE had no problem with well-geared DDs doing 4k damage between them and one other DD b/c it wasn't something they could do every 5 seconds. With tp building up the way it does, now, we'll never see dmg like that again.
Wait hold on a second. You realize you could skill chain very quickly in XI right? Also in FFXIV you can stack buffs to do more damage, meaning that (assuming it is anything like BR) a buff stacked combo would be very high damage, and is also something that can only be done once in a period of time.
Add in the fact that combos require special positioning to pull off (according to Yoshida's interviews), and I don't think you have much of a point.
The speed of the attacks are all "relative," Murugan...Yes, SCs could be pulled off very often in XI, but not nearly as quickly as they could be in XIV. I don't think anyone other than a SAM could SE w/ themselves very effectively, and even they could only do it every 60 sec or so. With Keen Flurry, ANY DD can SC w/ himself, in a VERY short period of time, constantly...THAT is what I mean by "fast."
What are the precentages for slotting forbidden materia?
It varies, but I've heard it's something like: 25% for the 2nd slot and something like 4% for the 3rd slot....and if you bust, you lose EVERYTHING. So, all the hardwork and time you put into getting that gear: farming the mats to get the hq version, farming for hours to buy the materia you wanted to attach to it, and trying to get it attached, finally was all for NOTHING. Exactly why I want some sort of "compromise" w/ U/U gear, to offset some of this stupid crap. It's bad enough that most craftable gear is better than all the dropped gear (Faction Drops, Ifrit Wpns, Raid Gear, etc.). Now, to make things worse, HQ gear is going to become obselete, almost, b/c it's not worth the risk to push for forbidden materia.
It actually depends on the total value of the materia. For example, a 12 str and 12 str (both tier 3) will have a higher chance of success than a 12 str and 13 str. Similarly, pushing one up to tier 4 lowers the chance further.
Middle of the road tier 3 + tier 3 is around 25%. When I tried to 17 vit + 12 vit body it was 18% (and failed). Apparently, better crafting gear also raises the chances. I'm not a crafter so I haven't really played around with it at all.
No, actually, it isn't...I see that I have to be EXTREMELY specific, since no one seems to have any imagination. When I said, constantly, I meant DDs in the ENTIRE pt will be doing SCs constantly....not just w/ themselves, "constantly." We all have keen flurry; we all build tp at considerably faster rates than in XI; and we all spam ws like a sam...it's retarded.
