I make friends online, none of my few IRL friends would touch this game. :|
I don't see that on my server, but my SO plays WoW and lord jesus it is all that and more on trade chat. That's it. This game is like paradise from that.

I've tried. So far I've only succeeded with one RL friend.
My first thought when reading that was "Oh look, Barrens chat!"Quote:

Aw. I thought this was the whodini topic.
Yes, though it cannot be stressed enough that having friends makes it so much easier. Remember, an MMORPG relies on having a lot of people playing and progressing together. By yourself, it's just a single player game with a subscription for ongoing development. With others, you can attempt more and succeed. You also work with friends on things you may have done, but they need help with. FFXIV is very good at encouraging you to group up for everything from FATEs to raids. If it's not a duty, you're almost certainly better off running the content with people, particularly on a class at your level (since you can hotswap them).
Short form is, you can have fun without friends, but make them and enjoy their company. The entire idea of an MMORPG is that playing is better with friends, and an MMORPG is almost precisely as good as the friendliest people playing it. The best MMORPG in the world would be utter garbage if the community is garbage.
I agree with the majority.
You can play and enjoy alone, but friends make it more fun.
I don't have any friends I know in person who play. I have a bunch of in game friends though. (I hate calling them not real life friends, truth be told some of my game friends are better friends to me than ones I have met in person. So they are real life friends too imo.) ^-^
I have much more fun joking and chatting with my FC mates than when I play solo if none are online. Love a bit of banter during roulettes/raids.
It varies by game. I never saw much of those kinds of things in RIFT. WoW and TERA sure, but isn't this game considered by many to have a better community than most MMOs? Also, at least in WoW, people can get temp bans if they tell others to do bodily harm (if they're reported, of course). Blizzard isn't a fan of that.
hello guys and thanks for taking the time to reply. well right now im 56 and yes its kinda hard finding a friend but i think its mostly because maybe im still leveling? i have friends in lc and i talk with them but yeah i cant do much. maybe ill make more at level cap who knows. i really like to raid and will try to make time for it
Well I don't have friends in this game but even so.. What's the big deal? The fun part about the game is meeting people and doing stuff together and enjoying the progress. Do they have to be friends? I just go with whoever is online. From these random people you meet you end making some antiquances(aka friend list) with who you play more often / raid together and that's it ^^. The best part about online games is.. It's much more challenging due to player coordination and never gets borring due to the high amount of hilarious people out there. Resuming, it's fun.
Then one day you quit the game and repeat the cycle with something else :D. That's also why I don't bother getting attached to anyone ingame. It's just a game ;). Don't take it seriously.
