I'd be fine with this.

I'd agree with it, with it being Void I would assume it would refill fairly fast.
If half or more of your group want to leave, does it really matter if they leave duty or vote abandon? At that point, the chances of your group refilling at all, much less quicker than it would be to requeue and get back to where you were, are minimal, at best. Most people going into an 8 or 24 man and seeing half or more of the players missing are just going to immediately leave, writing it off and preferring to just queue fresh, rather than wait.
Either way the duty is effectively dead, so who cares how it happens?
I can relate to Op, this days people have extremely low tolerance to failure, a single wipe and a guy starts a vote abandon, once in Garuda EX with like 5 new players, we wiped and a vote abandom popped up. I mean, if you feel that superior that everybody else sucks, go ahead and leave, let the player who wants things done stay and try harder.
This makes no sense. As long as your party isn't full there is NO penalty for leaving. In this case the OP's group had lost 5 people already so the abandon was completely pointless since anyone else that wanted to leave could do so with no penalty.
IMO a vote abandon should only be possible to initiate in a FULL group. Anything less than that and it offers no real use for those that want to leave whilst those that want to stay are unfairly removed from the instance.
I really hate when Void Ark takes me 20+ minutes to get in, then when I get joined in progress, and they are on Chuchu, there's a vote to abandon...
The reasons you give in your argument make no sense in the context of the OP's situation though. Disagreeing with their suggestion does not oblige you to insult them as selfish when realistically nothing was holding those players in the instance.
I fully agree that we need the vote abandon feature. Like the votekick it was added out of necessity due to trolls, leechers and otherwise abusive players needing to be dealt with somehow. In THIS case, however, there was genuinely no reason for the vote abandon to be used.
And so the XIV feature cycle continues...
Community: We want a feature to help with the problem of people leaving content before it's finished!
Devs: Okay, here's a penalty for anyone who leaves a duty before is completed.
Community: Now we're stuck until time runs out on a fight because we can't beat it but we can't leave due to the penalty!
Devs: Okay, here's an option for the group to vote to abandon the content after a certain amount of time has passed.
Community: Now people don't finish dungeons and just vote abandon when they get their stuff!
Devs: ...
It's really rather vicious. We ask for something to curb what people thing is "abusive" behavior, the devs give us something, that gets abused in some other way and we complain again... No matter what the devs do, someone will figure a way to abuse the system to their benefit workout caring about anyone else and others still will use them to troll.
