None of the jobs in Heavensward were particularly tied to Ishgard. The Astrologians came from Sharlayan, guns are much more common is Limsa and the Machinists could have fit there no problem,

and the Dark Knights could have conceivably ended up at any city state watching refugees be killed by any corrupt set of guards to be honest.

I wouldn't mind the 1 tank, 1 dps, 1 healer setup to be honest. I'd be quite happy with Samurai tank, Red mage melee DPS and Dancer or Chemist healer.
I would hope that they play differently to the existing jobs though.

They never even said 3 was impossible to do, only that it was a lot of work and the comments came while they were also referring to releasing ninja in 2.4 so the context is a bit muddled on if they were referring to technically developing 4 jobs at once or not. Even then his comments were not definitive saying they'd never release 3 jobs during an expansion, only that they wouldn't do a mid-cycle job release again like ninja.

Then during the 14 hour broadcast he supposedly almost gave away the number of jobs to be added in 4.0 and it had to do with the moonfire faire (3 rangers = 3 new jobs likely). So even If it's hard I believe they would be adamant to keep the quality up and release 3 new jobs, one for each role at 4.0.

I'll bet money that it's not just one job. That would be more than a bit pathetic tbh.

Considering there is no Doma anymore and it's survivors were brought to Eorzea by Yugiri it actually makes more sense for us to learn the job in Eorzea than in the pile of rubble that is Doma. That's if samurai is specifically Doman and not simply Othardian. Even still, there is little reason for us to travel so far away anytime soon, or at all. They've shown no intent on making some asian themed expansion especially since one of their reasons for not going with Samurai for Heavensward was because it would have been another japanese themed job so soon after ninja, this tells me they have little interest in making lots of content themed on japanese motifs.

Nothing says SAM will be rooted in Ala Mhigo. In fact, if SE keeps their promise of not keep the new jobs behind the expansion's walls, it's reasonable to think of something like a Doman refugee in Mor Dhona strugging to keep the Samurai's school of combat alive.

I mean, Astrologian is a Sharlayan job, after all.

Who says Samurai has to be from Ala Mhigo? And the Ishgard jobs fit well enough because SE made them so. Before heavensward Machinists would have made zero sense coming from Ishgard. To use your example of "old English hyur putting on lamellar and whipping out katanas" how did "old English knightly and religious medieval elezen putting on gadgets and whipping out guns and robots" make sense? It only made sense because SE wrote them into the story in a believable way. On top of that one of the main characters for that job story to teach machinists how to shoot was a 1.0 character from Limsa lominsa.

Astrologian's are also Sharlayans and their job story had very little to do with Ishgard and everything to do with Sharlayans and their politics.

Dark Knight is the only one that has some semblance of fitting into Ishgard's society naturally and even that was severely underplayed to the point it could have been from anywhere.

Even with all that said, it's also unlikely we will even start in Ala Mhigo at the beginning of 4.0 and will more likely be fighting our way to reclaiming it during the 4.0 story which means any new jobs wouldn't be tied to the city state anyways. As such there's plenty of room to write in a displaced Samurai trainer from Doma who teaches our adventurers his ways to fight back against the same empire that took his home. While their home is gone, the assistance in helping another group of people who suffered under the same enemy is a noble one and a likely story thread.

I want to add that the notion that any job has to be tied to city states we have access to is an absurd one as well. The majority of our jobs have nothing to do with any of the city states as it is, and we have had plenty from cities we didn't or don't have access to.

Warriors are from the far north of eorzea, summoner is an ancient allagan form of magic, scholars are from nym, black mages have roots in mhach, ninjas are from the far east/doma-ish. Monks are from Ala mhigo of which we have no access to atm, dragoons are from Ishgard of which we were able to become long before we ever stepped foot in ishgard.

That leaves only 3 jobs that have any real ties to their city states: Paladin, White Mage, and Bard.

So I'll never understand when people think there needs to be some kind of stipulation that these jobs be tied specifically to some arbitrary city state when the point of them is to have varied roots and different stories.

The notion of jobs being tied to cities comes from classes being heavily rooted in the lore of their respective home cities.

The three new jobs in HW did give us some background on Ishgardian culture, even if not quite as heavily as ARR classes do.

That's the root of the expectation.

Exactly. And with only two jobs tied to Othard (ninja and samurai) i would love to keep at least one till we get there. But Shippuu really seems to hate the idea of going to Othard.
On the off chance we do get Samurai now I think DPS is the most likely choice. Red Mage, Samurai and Dancer top every new job wish list and Yoshida definitely knows this. So many people assume that it will be Dancer as a healers, Red Mage as a DPS, and Samurai as a tank.

But I think we will be in for a surprise again. With Heawensward we wwere sure that the gun wielding class would be a healer as we got ninja as a DPS in 2.4 so Astrologian came out of the blue.
What I think is that Red Mage would be the healer. Sounds strange, but think about it. RM was always in a sort of support role and healing people with white magic is one of the things it is good at. RM would be the anti bard. Two support classes ending up as a ranged dps and a melee healer respectively. The DPS role filled by the samurai instead, to finally give us a sword wielding DPS class.
And dancer, a tank. Yes, a tank. It is really hard to come up with new and interesting ways to tank to make it different from the previous ones. What to do with enemy damage. Well how about a tank that dodges damage? You draw attention with your dance and spin and jump away from incoming blows.

honestly, i prefer after we do have complete access to eorzea, that we take direction for the empire continent more than orthard.
