I do wish they would give more depth to the Primals, as they are in 2.x and beyond has been very 1 dimensional, which is sad as important as they are to the game.
But honestly, this dev team seems more concerned about making things pretty.

We can't have a nice storyline like that cause most the MMO players today don't care about it and just want to rush though it to get to end game stuff.
I personally loved 1.x, and that is not rose colored glasses, I truly did (well minus the forced speed runs for a .5% chance a piece of darklight, even 1.x had horrible rng elements). I was online until the servers went down the night Dalamud fell. Everything was still pretty but I felt the story, which is why I have become such a diehard FF fan since I was a kid, was wonderful. Granted there were a lot of bad elements and the game was indeed broken. But there was more than names and fundamental things like races they could have kept. This dev team doesn't feel to innovative or creative in either story, content or gameplay. They seem to have very limiting boundaries they set for themselves that are, sadly, not to be breached. The story is good, I do believe that, but they watered it down drastically along with the rest of the fundamentals of gameplay.
We'd have cool scenes like that one, but dreamcast limitations (or was it TI-85) and all that! j/k Um, iono, there were lots of cool cutscenes in 1.0 that I recall. Like even the main story quest had all kinds of different cutscenes. The whole meeting hydelyn when you start the story I think is new. I'm not sure if/when you meet her in the 1.0 story. The feel was different too, like, you were more the bystander than the great hero of legend. It was kind of like those old samurai movies where the poor villager has to find a outsider/stranger with some skill to come help the town in peril since they are all farmers and don't know how to fight, etc. Now we are fricken supar-heroz of teh light! yay?
Those cut scenes are marvelous. The grace and agility of Fahlminn, the Padjal guiding the adventurer through the forest. I gained a whole new respect for the giant tree creatures after seeing them make those wolves into a snack. You really did feel like the world was a dangerous place, which (though I never played 1.0) would make being the Warrior of Light that much more important. The way I understand it, admitting failure is kind of a dishonorable thing for Japan. Where is this producer now?
Haha! Really! That's insane but I bet it would be fun. Charging at enemies with your pickaxe--err--I mean, "negotiating". Crafting and gathering classes are so looked down upon now (see also: Diadem). Why could we not have an instance where we're all working together? Building a giant wall to protect Foundation from dragons. Forging weapons, armor, potions for the first line of defense, etc. etc.
He "quit" aka fired with dignity.
Beyond what you have seen, the game was broken. But it was wonderful none the less for what it was and superior to ARR and HW in many ways. The old Eorzea was full of danger, just ask any of us who unlocked all the Aetheryte camps and nodes.... omg that was painful but still fun.
We kindda built a wall to keep the voidsent out of uldah in v1
