I started 2.0... I don't remember the phase or whatever.
Took over a week to get on a server because they were always locked/full. First thing I did was set up my HUD and put keybinds on my quick bars. Didn't have any skills, but I was just copying my setup from SWTOR. Lol. I was on the verge of quitting SWTOR. There was a huge hardcore raider exodus at the time (which included world first guilds) because SWTOR had really gone downhill.

I started playing in 2.1. My boyfriend had already been playing when I started, so he was there when I made my first character. He switched up my settings for me (character-based camera was awful) and explained to me, about 8 times, what all of my skills did.
He left me alone for five minutes while I was supposed to go kill things by the gates to Gridania. The first thing I did? Took off exploring and promptly got killed by something aggressive and 10 levels higher than me.
[EDIT] I also think I gave that trial character a really awful name. I think I named her Fabulouz Kitteh? I just remember thinking it was hilarious at the time. XD

I got into beta, can't remember what phase (other than the fact I got the email on April 1st of all dates). The very first thing I did after selecting control layout is redo the UI and all of the keybindings (EWRD instead of WSAD). Aside from that, I explored the emotes of male Miqo'te and quickly fell in love with them.
Although I quit shortly after release for whatever reason and didn't come back until January of this year.

Back in 1.00 I started as a Conjurer. Ran around for a while, beat up some bugs and squirrels, did some Google stuff to find out I had to be in Uldah to launch Weaver and gear up Conjurer so that's where I headed. Took Mining as well, when I got there and started obsessing with my physical bar because it would impact my character over all classes. The first month of 1.00 was a total blast.
2.00 I spent the first hour making sure I had as close a look to 1.00 as was possible. The rest of the time was spent figuring out what I had and how much of it was junk.

I started with the 1.0 launch back in 2010.
So the first thing I did was get my butt handed to me by a level 2 Tiny Rat.
Edit: I guess technically the first thing I did was the boat area tutorial thing.
But I assume we look past those mandatory things.

Started in 2.0 and the first thing I did was block a gold seller whisper. They were really really bad in capital cities at that time. You couldn't read chat cause you were getting spammed constantly.

I started playing just before World of Darkness got its loot restrictions lifted and everyone started farming it. So... patch 2.5 I think. It was quite confusing to hear all the talk about WoD after having played a game called WoD. Lol
The first things I did after gaining control of my character were rearranging my UI to resemble the one I had in WoW, and fixing the keybinds. It went pretty smoothly from there until I had to save up gil for a quest that required me to equip level 5 gear. >_<

Does this count Beta? I made the mistake of making a cat. Never again.

Look for auto walk.... this game is one of the only RPGs without 'Click on Map area' > 'Walk/run towards it' :(
