If memory serves, I joined this game in February of 2014, starting this game on the PS3. (I have since upgraded to a PS4 though) I forget what patch number it was, but it was when Myth tomes were the "in thing" at the time. (Though I didn't get that far until Soldiery tomes were the "in thing") And the sole biggest reason why I even joined despite not being big on MMO games was because a friend of mine urged me to join this game because he's a huge multiplayer fanatic looking for any way to game together.
Who also happens to be a obsessive collector/buyer of everything and will buy a videogame (and lately amiibos) on a whim if it so much as even remotely interests him. He even admits it.
The first thing I did was go where he went (Ul'dah) by picking a job that started in that zone. (Gladiator) And while I was going to explore the entire city at first for quests to get in precious EXP, said friend wasted no time in stepping outside the gates at some point and started picking fights instantly with any monster he saw. I remember my very first day on this game quite well in this regard, as I already had to save his rear from biting off more than he can chew. And I was only starting the game myself! This marked the first of MANY times I'd save him throughout the whole game.
To this day, that hasn't changed. Take my eyes off him for more than a few seconds against monsters in the open world that are merely at this level, and he'll die. Against overworld monsters. Repeatedly. (lol) The fact that this happens to him a lot is part of the reason why I remain subbed to this game regardless of it's ups and downs. (Well that, and it's fun to play the game with good friends) Well... and also the fact that I'm the main leader of my own FC, so I gotta log in every now and then just to keep that position.
