I find it kind of funny people running to the defense of the dev team, unless I read stuff wrong I don't think anyone was attacking the dev team personally but the company that employs them that being SE.
such as this quote below.

I know it's kinda mmo-community thing to always talk bad about everything and the dev team etc, but I really love the clear heart that goes into this game. It's probably my favourite thing about it to be honest, the hildibrand quests, the theme when you ride the magitek and the rising event just show how much they love making it. I hope they have a good break :)
Pretty much this. I'm glad they took a break and hoped they played volleyball in Hawaii but if work and development on the game suffers then SE has problems. No business should come to a screeching halt because employees take a week or two off. SE needs to ramp up the development team of FFXIV to go along with the incredible success the game has done.
Actually this came about because of community complaints two years ago. We don't complain because of being haters, we complain because we want positive changers that works for everyone.
I'm going to echo the sentiment in the OP... In the live letters and similar media they've always looked like they could use a vacation, they've met some important deadlines and worked hard for it, they deserve some time off. I wouldn't start worrying about the quality and consistency of the updates going downhill until it starts to become a trend. Which we haven't even had our first big update yet, and even if it's a bit delayed it still sounds like it'll be packed with new content.

Until they start acting like WoW's devs with 6-14months content gaps, and Selfies/Twitter/QOL improvements/class balancing being considered a Major Patch, I do not think we have to worry too much about that.
I honestly believe personally that this timeout is a onetime thing given that they probably have worked tirelessly for over 3 years, as it was in mid 2011 they decided to scrap the old and remake XIV into ARR and I havent heard them had vacations during that time.
They have flown all over the world promoting the game, not wasting time and money, as some people say, as well as delivered on schedule for 3 years now with not much delays at all. ;)
Welp, didn't take long for this thread to go sour. Nice try though OP.
Dear devs, I hope your vacation was as pleasant as you deserved, i.e. a lot.
I couldn't care less if it means we won't have a patch in the usual 3-months schedule. You have Old Goodberry's word that nothing bad will happen to Eorzea in the meanwhile. ;)
I am having a ton of fun in the game. Thanks for that! :)
I find myself having to agree with this and liking the post. Indeed. That is why criticism exists. It's the truth that said criticism can be used to improve a product. My own personal beef with criticism stems from the fact that most who do criticize tend to do nothing to point out what they LIKED about the game... usually. Might stem from that "If it's good, why bother talking about it?" mentality some people have.
Sadly though, I don't think there IS any way to make criticism sound nice. And for me personally, I've always seen criticism as a very odd way of saying you like the game... especially since everyone has different things they want out of a game, which of course clashes with other fans. That's just me though.
I still share the OP's sentiment though.
