Guess you just aren't as rich as you think you are. The game, 2.0, gave you around 300k worth of gil by the time you hit 50. Crafted gear on gilgamesh was around 450-500k for High quality.

But don't worry; The richer folk back then could afford it, just like the rich folk now can afford it.

And it bears repeating: Dont compare i70 with anything after 2.1+, it was release and way more time was needed until enough people leveld their crafts to be able to craft one star besides the 1% that was racing to get there.

Because you make an excellent point about the state of a 'new' system that you should really, really reflect upon.

If you re-read my post you'll see I mentioned the time required to farm the mats for the crafter hand-ins.

As I doubt a "casual" player is going to go and buy all the mats/pre-made mats off the MB (pretty expencive for a casual player).

So even the crafting side is a considerable time or gil investment for a "casual" player.

The crafts were introduced in 3.05, not 3.0, that 1% is already max lvl, the racing is over but now the high-end crafters are left twiedling our thumbs.

No they can't. For starters, they would need something to buy. Do you see anything up for sale on the mb?

This is a fair point. I had the benefit of finding mining therapeutic and having the level 58 accessory market to myself for the better part of 2 weeks. In short, I have not only an excess of goldsmith materials but more than enough gil to fill in what I need to. I'm also an alchemist, so that only makes things easier for me.

Not everyone has that advantage.

At worst, they choose not to participate. Most likely, it just means they don't cap each week.

Hardly the end of the world.

Well I have 2300mil, maybe it's not a lot compared to you? but I think it's enough to be able to comment when I think things are ridiculously gated/expencive.

The new i180 costs far more to make than it's *worth* for a slight temp upgrade, but maybe people with more gil than me will think it's worth it?

On Odin i70 gears were over 1mil when people (including myself) were making them. They did not go down as low as 450-500k until the recipes nerfs I believe.

Err, yknow 4 weeks after release tome mats were cheap because people could use their tomes after they geared up to make money.

3.0 and 2.0 can NOT be compared if you were not on a Legacy Server. 3.0 it took people to reach 5-7 days to max out all crafts due to the massive amounts of exp leves/GC tradeins gave + the items you got after the lvl 50 quests. Back in 2.0 it took me 10 days to get all crafts from 15-50 and gear them to their lvl 50 AF with gathering materials myself. Making good money and progress. Now it took me 6 days after i hit my first DoW to 60 to get everything from 50-60 and two more days to craft enough sandwiches for all Master III books.

Back at 2.0 i could make everything i needed, gear that was at a level and was useful to get HM Primals done and to speedrun AK/WP for weekly tomes. And properly melded people ripped it out of my hands to be able to do Coil

Now?

i180 law upgraded gear that only requires 2-3 days to fully equip a class. i190 dropped from Alex normal that outranks the crafted stuff heavily and i200 eso equip thats on the same level as Savage drops. And gil/time gated grind for token that people share the need for new crafting equip (go check the 1-star crafters equip and the 2-star i70 equip, youll notice a difference if you actually pay attention)

So, no - 2.0 and 3.0 can NOT be compared. And even if they would've released everything at day 1 like they did in 2.0 - you would not see a single item for a reasonable price on the MB after those 6 weeks we are in already.

It honestly just sounds like you made poor gearing choices back then. Darklight was more than sufficient to do hard mode primals, which got you your relic, which was more than sufficient to get yourself into coil and start getting i90 drops while picking up i90 vendor gear.

Your point was that crafting was so valuable to you then because it made gear you could use, as opposed to now where you can just gear up so easily in a short span of time.

Almost like it was an unnecessary luxury.
