He clearly means Spear.

Edit: Although on the topic of using Spear with LA I haven't felt the need to do that yet. I can see in certain fights where you know heavy healing will be required in a certain phase, but outside of that, it's not necessary for regular usage. When I get Spear, I use it on the following classes, depending on the situation - Paladin, Dragoon, Ninja, Bard, Summoner. They all have uses for reduced oGCDs so unless it's a fight where I'm going to be super starved for mana, I don't see a need to use it on myself when they can do more dps/better tanking with it.

With WHM and SCH i can spend the whole fight casting. But with AST i need to spend time idling due to the poor mana return . This is why i wont play AST again in serious content (if they dont get mana buffs).

Well if u spend time idling that means u don't have to ACT so it means everything it's ok xD

I don't get why people have issues with mana on astro... I dps more than I do on it with white mage and I end up with better MP management.

Rose tinted glass at its finest. Honestly, your comments are so pro-AST while refusing to acknowledge any of the issues, that I find it very hard to take you seriously anymore.

AST currently has it worse than WHM did back in 2.5. There is one single MP regen ability, they have one single MP free heal (two if you count Collective in Diurnal) and absolutely no way to buff their healing potencies in the event of an emergency. Not to mention the fact that all of their potencies are weaker than WHMs. SE obviously even acknowledged the fact that WHM often had it rough with MP and so they added another MP regen ability in the expansion.

It's also quite ridiculous to suggest AST having to purchase Mega Ethers as a suitable fix, when it's quite clear WHM nor SCH really ever needs to.

I agree with everything except the potencies comment. WHM does have bigger potencies on their heals but technically the AST's base heals are more mana efficient. What puts WHM on top is a)Regen is massively mana efficient, b)Freecure procs, and c)Divine Seal. These three used properly are what really make a WHM so mana efficient before they even need to cast Shroud. AST doesn't have any such features. :\ So we'll see how the various class and mana changes affect us. I have a lot of hope actually that the improvements will be what this class needs in a lot of ways.

Please SE please do not not fall for what some of these people are talking about. Last thing we need is astrologians to have a 90% damage reduction bubble for 3 seconds, tp and mana refresh components added to the tp/mana reduction cards and turn balance into a group wide 10% damage buff for 30 seconds. My brother solo healed floor 4 as an astrologian for a good half the fight after the white mage went down and yes he had to have mana from a bard but so would have the white mage. Astro has healed all content right now and are fine in the mana department. Benefic 2 instant cast should not be used just because its up. If you want to play an OP job then go for the scholar. Leave this job to some who enjoy actually mana meaning something and go oom from spamming helios for 1-2 minutes straight. Ive seen two astro's heal every content just fine even with 2-3 people dying without any mana issues.
