Totally off topic but I had a PS3. Its broken. First the disc drive went. I used to as a media streaming box from that point forward. Now the video output croaked. I literally threw it out my window and watched it smash on the driveway.Quote:

I have read all that before. I have kept up with the game and played it on and off throughout its life. I think its just going in the totally wrong direction. As to leve's - I never liked them but tolerated their existence. This newest change to them is game changing/breaking in my view.

even though i played ffxi on ps2 ..and i played like all day and nite ..like every day from day one till 5years later. i still kinda agree with op in the consept though, it might not be for just ps3 but in general, this game is starting to get agrovating with all the ups and downs in changes that keep making me think they fixing for the good, then fix for the worst again. being able to do 99 leves in 12.5days? ...i thought party grinds were back in play. it's been a ok maybe a player like me can enjoy this game, then it's frak i hope i'm not waisted a year of my life>< i understand the casual and solo is gonna be in game but how much and even more how little will the party and challenging stuff be in game is the questions.
not all console are gonna be casual, but i bet alot of them, ...ps3 horrible to play mmo on, my ps2 broke like 10times, my hdd broke, at the end i was using a ps2 t is hat didn't read disks anymore either lol. ...but i kept my ps2 running like all day and nite, but lol my ps3 broke playing ff13 after only 6months of owning it and barely using it to begin with. playing all day on it will be expensive >< lol. better off using the 160bucks u pay to fix them from sony and think ahead and buy a cheap mid pc. least ps2 they was fixing it for only 25bucks or even free at times for me, outside of shipping. ..16bucks then. -

That is a ridiculous statement to make. There are many console gamers that can sit and play a game all day MMO or not. I know people that play COD all day everyday.

See what I did there? I can flip that logic right around for you. The FF series has always been first and foremost a console series. FFXI was a PS2 title with a PC port. And to tell you the truth, I wish to God that SE had done the same for FFXIV. FFXI had the right idea, and I hope sometime in the near future devs start making many Console exclusive MMORPGs. I have nothing against PC players in general but I do hate the idea of having to play this game on a PC. Just drives me nuts. Not to mention that trying to satisfy both PC and Console players can be contradictary.
I personally would love a Console exclusive FF MMORPG, that would combine elements of a very strong story and presentation (like the way SWTOR is doing, great idea on their part), Heavy amounts of Dynamic PvE (like what GW2 is doing), and FFXI style Endgame for large groups and small groups. Of course I'd want the classic job class system, just fleshed out more than from FFXI with a bit more freedom like the Armoury System. No PvP, No Crafting, a static economy (can only buy consumables), a Large and expansive world to do dynamic events and quests in, triggered only OW Bosses, Mostly Instances for endgame and Main storyline, Endgame is /ragequit hard but with pretty good drop rates or a point system like what GW2 is doing, All weapons and accessories and armor are bind on pickup/dropped into personal inventory, no gear damage, mild death penalties like weakness and slowed movement/abilities, Complex game mechanics and strategy elements, but simple controls with gamepads in mind that dont require you to need 40 buttons to activate all the skills on your hotbar, think action oriented combat with 12 skills asigned to the d-pad with L2 and R2 acting as "shift". The rest of the buttons would be for movement and real-action combat like dodges and blocks and different attack patterns (high swing, low swing, etc). I really love the way Demons' Souls combat works so Id probably like something like that.
As for console players mostly playing in short amounts of time, thats where you're wrong. Us Console players want casual accessability, but alot of us want challenging content and will play for hours at a time for days in a row. So the idea is to be able to get into the game and be doing something worth the time you spend in the game, and easily logout if needs be. But if you have the time be able to spend 12 hours of your day having fun. There is a big difference between casual accessability, and casual play time. And dont confuse casual with easy, because I for one would like casual accessability but hardcore challenge. -

The first problem with the Orignial Post is that it fails to take into account that your making a casual / hardcore argument, not a console / PC argument. You're misappropriating PC with hardcore and console with casual.
The second problem is you've failed to show how the particular leve changes have effected the hardcore market. Leves are being designated primarily as solo play. Putting leves on an arbitrary timer doesn't effect their difficulty at all. I'd argue the lack of a proper reward:difficulty balance within the leve system is the primary complaint (or should be) from the hardcore audience.
There is no benefit for fighting monsters ten ranks above you. You can make monsters have a level that is more than ten levels above your own by adjusting the leve difficulty. This is a great mechanic by the way. Unfortunately, there is no added benefit. The risk/reward mechanic is shot for mobs 11 levels above your rank or higher. This is the problem with leves, and in my opinion, with battles overall. People are not positively reinforced enough to experience difficult battles, even though they are there (Level 99 Rainbow Peistes in Mor'Dhona).
The only upside to fighting mobs 11 ranks above your own would be the Ogres. I don't remember their levels off the top of my head but they do drop Ogre horns, which is a key component to Horn Glue, which is a key component to several other recipes and weapons and fetch a pretty penny at the AH due to their rarity. If you could get a farming party to go hunt Ogre's you'd be in business, but unfortunately, that's the only benefit. Well besides the thrill of the battle itself.
I really do think they should remove that 10 rank cap and include a more lenient scaling and perhaps base experience off of the highest member in the party.
Then again, maybe the drops/difficulty are incentive enough. Considering Yoshida's recent commentary on power leveling.
Anyways, I was getting off track. If you wanted to say that the PS3 killed this game you'd be much better off coming from a hardware/programming perspective rather than a casual/hardcore perspective.
