I can relate to OP. Pretty much the only ones I talk to in-game are like...3, maybe 4 people on my friend list. And even with them it's usually me who says hi first. I'm not in a FC right now, because I just felt either ignored or not being able to relate to what people were talking about too often - that said, they were chatty enough though.
Other than that, and especially in duties... Pretty much the only times there's talk are when someone screws something up and some others feel the need to insult the hell out of them. Which is sad. (Or it's French or German people talking in French or German, which is just rude, in my opinion, when they know their language is not the only one in there. Explaining things, sure, but just general chat throughout the dungeon? Yeah, rude.)
had 1 an broke it lol i chat all the time outside of dungeons even tho takes me eternity to type.. always forget when go down town cause its not highest priority of things i need XD
and i dont join df queues to run a dungeon just to chat lol chattin is what people do outside of dungeons mostly not during :P
This is definitely a thing. When I do a dungeon through DF I'll usually stay quiet outside of the initial "hi" (unless I need to explain a boss to a new guy or two), but if I see someone I know I'll talk to them through the whole thing. Never really noticed it til I reflected back just now. Gonna try and change that though, XIV usually feels pretty lonely but I guess I'm not really helping. :V
seems to me like you just need a better FC, tbh. the FC I run on balmung is crazy social, people talking and hanging out constantly, even made a ls that spans a few different FC's as a sort of chat channel for all of us to hang out in and stuff, there's quite a lot of social points in the game, you just have to find the right people, and no offense, but it sounds like you haven't yet
I has my own clan for my 3 chars, 1 Friend I know in real too and Im happy about it o_o
Don't mean to be rude, and I mean that truly, but this sounds like a you problem.
I spend every minute of my online time talking to my game friends in my FC or in the 6 linkshells I'm in, and in dungeons I /make/ conversation and people usually oblige. It's really quite nice.
I always found it strange that the people who make these kinds of threads are the kind of people who never engage anyone. If you want to converse and be social, then be social. If no one is talking in your instances, that means by association that you are also not talking...
My FC has gone sort of quiet lately, but that's regular pre-patch (or pre-expansion now, I suppose) boredom. The ones that are online are still quite chatty with me though, regardless of what we're doing at the time. In dungeons, I'm usually the guy kicking up conversation myself - when tanking, I try to make sure everyone's happy with the pacing and such, which usually gets people talking. If I notice someone doing something really good or kinda quirky, I comment on that because I want to and because, as you say, talking make dungeon runs a lot less grindy.
It's happened to me several times that I get along ridiculously well with people in low-level roulettes (because low level content is always friendlier - no expectations) and often regret that they're not on my server so we can do more stuff together. It's just about taking the initiative.
