It can be advantageous to undercut depending upon your circumstances. A player that harvests all raw materials can afford to sell much cheaper the majority of the time versus a player that purchases raw materials off the marketplace. This of course is balanced by the time lost to harvest said materials that could have been spent producing finished products to sell. I think the marketboard works very well, but it is much more heavily influenced by time as one thing the majority of players lack is patience.

Obviously if you can produce more supply faster than the demand of buyers then one strategy is to lower your price to sell more at a faster rate. Sitting on inventory always equals monetary loss if you are not selling it at the instant you produce it.

There's pretty much NEVER any good reason to get angry at people who undercut by a wide margin. If they do it once, then it's just a blip in the market history; it will sell fast, and prices will resume as they were. They may have been fools for selling so low, but by no means does the market get "tanked".

If they do it many times, then they have more stock than the current market has a demand for and so the price SHOULD go down. If you're certain that your product is worth more than they're selling for, then just wait out the storm. If you're right, his overstock will eventually sell out and prices will return to what you think is normal. If you're wrong, and the prices stay low, then the market has shifted; demand vs supply was not what you thought it was. You screwed up; own up to your mistake and price low, as the current market demands. Don't blame your competition for knowing the market better than you do.

It's the same deal if the guy is trying to "control" the market by selling cheap to force out competitors. You're the competitor in this case. LET yourself get "forced out", hold onto your product, and once the guy thinks he's in control and starts jacking prices up again, then sell. The marketboards are both like and unlike a real economy. The forces of supply and demand are in full effect, but entry into a market costs nothing. Being forced out of a market in real life has horrifying consequences due to the extreme costs involved in setting up shop. In FFXIV, though, you can join, leave, and rejoin a market quickly and easily at any time.

Honestly, the only folks worth getting mad at are the ones who MINUTELY undercut by one gil, or ten gil, or whatever. These folks are basically cheating the system; they aren't pricing cheaper in order to keep the markets competitive, because really, their goods AREN'T cheaper to any meaningful degree. They are pricing cheaper to keep their names visible on the first page of the price list.

Far as i'm concerned,it is a free market,not your market,not hers,not his,not any one persons.

If i undercut someone by a large amount(and i do quite often just to shift something fast) and they can't deal with it,that's on them.

If you feel the need to rage at a complete stranger over their pricing policy,something is very wrong with you.Chill the heck out.(I do agree with undrecutting by 1 or 2 gil being shady,i don't like that one bit,but i still wouldn't go whisper them about it,it is their choice to do so not mine)

I will change my pricing if i'm competing against a FC member or friend though,but no one else.

Only true if it's actually *selling* at 680k. If someone has listed it at that price but it's still sitting there unsold, that's an entirely different matter. Yet I've heard of people still complaining about big undercuts even then.

Think what a lot of crafters forget when it comes to this type of business sealing is that in truth the market board valuation is only showing what an item is worth from one persons perspective, so 1 crafter buys the mats and passes cost on, others get their own mats so the 2 valuations are very different. Fundamentally my personal view is that its a video game and anyone who gets bent out of shape as a result of imaginary money should get out of the house more often.

lol that's a healthy attitude but easier said than done when you've spent hours crafting dozens of items thinking of 500% profit margin only to have it undercut down to the point of selling it just to break even :)

and that's why undercutting is worth so much more than the lost profit. It leaves a strong impression on the person.

LOL nearly 700k for an i90 gear? If I feel like selling i90 gear on any particular day, I put it up for 100k. Also put up a pf offering to sell i90 left side for 60k each, and free 3 star crafting assistance in all classes. Whatever server youre on, your market is screwed up, badly. VERY badly. Im on cactaur
