I had two friends in FFXI that played with their family. Hubby, Wife, 2 kids for one family and Hubby, Wife and 1 kid for other family. They had a great time together and it was fun hanging out with them all ^^Quote:

I actually have the ammend my response a bit. It's not that my wife hates games. We have a Wii and there are family games that we do together where we all along with the kids have a lot of fun (Just Dance 2 - Don't hold it against me). The only problem with FF is that it isn't really a 2 player co-op like other games. I understand you play with others, but they are online friends, not 2 players logged into the same computer.

I don't think I'll ever be able to turn my bf into a gamer. XIV was the best shot I thought I had at it but SE blew that chance.
He understands that I like to play because videogames are my job and a hobby but the hardest time I have is when we have something we planned to do and XI/XIV online commitments happen at the same time.
I really hate blowing off anybody for personal stuff and I don't want to make my bf wait until I get gaming stuff done so I tend to like the easy but slow grin methods. Meaning solo grinding in XIV and Qufim partying in XI.
I think he enjoys videogames the most when I'm exploring new places in XI because the beast tribes and the history of the areas is so well written but in XIV there's not that much to know about the world and the history of the world isn't reflected in the surroundings in the same compelling way.
I'm really hoping he'll give XIV another chance when the world changes and better written story content arrives. -

But... I try to play when he's at work, and not so much when he's home and on one of his days off we make a 'hubby/wife" day where we do stuff together.
We don't have children yet so I am not in the same position as you with the kids. But for the most part, we respect each others hobbies, and he knows this one is mine and he happy to let me play it. He's the one who bought me the game for my birthday, all he asks is that I limit it to one P2P MMO! heehee. :)
Also helps that my LS believes that RL/FAMILY > GAME. :D -

I am married, 2 boys with one more on the way, boy again. I also work full time as a construction manager, which sometimes takes 12-16 hrs a day.
I used to play FFXI for almost 5 years and gave up so I can pursue a career. I was single at the time.
Now, I play usually 3 days during the week, from 8-11 pm. Weekends are on and off, depending on how much work I get done around the house.
A few people mentioned it, the most important thing is let your family knowyouthey come first. Try and schedule your play time, because if you don't, they can't schedule their family time with you and they feel left out.
If you manage to find a way to do it all, it will work out. Also, as someone mentioned this as well, you are not out there partying and cheating on your woman, you are in the basement glued to a computer trying to kill a NM :)
Balance is key, even though you can play 24/24 and not get bored. -

What we do in my household is that we set a time a week (in my case Tuesday evenings) as game time. So I know that I'll be able to kick back and relax with some FFXIV each week on Tuesday.
As for the rest of the week, it's come and go, but my wife does play the game with me.
It's about balance, and as one poster said solid communication. :) -
