Because it's cheaper for SE to design only one set (the girl's) and let the dude wear it. You've surely noticed this with nearly every outfit in the game.

That's why I went ahead and rolled a female. If I have to wear women's clothes, I might as well play one.

Yeah... like differences in male and female gear haven't been a sticking point in these games for years. I honestly love how the armors have largely been the same, with few exceptions, between the genders. Should more armor have exceptions? Maybe, depends on the armor. I mean, the darklight harnesses and those based on them, sure. The harnesses look like they're crushing your chest on a girl. But I rather like the general unisex nature of armor in this game. Soapbox aside, it's interesting to see archer gets a whole set of Darkness gear to themselves.

wish that caster/healer gear weren't recolors of each other as usual

Kind of surprised they didn't give healers a Sage look. I was thinking Devout, but considering we already have Miqo'te's, it wouldn't really be much for them. It is still better than what we got from Syrcus Tower, no arguments, there.

Most of the gear looks way too dark, complex, and tattered. Seriously, there is a lot of tatters in this set.

Because with this we now have 3-4 choices for end-game gear. And blowing their load design-wise too early is a bad thing.

Designing ten distinct sets of gear for every dungeon, crafting and token turn in tier actually IS difficult.
