Au'ra conflict with lore?

I've heard that it has been confirmed that the Au Ra are descended from St. Shiva and a dragon/s. As for the different culture and continent, they could have migrated away long ago to avoid persecution. Only time will tell when they release more info.

Considering the Dragonsong War has been going on for a bit over 1,000 years, and Shiva didn't exist till after the war began, that's some impressive birth rates...

Perhaps they are born from clutches of eggs. Also, no one said that the race was particularly numerous.

Pretty sure there's tons of Dragoons, but only one Azure Dragoon at a time.

Didn't Odin's sword once belong to n Au Ra warrior? At the very least au Ra were !mentioned.

Assuming Au Ra predate Odin then it could be possible that they were once inhabitants of meracydia. Assuming man+dragon=Au Ra then its highly possible that ancient meracydian dragons were on a very friendly terms with man up until Allagans came about

I want to say the sword was from an "Auri", unsure if that was an oversight on SEs part though.

I'd like to think that Meracydians were once friendly with the wandering races, and I don't think it's a stretch either. Hell, Ul'dah was pretty cool with the Amalj'aa not too long ago. I'll refrain from speculating on the origins of the Au Ra for now though, I've got enough theories-in-progress on my hands as it is.

This sidesteps the whole problem. If Yugiri is hiding her face to avoid alarming people due to the scales on her face, what sense does that make if YOU (and dozens of other adventurers walking by while she's talking about hiding her face) ALSO have scales on your faces, because you're all Au Ra just like she is? The goal here is to find a lore-friendly rationale as to why Yugiri would have any need to hide her face if Au Ra are commonplace.

That's the reason for my disfigurement theory. Naturally, you're right - anyone can have a stylish scar or two. For it to work, Yugiri would need to be BADLY disfigured. I'm talking like Batman's Two-face levels of disfigurement, something that would cause actual horror and possibly pity in anyone that caught a glimpse.

Just because Shiva was famous (or infamous) for "lying with a dragon" doesn't mean she's the only one to have done it. She clearly had followers who shared in her desire for peaceful coexistence between humans and dragons (and still does today), and it's quite possible many of them found their own dragon mates. There were probably also cases of human/dragon pairings before Shiva, but none of them prominent socio-political figures as she became.

There's lots of ways you can realistically pump up the number of Au Ri. They don't all have to be direct descendants of Shiva.

I... have a slight theory, but it's kinda a niche darksteel foil hat theory.

Maybe... just maybe...... the Au Ra (I'm thinking Au Ra is singuler and plural like all the other race names) Are ACTUALLY simmiler to what form a Dravanian takes in it's home land. Because personally I refuse to believe that the Dravanians are literal dragons all the time. Or who knows, maybe the Dravanians turned them selves into full dragons at the begining of the war (For Long Life, great power, ect) and USE to look simmiler to the Au Ra.

I think there could actually be a connection between the Au Ra and the Dragonkin that goes far past their apperence. Because we only know two things about Oethard for certin. The Domans are from Doma which is between Garlemauld and Eorzia, and that Garlemauld it's self is in Oethard. So who's to say who or what is actually up there as I don't know of any NPCs that have seen Oethard (Save for Cid, Bigs, Wedge, and the Domans them selves who all refuse to speak of it)

considering Odin fought one to get his sword before he was sealed away and he was sealed away long before St Shiva existed... I'm going to guess this is where we get our chrono Trigger references!
