All of the player races were based off of the ones in FFXI. It's kind of nice to see FFXIV get its own and not just another race based off of a previous game.
As for the jobs, well, it's the first expansion. I'm sure we'll eventually see all the fan favorites come out, these are probably the ones that made the most sense lore-wise, given the concept of the expansion.
Wait, you want me to name you an already used race, so you can prove to me that it has indeed already been used? I wouldn't have minded the Au Ra one bit, if they were _actual_ draconic humans. But they're just humans with horns. SE is just being lazy here, because they want to keep their "One size fits it all"-policy. Otherwise they would have to create seperate models for other races.
Absolutely not. As mentioned before, they chose Au Ra in their current form to save ressources. Not to impress us with the incredible pointiness of their horns.
wait, you're complaining about the lack of another mage, but we have two mages and one physical range, seems that was just fine to implement, or I might be crazy.
To be honest, I'm perfectly fine with the direction Yoshi has taken this. Viera would never fit FFXIV's setting no matter how hard you try to rationalize it - they're basically FFXII's mascots. And Yoshi even said we already have one 'animal/human hybrid race' already with miqo'te, so he felt having a bunny-type race would just be more of the same.
And as others have already mentioned, the dragonkin race fits the game's lore perfectly - it explains why Yugiri kept her appearance hidden and the whole thing with Lady Iceheart and 'Saint Shiva'. Just dumping viera into the game simply because a couple of FFXII fans demanded it is not good game design. The whole 'horses for courses' doctrine definitely applies here.
And for the new Jobs, the jury is still out on them as quite frankly we know so little about how this is all going to be implemented and how it would affect the existing Armoury System. Really, the only (very minor) gripe I have is about Machinist and SE's apparent orphaning of Musketeer with it. But again until we know about Machinist and the other new 'standalone' Jobs there is still hope that Musketeer will eventually be released as well - after all, why render it's Guild and class icon inside the Coral Tower if the class wasn't part of their plans?
Didn't the "Hybrid race" get the most votes or close to on that Poll? If im remembering that correctly, it technically means we got what the Poll indicated people wanted.
Also, I really really wanted the new race to be Gria, as i love them in FFTA2, and the Au Ra are essentially Gria without wings. I am super keen to become one.
I never said I wanted you to do anything, let alone did I say I wanted to prove anything to you or anyone else. My point was that no race that they could've added would be original enough to satiate most people's palettes.
I meant redundant in terms of jobs we already have in 14, not across games or whatever? SMN already fills the role of pet-commanding DPS. We don't need another any time soon.
