I dont get the issue with the gunner job potentially being the new healer... Its still a new job, this alone is awesome.

I for one hope it is, i main WHM and played SCH ( even though i really, really dont like it ). And having an alternative for my WHM that isnt SCH will be nice.

Also it would mean that it is the first non-caster healer which is a nice change.

If its a DPS then be it. I'll wait for a new healer. But i will certainly not complain, unlike those who expect the other way around, it seems.

The issue primarily is:

Look back at 1.0 (2010 release), when your character held the gun it was not with the intention on healing their target.
Look back at Merlywb's introduction - when she killed..quite a bit of imperials, she certainly didn't heal them with her guns.
Look at 2.x - Any enemy or NPC that uses a gun, do they heal you? Or are they damaging you?

So there's nothing "wrong" perse, however just about every gunner present in XIV as of now is certainly not a healer.

If it's a healer and people want it to be a DPS, they should just play it anyway and push DPS like a good healer. If it's ability based rather than spells, then that's even more reason to push DPS on it.

Only issue with this is that it isn't likely to be healing you with the gun itself, but is a healer that uses a gun. It's much in the same way that a White Mage is not healing you by hitting you over the head with the staff, the weapon doesn't matter.

The issue with this though, it has to be balanced around the fact you're a healer first and foremost, which means the gun would be an afterthought in that type of design. Which is why unless everything dramatically changes, there's no indication whatsoever gunners in the XIV world are actually even capable of healing as all of their skills and attributes are that of a pure DPS. The CNJ/WHM example is per lore they're more weaving aether through the weapon, much like THM/BLM and ACN/SCH manipulates it in a different way through the weapon - Thus a gunner would have to do so through their gun as your weapon = what you are in this world.

It's not like FFXI where for example a warrior could have their axe equipped and still cast White/Black/Blue Magic or Ninjitsu without having to be that specific job.

Except that the particular weapon doesn't matter, even if you're weaving your aether through it. Otherwise DoM wouldn't be cross classable. And I'm expecting the gun to be an afterthought. I sincerely doubt it'll be a DPS, since that doesn't add up with what we know about the situation really.

Edit: Just to clarify, are you expecting the gun healer to use magic as well? Because it sounded like that's what you were saying, and that too seems pretty unlikely. Possible, but more likely is a DoW healer.

Cleric Stance already exists, not like it'd be exclusive to this new healer. Might be more prevalent, but I don't think it'll be that bad all in all.

I'm going to be in Japan during the FanFest but not going to be anywhere near Tokyo. I guess I'll read about the updates much later! I'm really excited about the upcoming updates. Hope no more cash shop shenanigans. It has created enough discontent amongst players. Happy Holidays everyone!

exept we are not the admiral nor the pirate from limsa, we are adventurer, the warrior of light... we are more than the normal people. and people need to stop to ask for class from tanaka time... msk was a promise of tanaka... not yoshida, he did only said that a gunner class/jobs was needed, never he did mention msk. that player that still asking for msk.

by the way i will not be surprise that the gunner will not be a DD, do a new DD ranged will have any role in the game and bring anything new? not sure, however another healer can be a plus. just my 2 cents....
