Lag So Bad Right Now Game is Unplayable

ISP: AT&T DSL (this isn't the same as u-verse to my understanding)

I've been having really atrocious lag hitting for a few days now since the last emergency maintenance. 90k's, receiving and sending alternating 0 until both are 0 (then I get 90k'd), server reliant menus (retainers, friend lists, etc) slow to load, players stopping then zipping ahead. This is in instances as well as in the open world, popular and fairly empty zones. My speedtests still show my numbers as normal for up and down, I'm able to run other services and sites like YouTube and Netflix with no interruptions as this is happening. I've tried resetting modem, router, and pc, but this is still persisting for a few days now.

Similar problems. Zero lag until 2.4 dropped. Now I'm rubber banding like f*ck. Constant 90K, really sucks when you're queued up as a dps. Can't reliably queue as a tank or heal or the group fails.

I'm also having the same issue. What really frustrates me the most about this is that I feel like there's nothing I can do to fix it.

No issues whatsoever.

If a train bound for Philadelphia leaves Chicago at 8 pm and travels 65 mph, how soon will a train leaving Chicago reach Toronto traveling at 27 kph. Both trains were carrying 72 tons of tomatoes but the second train calls them love apples instead and uses kilograms instead of tons.

Speedtest does absolutely nothing for showing the status of the electronic path from your console/pc/home network to the game servers actually is as the server it is testing likely isn't routed the same through the infrastructure.

I have been experiencing this issue too, just moments where it seems like everything is taking an eternity but I show no real lag issue due to internet speed. I just figure there's a few kinks in the system after the patch.

I've been hit by some pretty bad lag too. I was leveling rogue outside of limsa lominsa and figured I may just be getting booted due to all the people playing in those areas post patch. Haven't had any issues in the new dungeons though.

I concur with this hypothesis. There is probably a modest influx of new players who came back exclusively due to Ninja finally being a Job, that some of the servers are starting to feel rather bloaty.

Before Day 1 of 2.4, this kind of lag I'm currently experiencing in the game would only occur if I was simultaneously running Skype and Spotify in the background, and only during primetime. But now I don't run either and I'm getting these lag spikes 20 times worse than normal. Also attributed to the lag spikes is, if/when I get a 90k error or I otherwise try to log into the game past, like, 3PM EST, I usually have to deal with a queue of 15-18 people just to get into my server, which never happened prior to 2.4.

There are two possibilities. The most likely possibility is that there's been a small flood of new players and the servers have not yet normalized or been optimized to handle the increased numbers with the same efficiency. Or, Occam's Razor, Yoshida maliciously yanked out half of each server's ram to make the playerbase suffer.

I'm also experiencing frequent lag spike after day 1 of patch 2.4
Strangely, this lag spike only happens on my main character. My sub character on the same account and same server plays normally.:confused:

Balmung here experiencing no lag.

I was in that FC when it just started with about 30 people, then I transferred off XD
