I had no idea the release date was on the 28th until I read this thread. I'm sure im not the only one.
Luckily my friend takes care of my garden so i don't have to worry about that

Ideally, the plant timer should not advance because the server is not awake to run calculations on plants.
Pessimistically, the plant timer could autocorrect when the server wakes by doing a rough calculation on when the server was last awake and when the last 'remembered' check on plants was done. Sort of like when you change the time on your Gamecube to skip dates in Animal Crossing and the world becomes a nightmare.
Rep response is definitely needed here.
I don't think anything takes longer than 6 days to grow without fertilising. I still hope they will freeze time, though.
I left my garden for a weekend due to rl stuff. Left around friday noon, came back sunday evening, purple, still saved them.
How did you come to that conclusion? If I was hanging on the word of the dev team I would have said "you should be fine, plants won't die in the 24 period they are estimating" which would normally be true (assuming you tended them right before. The good thing about having foresight is that it allows me to prepare for the worst as well. This is a major patch implementation, and a lot of things can go wrong. What would you do if after the servers open up a sudden fatal flaw appears that requires an additional 12-24 hours worth of maintenance to fix (sporadic or continuous)? In such a scenario, ideally one would NOT want to have crops planted because there's little to no guarantee one would have the chance or ability to log in. This is the kind of stuff you need to prepare for, because it can happen. I am doing the complete opposite of hanging on the dev team's word.
A good rule of thumb for MMO maintenance schedules is to always assume double time (for any and all MMOs)
If they say it's going to be a 2 hour maintenance, assume it will be 4 hours long
If they say it's going to be a 12 hour maintenance, assume it will be 24 hours long
If they say it's going to be a 24 hour maintenance, assume it's going to take 2 days
Etc.
Then plan accordingly.
If being prepared makes me a primping, fluffing narcissist, then I am happy to be one :D
I'm just looking out for the FFXIV community ^_^ As others have said, it would be nice to know if the timers are put on hold while the servers are down. This would put everyone's mind at ease :)
Maintenance freezes retainer ventures, so I think it will freeze plant status too.
An utter lie, a position completely at odds with the posts preceding this politically correct namby-pamby balderdash.
Additionally, and I say again, no time was given for estimate on patch time until a later date.
Sherlock Holmes said, in a fit of exasperation, "Data! Data! I can't make bricks without clay!" So it is with this.
Folks did not plan for specific-hour windows a week in advance for two reasons:
(A. It did not occur to everyone that the timers might continue to run while servers are down,
(B. exact timeframes were not known.
All your words prior to this tripe, worthy of someone outta Congress, are nothing but a painted smile, annoying and cheap.
EDIT: Long and short of your posts is: wanting to look cool. You tried it first by lording your supposed wisdom over others; now you feign benevolence and concern for the players you just got done insulting.
Pick a position, stick to it.
