Am I being elitist? Honest question.

The new meaning of being an elitist is giving any advice whatsoever (unless asked).
You were an elitist because you gave advice.
Do not give advice ever unless you'r specifically asked for it you elitist jerk!
Oh and don't you dare saying anything in a tone that displeases me, because that makes you an elitist too.

Now days people scream and shout if you point out that they could do something different/more optimal.
Watching a youtube video of your class makes you a master at the class and doing things the way they were told in an outdated guide now, makes the people that are using more advanced tactics the ones in the wrong.
Ohh and don't you dare exclude me out of your party because you plan to kill something within 15minutes, while I haven't even set a step inside the fight yet and can't dodge the 1st mechanic whatsoever.
Also if I tell you my way is better and tell you how amazing I am because I did this content since last Monday, don't you dare telling me that my way isn't the best or that you've been doing this content since 2.0 launch, you dirty elitist with your e-peen showoff, I know it better than you and I'm better than you because I say so and don't care about your reasons.

I tried to give advice like you OP to a friend once, and while she didn't call me elitist, she basically shut down and stopped talking to me and after we realized she didn't care to improve - she was excluded out of our raid group. Now she barely logs in anymore.

If people aren't willing to face consequences of their laziness and unwillingness to learn, let them go and move on. No point in banging head against a wall for someone with 0 motivation.

Sometimes I don't understand people. I respect that you tried to help someone. What I've seen, people don't care how they treat people, because to them we're all characters on a screen.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say, don't take offense over one persons attitude. You did good giving out advice.

I always listen to others. Thinking perhaps they have a better way.

Once you are very familiar with a fight, its pretty easy to determine who is doing what, and being hit by various mechanics.

No, you're not being elitist. You tried to help someone, it backfired. Unfortunately it happens but that's all you can really do. What bothers me more is people who don't try to help and just kick the person.

As I see it. The problem is with the person who decided it was elitist of you, and not the summoner who benefited from your advice (and thanked you for it). As you explain it, it was basically a third party who intervened when it wasn't necessary.

It feels like 'elitist' is just the word everyone uses when they feel inadequate about their performance in the game when it gets brought to their attention. Slightly exaggerated comments we see in game and on the forums all the time:

My dps is leagues below everyone else? You're an elitist for pointing that out!

I'm using a really bad rotation? It's just a game and you're an elitist for not letting me play how I want! I don't care if there's a enrage!

Experience required in your PF? The fact that you don't let everyone run in blind and learn from 30 hours of wipes in a pre constructed party you're making is elitist!

Requiring a voip for high level raids? Pure elitist.

what hp bar are you looking at? I'm decent on my whm but not no major experiance(all jobs 50 though). I have hp bars made visible above characters when they are below 100% hp, this means If I am looking at my battlefield and can see if anyone needs a cure(if they have a bar then they aren't at max) your main party bar shows you what your part is doing, their cast bar appears in the box(the one that has all8, pet, and companion in it). If they receive a buff/debuff the symbols will appear next to their name/casting bar. focus target bar is probably what you aren't using and should be. it's essentially a secondary target that helps you keep track of mob/other players and extremely useful to whm(usually used on their tank).I don't know what job your on, but sch doesn't really need to watch it cast bar all that much. Whm does a little bit, but just make your buffs bigger on your hud and you can see the cure proc appear in that.
