"Open Style" vs "Rigid Structure" what do you want for the future of FFXIV

Although I'd prefer a more rigid system than what we have now...

If you're going to pin their billions of yen in losses on FFXIV... I think you may be exaggerating just a wee bit unless you can pull up SE's accounting records or something.

Personally I don't like the direction the game is headed, but they have yet to even release any of the things they have been talking about.

I can think of a million ideas that would make the game more fun for me to play, but that's not the direction they are taking it. I'm not gonna ragequit because of it tho.

Once they have a few more patches implemented I will see if the new changes are something I will enjoy or not, then I will decide if the game is still something I will enjoy.

Open style. None of what you said affects the difficulty of the game, and if anything, the players would be the ones dictating the roles.

Adjusting the effects of attribute numbers would be better. Such as needing high mnd to cure effectively. Or having non casting classes spells get interrupted easily.

This and partially gimping the effect of spells and abilities not native to your current class.

Nah, I'd play Aion for a rigid system.

First of all stick this in your head: Town you see, the Mores you find. Decisions on how to change these mores are only taken by the town's Major.

Secondly, we're here to give suggestion on how to better / add new stuff in the game. You can't just go say "We Must Change!".
If you can't live in a Town, you'd better change it, not rebuild it the way you want. And even if you did rebuild it, there'll be surely a town made for you that has the same characteristics and has even more population.

And on a side note: the Dev team tells us how to play the game. We just stand by the rules, and if you think there aren't any rules, you'd better think about it.

The idea that you can have co-existing systems is a fine line to walk, I agree they are trying to keep the current classes with the future jobs as specializations allowing you to play both styles. BUT down the line the devs will be faced with developing content for the classes vs jobs and in order to make challenging content the jobs (seem) to be the more powerful party choice. I expect the real end game content to require job usage and as such the people who want open classes will get left to twiddle their thumbs and watch.

I have to say i like the style of your posts at least they keep me entertained while I read about how I'm an infant who wants to be spoon fed lol I did "Like" your post so props to that. In response, I am not asking to be spoon fed I'm asking for a world filled with challenges, if I wanted to wafflcopter around in an open world I'd go play some GTA. If I want to play a JRPG with defined class roles and the challenging story driven content it brings then I look toward FF.

lol, now i feel bad. i hate GTA, so i feel you there. the thing with open fighting mechanics is that you can still have defined class roles, but you just haven't noticed how. you can equip whatever you want and design your character however you want. for instance, my newest thing is to play as a damage-over-time mage as conjurer. so if i were in a party i would define that as my role. i would still most definitely have a role - the only difference is that in a rigid role system i would have no choice as to what role to play. now, with preparation, i can play as healer, nuker, debuffer, or even damage over time -er. openness just gives you more choices from which to define yourself.

Problem we're having isn't that open is bad vs rigid is good (or vice versa) but that the open system wasn't complete and then they changed the dev team who's apparently intent on grafting a rigid system on an open one... And none of us are sure this is a good idea or if it will end up working successfully. A lot things could have been tweaked that didn't need complete removal or change. Recent example: I really don't like how the AOE toggle works currently, and then they've said it's being removed. And I'm sitting here going what? So basically if something is working only at 70% of it's potential instead of adjusting it so that it reaches 100%, you're just going to scrap it?

That's the general vibe I get from this team and I am very nervous about what this means for our armory and class system.

Thing is this server side UI thing seems like a giant pain the butt to tweak a few basic things so it might just be easier and more familiar for this team to adjust things to a way they know how it functions; like in XI...

The problem is that they've given us a sandbox without actually filling it with sand first.

Why does this game suck? They spent time making it so you could solo. Even though people know leve links give you more sp I see people still soloing their crappy leves for crappy sp. They're so anti social they can't even join a leve link group. My linkshell lately has taken on some newer people in hopes that these people will have an overall better gaming experience having a group of people to play with. The solo people just make me sad when I see them. Sure the leve link culture sucks, fail all your leves so you can match up leves with people everday, and never recieve gil or faction credit. BUT then again i think, SE has failed to really balance leve rewards so this will be the system forever. I hate how with SE i use the term "what are they retarded?" a lot. I know they're not, but they're sucking.
