My method for this was just feeding O'ghomoro berries until I got one new feathers message, and then waiting until the change 6 hours later.

Desert Yellow > Cork Brown > Ul Brown > Gobbiebag Brown > Shale Brown > Goobbue Grey > Lavender Blue

In theory if the change is steady someone could test whether it's amount of fruits or new feathers messages by seeing what happens if they feed O'ghomoro Berries and get the message 6 times? At least if I'm understanding things correctly.

So, from charcoal gray I am trying to get soot black. Last night I fed my chocobo 1 Mamook Pear (got the message), 1 Xelphatol Apple (got the message), and 2 O'Ghomoro Berries (no message for either). I ran out of O'Ghomoro Berries. This morning, there was no change. So now I have fed him 2 O'Ghomoro Berries (got the message), 1 Mamook Pear (got the message), and 2 Xelphatol Apples (got the message). He turned Nophica Green!... I now have fed him 1 apple (got message) and one berry (got message). We will see...

Alright. So going for midnight blue from desert yellow:

Xelphatol apple to start the timer
2 apples no message
4 apples with message
4 pears with message
25 berries with message
1 apple with message
1 pear with message
1 apple with message
1 pear with message

My thought is that with that many berries I might hit the max blue and having apples and pears before and after will help darken it without losing too much blue.

5 hours left 'till result.

This is the closest thing to a guide I've seen, and makes perfect sense. It also matches with the people progressively making changes and reporting here.

If it doesn't say it will change feathers then you haven't fed it enough for a change to take place.

My husband's chocobo that we've been tracking carefully. In each case we feed berries until the 1st "new feathers" message.

Starting color: Desert Yellow:
Fed 3 Berries (3 total) : UI Brown
Fed 3 Berries (6 total) => Aldboat Brown
Fed 1 Berry (7 total): => Shale Brown
Fed 2 Berries (9 total) => Gobbue Grey
Fed 2 Berries (11 total) => Lavender Purple (blue)

You ended up with colors we didn't, which strengthens my thought that maybe there is some kind of HQ-type proc on some of the colors. Seems like people would be better off going one step at a time instead of mass feedings.

Well I tried this exact combination and feeding with all the same feather "proc" messages and ended up with a snow white bird....Too bad I was going for Lilac Pink.

Got a Seafog Blue chocobo, after feeding 20 O'ghomoro Berries and 8 Mamook Pears.
The first 2 didn't give me any message, then all of the others did. Also, I gave 3 o'ghomoro>1 mamook>2 o'ghomoro>1 mamook, if you want to know the order.

I don't quite remember how I got from blood red to loam bown, but after getting Loam Brown feed it 2 berries, 1 Pear to Deepwood green.

From deepwood green, 1 Valfruit to soot black.

What do I have to do to get from Colibri Pink/Lavender Purple to Iris Purple? ;_;

Been going back and forth between those two colors even though I'm always feeding diffrent amounts of fruits or diffrent fruits in general >.<'

This is some fantastic information! Seeing the colors fade into each other like that really helps visualize how this system works, and your table with the RGB values really helps as well. Thank you!

11 Berries, 10 Apples and 11 Pears got me Halatali Yellow

26 Berries and 22 Apples and Pears got me Orchard Brown

31 Berries and 30 Apples and Pears got me Wine Red.

These numbers are cumulative over three feedings and start from the chocobo's base color.

This is definitely not guaranteed, but off my memory 1 Plum, 10 berries, 7 pears for loam brown. The problem here is I don't remember how many plums i fed.

The recipes on the spreadsheet follow number of fruits fed. However, I've noticed that the first few fruits I feed give no messages about feathers, sometimes just the first fruit sometimes the first three. After I get the feather message once, I seem to get it after every fruit.

That said, I imagine more accurate recipes would be born if we countedonly fruits that resulted in a new feathers message.

Food counting is inaccurate. I believe it relies on the feather growth message. You could follow the same food count as listed on the chart, but if that person procced a different amount of feather messages than you, then they will have a different color.

It's better to go in small increments towards the color you are looking for.

This is is correct and has been stated several times over the course of the thread. There is another thread that is tracking this data as well. The spreadsheet is not accurate in terms of it's recipes (for the most part).

Just pure berries should get you Royal Blue. You also likely don't need such large amounts, especially not from where you're at right now.

The Chocobo Dye Experiment thread is full of people testing colours via "Feather" messages. You might be able to get a more accurate result by mimicking some of the testing found there.

Cieldales Pineapple x4
Doman Plum x2
Valfruit x2

I don't know if all of those gave him this colour, but that is just what I fed him. I kept the feed equal between all three, then I tried something different and I gave him two extra pineapple and he turns more yellow :D.

Still looking for any sign of Grape Purple out there.

So far my bird has gone:

Desert Yellow --> 16 Apples, 15 Berries (6hr Later)
Dalamud Red --> 5 Berry *feather change on the 5th* (6h later)
Rolanberry Red --> 4 Berry *feather change on the 4th* (6h later)
Regal Purple --> 5 Berry *feather change on the 5th* (6h later)

Left me at Royal Blue. I just fed it one Valfruit which gave me a feather message and then 30s later an apple which also gave me a feather message.

The RBG values on the spreadsheet for royal blue are pretty close to grape just a bit more red and less blue so I'm thinking I should be somewhat in the ballpark.

But if anyone's seen info on it thus far let me know!

Fruits fed: x10 berries and x8 plums in 1 go
Result: Celeste Green

Was aiming for Sky Blue following the exact same combination and possible conditions on everything from someone who got Sky Blue and ended up with a different color.

Data Gathering
I want to gather data on single-step color changes with a single snack type.

Please submit the form if you have some data you would like to share.
I am trying to find out how consistent the colors are by doing single steps, feeding one snack type until the "is growing new feathers" message.

I need all of it but, I really need some input for using pears and pineapples on the Desert Yellow, there are a lot of mixed results so far.

Please submit this Data Gathering Form

To clarify: What I mean by a single snack type is one session where you feed (for example) all Valfruit and end the session when one "is growing new feathers" message is received.

sample:
starting color: Desert Yellow
type of snack: Valfruit
Number fed before you got the "is growing new feathers" message: 5
Resulting color: Salmon Pink
