The Paladin Job quests make it pretty clear that the Monetarists have been undermining the Sultansworn for some time and assassinating figures they deem a threat. The reason they weren't present could either be due to corrupt agents within the Sultansworn or the Monetarists doing something to distract them. Frankly they had already failed in there duty since it was to protect the Sultana and even if they were are the banquet, nothing the Monetarists were doing there was illegal, at least on the surface. We may have been framed but they had set things up to lawfully put us in custody and Raubahn's actions were very illegal. If anything they would have been bound by the law to attempt to detain us.

I don't normally post in the lore subforum, but while browsing reddit, someone linked to the old 1.0 lore forums and I started going back through things. And then I found something from this thread, straight from the Moose:

Nanamo is a Dunesfolk on top of being royalty; I would imagine that sort of tradition would be there even in present day Eorzea, wouldn't it? So unless it was some one-off poison that the monetarists knew she wouldn't have some resilience to -- if that's common knowledge at all, or it's somnus as some are theorizing -- I would imagine what Jenlyns tells the PC might be true: that Nanamo is indeed just "ill" and "resting." None of the images I'm pulling up of Teledji are telling enough to me that he's Dunesfolk or Plainsfolk (and I'm not currently on a character that can access those cutscenes) and I'm not sure if Plainsfolk would know about Dunesfolk practices and vice versa (that and I don't think we know what Lolorito is...) and it's not fully said that it's JUST from the flora and fauna around their native land. Since they came to Eorzea proper, wouldn't that extend to whatever else might be there as well, and buffed up further for the Royal line?

I could be completely wrong in this (and I likely am) but if it does come out that "HEY NO I'M REALLY ALIVE HI! :D" using this would make a heck of a lot more sense than just a silly Disney Death and Nanamo being alive from Other Factors.

It may be that she was given a lethal dose of a man-made poison, because the way she died is similar to cyanide victims.

I think the fact that the CG cinematic showed Nanamo dead cements that, well, she's dead.

The CG cinematic showed Nanamo just as "dead" as we've seen her - motionless on the floor after drinking. Whether she's dead or comatose and kept alive on purpose, we still don't know.

I don't see Lolorito giving Nanamo a poison that wouldn't work. That poison resistance would be pretty common knowledge. Really, I can't see any reason they would bother to keep her alive and I can't see a reason she would fake her death.

Guys lets realise this, if Nanamo turns out to be alive. We are not going to find out soon, is going to be on some point so distant that there will be no one that could still think that she could be alive and It will take us all by surprise.

But wouldn't that be really bad writing? Yeah, Nanamo is no Aerith, but Aerith was still dead by the end of the last disk of FF7 and it set the tone and moved the plot for the rest of the story. Nanamo may be blonde but all this to reestablish Ul'dah as a republic. I refuse to believe she is setting the new standard by faking her death allowing all this to happen despite all the setup for her wanting to abdicate publicly.

On a separate thought. I believe each nation will wind up having gone through their own crisis at some point in the future. Ul'dah is just the first.

Really don't get, why she does not have a food taster or something alike (if the whole poison story wasn't her idea...). I mean, she KNOWS that she is surrounded by vipers, that's the whole reason she called us.

If you visit the palace the Sultansworn are the ONLY guards there.

Normally they would not allow anyone else in there. That's the whole point of different guards. Just look at the praetorians of Rom. MAYBE (and that's a big maybe) the would allow some brass blades in there, as personal guards for the Monetarians. But for sure not foreign soldiers like the Crystal Braves. The Crystal Braves in such a quantity inside the PALACE(!) would also alarm the Flames for sure, especially when they are on a hunt there and you can't hide a violent search of this size. It's all very, very strange and while there may be an explanation for this somehow, the Flames and also the other cities must be as much confused by this.

Brass Blades storming the palace is one thing and dubious enough, but those Crystal mercenaries? Would be better if they had given them all Brass Blade uniforms. I mean, it does not really work out. The Crystal Braves were some strange invention of Alphinaud and the Scions. The want to accuse the Scions - and Alphinaud - of espionage. But the mercenary funded by these spies are now storming the palace, helping the Monetarists to seize power?

Dubious... - Really would like to know, how Kan and Merl try to put any sense into this, without simple coming to the solution: Okay, this was an obvious coup and we must cancel the alliance, before this effects us, too (or find an other solution).

They had given the Brass Blades the total control of securing the city before the banquet, so it's likely that the Flames and Sultansworn guards were replaced for that occasion.


Another thing about the whole supposed conspiracy that the maid is helping Nanamo, while I was redoing the quest on my alt, there was a short cutscene when you see the maid putting the bottle and the cup on the table. Nanamo walks in from behind and says 'You not need to trouble yourself'. Maid says something along the line of 'It is but an honor to serve you.' My impression from this is that Nanamo really wasn't aware of the maid's implication.
