Reluctantly agreed to do a second 50/60 with FC mates after getting some Deltascape Normal drops for our bard and ended up in Xelphatol with another DRG. He was using a Padjali weapon and our healer kind of made fun of him for that but then when the DRG said he was a returning player, gave him good advice about where to update his gear.

All his gear was pretty outdated, actually. My FC mate switched on his "insanely talented math skills" at one point and calculated that the returner DRG was doing less than half my dps.

But he kept up a good attitude, was polite, attentive to tips about bosses, and then thanked us at the end. I commed him and was pleasantly surprised he returned the favor. Safe journeys through Stormblood, friend.

I don't consider myself a bad tank at all, but I tend to pull a bit slower than some of the more reckless tanks. Really not anything out of the ordinary I think, two trash mobs at most, if that. I've never really had a problem, in fact, most players I've run with appreciate it, lets healers throw DPS out. I'm also still getting my feet wet with how DRK goes after being a paladin, with my biggest issue being that I feel so squishy between TBNs, so that's another reason why I pull a bit slowly.

Then there was my last group.

Black Mage kept pulling and pulling and pulling for me. Healer was OoM on a lot of pulls. No diversions to ensure aggro stayed on me. Soon as I ask the black mage to stop pulling for me, she tells me to "pull bigger", my answer to which was no, for the healer reasons. The other DPS chimed in with "dragon being bullied by a potato" (BLM was a lala), which is funny, but still only served to piss me off. Left that group before the second boss of the run.

You want to see why more players aren't healers and tanks? Because of players like this BLM.

So from start to mid-way everything is going smoothly, The only concern on my mind is the pace at which the groups of mobs are dying from the tanks large pulls. I figure the RDM is the kind of DPS who refuses to use AoEs in large pulls and I'm not paying attention to what they're doing as I'm just kind of in my own world with my rotations and whatnot. By the time we got to the 2nd boss I decide to take a look at the RDMs gear since it's been almost 20 minutes by then...The guy had near full Shire gear except for the weapon slot, Which was occupied by a LEVEL 50 WEAPON.

I immediately point it out and ask why they were using it in a level 61 dungeon, Their response? "meh lol". Fast forward to after the 2nd boss is killed (Which took a solid 7 minutes to kill) and the tank refuses to budge, asking as well what their deal was. "I just forgot to get a better weapon". I'm sitting in my chair with my hands on my face flabbergasted and am now convinced this person was a troll...We kick the guy, New DPS joins, And we kill everything else in the dungeon what then felt like we were setting world records in comparison to before.

And before anyone comes to their defense I'm going to ask you something, Do you REALLY think they forgot about their weapon when they clearly went out of their way to keep the rest of their gear relevant?

Next time instead of you leaving, I understand it's frustrating, kick the dps. After they spend another 45 minutes in queue, maybe even a third or fourth time that day, they get back on their track and stop back seat tanking. You on the other hand will always get instant queue, and while I normally don't support axxhxxx behavior, in situations like that, it's the only thing you can and should be doing. Who knows maybe after that person got kicked for a whole week, every time he/she enters a dungeon, might rage quit. Happen to a lot of my "older" dps friends that couldn't be asked to be a team player either lol.

Healers and Tanks do not have to listen to DPS or have DPS interfere with their job performance. They wan't it differently, well play a tank or a healer. end of story.

Mostly agree, except when it is legitimate help that is being given. Like a tank not using tank stance because they feel they wont need to(had it in a Mentor roulette on my RDM...took a few wipes of me taking it with using Diversion AND Lucid within the first two minutes), or helping the PLD to understand that you can use 2-3 Flash per mob to help keep agro(and not to use Total Eclipse in it's place...or getting them to use Shield Lob instead of Provoke on ALL pulls - even bosses).

There are definitely times that I wish a tank would listen to what is being said, as a lot of the time it will help them much better than everyone remaining silent for fear of backlash/unjust kicking.

Trials roulette as RDM. Leviathan.

It took us about 3-4 wipes (look, once you're up to 10% Echo, things start getting fuzzy) for us to even get past Tidal Wave. All thanks to the moronic Lalafell WHM who kept hitting the shield too early. And as for why we didn't notice and call them out after the second try, I personally found it difficult to throw out DPS, dodge Leviathan's attacks, and keep an eye on what everyone else was doing, at the same time.

That's advice and a total different story. But the moment a dps pulls, tries to be the 2nd healer, tells the healer/tank what to do when, and rages when that doesn't happen, that has nothing to do with advice anymore, that's back seat tanking/healing and should be punished. Since SE doesn't do anything about it, since it falls under "different play style" category, we the community need to "discipline" the newcomers and WoW players, because that's what it mostly is, I have yet to find a veteran that couldn't wait for 2 seconds and had to pull for people. They do exist sure, but it's mostly not them being these kind of players.

Sounds to me more like a BLM/SMN job boost, unlocked RDM, and power leveled it to get into SB.

Got wanderers palace hm on my drg yesterday and was paired with a drg who I believe was a jump potion user. Said drg never aoed on large pulls, never used heavy thrust (ever), jump? wots that and their dps was so low I could kill two enemies in the time it took them to get one past 50% hp. Why would u do dungeon content if you have absolutely no idea what you're doing, why :(

Vote kick is only allowable when not in combat. Guess who kept pulling?

The most I ever laughed on a DF was a Dun Scaith run when I watched, like a slow-motion car crash, as two sprouts got nox, panicked, and ran from different sides of the room straight into the alliance. It was like Saving Private Ryan as people ran, bodies everywhere, pets dying, and after five seconds nearly everyone was dead. Only a sprout tank who'd been away from everyone else was left alive, and he said, 'healer????!'

Doing trial roulette as bard before lunchtime and gave me Lakshmi (normal, I never do extreme things). I only did that 1x in first week for story, but sucess after 3 wipes.

Just got out of a Shisui with a BRD who used AP song once, WM song thrice, MB song thrice. I never saw any Bites on any boss, I could count Rain of Death on one hand. Just after the first boss, the healer asked the tank to pull more, but the tank refused. Because only one dps was using AOE (that'd be me, the NIN). We get to the second boss, and the tank bails. Healer and I decide I'll try NIN tanking - that was amazingly fun. Not only does she kick pretty hard, but I was still AOE targeted, so I'm running around to avoid that while hurling things at her (like a crack addled monkey), as she's chasing me. After she dies, our replacement tank arrives.

BRD gets locked out of the last boss. No big deal, we got her down in the usual amount of time. Did not miss that BRD's dps. Afterwards, I am advised that I did over double her dps...

If that AST reads this, you were fabulously great. Would love to run with you again.

did probably about 2hrs ago now? a Baelsar's Wall run for a friend who needed the clear.

it became obviously clear this healer was in the mindset "OOOH! RDM! i get to be a lazy *Censored* tanks health consistently went down to 15% before any big heals were given, and paid verry little attention to my friend who went DRG or me (me i can understand) all she did was "Stand in Stupid" (AoEs) on the first part where you got wave of mobs comin off those conveyor belts. the tank while not exactly great but not exactly Shit, struggles to take and Keep hate on mobs at the start of big pulls forcing me and my friend to wait a few before doing anything (as it was easy to rip hate off this DRK.)thru the Entire run upto Griffin, i felt like i had the healer Green Role icon next to my name! A RDM's Job is "Nuke nuke nuke till 80/80 (or 100/100 to lessen the time to next round of your melee phase) Smack shit with their Rapier and repeat. NOT play as main healer! yes if healer or tank is in that half heart beep or the healer is under duress (be it Mechanics incapacitating them or bosses that have phases that cant be tanked) you should pop a few vercure's to prevent a wipe or healer death.

so the first try at griffin is a mess (partially my fault for not telling my friend to only focus on center Sword.) as im struggling to get a decent amount of damage out as having to backup heal. we end up wiping before he's even to 70% Health. after telling everyone "Focus on center sword, and soon as someones collared break it." it goes much smoother and the healer began to pay attention and not rely on me to do their Job.

could of saved headache to just reque as here on aether wait for DPS on that is hardly beyond 13 mins. but its showing a sad trend with DF of late its not overly often but not rather rare either to catch healers that see a RDM and act like this. so went to make some tea and fire'd up the ancient aging dos-pc for some classic SimCity 2k fun. and shrugged it off.

to the Tank if your reading this Try harder to Keep hate on AoEs and things wont be so hard for you , as outside for that you went That bad. the healer didnt exactly make it easy for you. wouldn't mind running more dungeons w/ you on the upside.

I did the level 69 dungeon with my girlfriend since her tank is about to hit 70 and my SCH is already 70. I don't heal and she doesn't tank, but this was our 3rd or 4th time going in together. During one of our early trash pulls, the BLM was standing with Selli and ended up getting cleaved to death faster than either of us could react. Then during the first boss I got cheeky with the cannon and ended up getting fettered and dying, which caused us to wipe. Thankfully the run went smoothly after that, but I felt...very defeated and frustrated. On the bright side, the DRG we had awesome. He was using Goad on my girlfriend and he knew his rotation and was even watching his aggro on bosses. He got both our commendations.

Alright I queue for trial roulette and get ravanna. Shouldn't be a prob. Nearly everybody new, so I volunteer to write mechanics in the chat, while main tanking, since the other tank was new as well. Whole run wasn't smooth at all, heals were missing, dps was slow as hell but I didn't say nothing.

We all know the mechanic that comes after pillar of heavens right? Right prey. I mark the off tank, tell people to stay away from him, tell him to turn on tank stance. all the sudden OT get's one shotted together with 3 dps that didn't read the chat.

Healer fell off the platform prior because didn't stand in front of a wall. We wipe, try again, next time same thing, but now I have healers and OT screaming at me. I said it's "prey" a mechanic i can't control, unless I somehow kill the off tank, then I get it as MT but still, in general I can't control what the system throws at the player as a mechanic.

We do 3 more pulls and then abandon since people just couldn't follow directions but,
this teaches me, not to help people anymore, every time somebody says I am new, I just leave from now on, have some other person clear it for them. I don't mind people screaming at me, but at least burn me when I am being an Idiot, not for bs like prey :/

Yet again, I'm told my heals suck :) On SCH in Quarn, MT is wearing level 1 accessories (I'm using adloquium, having to spam physick like mad along with aoe healing when needed, am I doing it wrong?!), and the dps aren't focusing on killing the wasps, then one of the dps pipes up "I feel sorry for you (meaning the MT), you getting no healing". I said, you need to kill bees quicker, I'm dps'ing them as well, then dps says "I main SCH you aren't fast enough", so I ditch asap... I'm getting fed up of DF in this game, makes me want to stop playing completely and just go back to playing single player games... I remember why I quit few years ago now.

Not really a horror story but it did make me feel really bad...
I was practicing how to WAR (incredibly shy and nervous tank here, I suffer some anxieties)
and in Sirensong Sea, the mobs with the dogs at the end with the Coffinmaker lord dude...
The AST PULLED me into the mobs by using rescue when I didn't want to catch them all.
My friends told me to let everyone die but I guess it was my fault that I forgot to say I didn't want big pulls yet.
The dungeon went off flawlessly either way but still...Same instance, the 3 crabs at the beginnin, NIN grabbed more.
I just finished run and left.
I almost gave up on DFing things
as a tank and make a PF stating what I want...I decided I'd give it another go and ASK each time
what the healer wants like I normally would and the next few runs went perfect.

Moral of the story is - As a tank, speak up! or ask your healer what they would like.
That way, if you die it's their fault lol.

...I think I know where my luck goes rather than towards items. It must be used up with getting decent DF groups.

As for a story...last night I couldn't sleep, so I logged back in to do a dungeon(most of them are so boring I almost fall asleep during them anyways). Get into Ala Mhigo. Load in and both myself(RDM) and other DPS(SAM) get in progress joining. First thing one of the others says(I believe it was the WHM, but could have been the DRK) is that "the other DPS were retarded", I don't say anything and neither does the SAM. After we use the shortcut(they had killed the first boss at least) we get to the others, and the tank pulls EVERYTHING up to the end of the large pack of dog-like enemies. Things are dying quick to both our AoE + Embolden. Kill last three before second boss, and take that boss down quick. More big pull after the second boss(everything to first laser grid, until everything pulled dies, then pull everything again to next grid). Once we finish, say our thanks for the group, and leave. Somewhat surprised that I got two comms, since I find it is rather rare to get them as a RDM. Gave my comm to the SAM.

Started Void Ark queue at 7 pm PST. This was before I fell asleep on my keyboard. When I woke up, it was at 5 hours. Spoiler alert... I gave up.

I can't wait for 24-man Roulette.

Other MNKs not bothering to use positionals or True North, I know it's frustrating when you miss them for whatever reason but at least try.

On the above: Tanks turning every boss into Saturday Night Fever Disco Spin time for no reason, I Tank I know when you're just spinning the mob round for "lulz." Stop it.

The one Mentor in Doma running away with the stack marker, setting off mines, standing in the machine guns, running into the last bosses chainsaw and dropping the meteor marker on the tank while ley lining back to the other side of the room. Youre the reason noone takes mentors seriously when we try to give advice. I hope you get banned.

Other than that had some chill people and good times, the usual ups and downs of DF :p

did a Leveling Roulette the other day as a lv65 SCH with my challenge log looking like this

Dungeon Roulette: 2/3
Dungeon Complete: 4/5

and I get Bardam's via the roulette so I'm thinking it's pretty sweet as I just hit 65 from doing Trials. I got the DRK that does the wall to wall pull while stopping at each and every pack for a good 2 GCDs before moving on to the next. He pops CD at least and I manage to keep him up through the entire dungeon, he even tells me that I did a good job on the 2nd large pull (one before the 1st boss) saying that not many can do that. All I'm thinking is "go jump off a cliff" cause I HATE those stupid wall to wall pulls. My friend was the SMN in the group and other member was a DRG and I just watched that poor DRG's TP tick down to nothing as he tries to keep up with all the Doom Spikes and Sonic Thrust (and did use Invig). Meanwhile my everything is on CD trying to keep that tank alive. That tank reaffirmed why I switched to BRD main this expansion

some dps just flat out think this is still the days of XI were DPS's Pulled. it's time for these scrubs to move on and get w/ the program,

I had a terrible DRK tank in Shisui yesterday.. I was on WHM. He already annoyed me at the start because he ran off before I used protect. Then, on trash pulls, he kept losing hate to my aoes. I ended up tanking the second boss as WHM because even with lucid dreaming and him in grit, he failed to pull the boss back off me (I was just above the DPS). On the first pull after the second boss, the crab was really nailing him hard.. I noticed he barely had more HP than me, even if his gear wasn't that awful, so maybe it was broken? We tried to ask about his gear and one of the DPS was yelling at him to provoke on the second boss, but he never said a word. I just let him die on the final 5 seconds of the last boss out of frustration.

Worse was that I was running Shisui partially due to wanting the set for glamour, but the only healer drop I got was a necklace. :V

I had a weird experience a couple months ago of a player joining a dungeon with 0 interest of actually doing the dungeon instead they would just run into every mob until they died and repeat the process until they were kicked.

Today I ran into the same player again today and they tried to do the same thing again I recognized there name immediately and we just waited for 5 mins and booted them but I don't get what the point of playing like that is and they are definitely playing quite often as the first time I saw them they had only 1 job leveled and now they have like 11 jobs from 40-51,

You mean....you didn't even ask him to do small pulls, you impressively managed to keep him up, he actively uses CDs AND even compliments you...and you're mad? As if the tank can read your mind when big pulls are the norm? As healer I expect big pulls and as tank I do big pulls unless the healer tells me otherwise. If anything you should be feeling good that you actually healed him well and thankful that he actually used CDs properly or else this story wouldn't have even had a happy ending.

Nope, instead let's piss of the most needed role in the game and pull for them and other crap. and then everyone scratches their head as to why no one tanks. it's a really hard job honestly. PLEASE STOP MAKING THINGS HARDER FOR TANKS! there's barely enough to go around so why make it harder? sorry but jesus. -.-

Is tanking really that fundamentally different in WoW? I've both bumped into and read about tanks moving to FFXIV from WoW only to be completely baffled by how bad they are doing here.

So here's my story for the day.

I haven't had much chance to play in the last few weeks (other than crafting classes, things that don't need much attention) so I had completely forgotten that I had unlocked a new dungeon (new for me) for the Sunken Temple of Qarn, and sure enough it popped in my roulette, and because of that I didn't look up mechanics in advance like I normally do.

First boss comes and I of course die because I didn't know what to do for the Doom (silly me, I thought I could esuna it away, I was the healer) and we wipe. So I ask for mechanics and people give them to me. I still die on the second time because I swear I thought I was on the square but I guess I missed it. My second death didn't cause a wipe,but I still felt real bad. Thankfully, no one was being mean. Next bosses I asked for mechanics before entering the room, people gave them, and I tried my best not to act like a noob again (and succeeded, no deaths, no standing in crap, no getting hit by lasers).

On the last boss one of our DPS didn't LB and someone got upset over that and was being a little...jerky about it.

I was surprised. Given no one was a jerk over my 2 deaths (which added a few minutes to the run and I feel horrible over it), I didn't think anyone would care that much that our DPS forgot to make the battle a whole 5 seconds shorter.

Yeah. That first boss in Qarn the only instance where Doom is not Esuna-able. Don't worry. Once you figured this one out, you'll never see a mechanic as confusing as this again.

Qarn HM's first boss, for example, has a quicksand mechanic in which you'll die if you don't get out of the AoE quick enough. That's already much more manageable than that "Doom, stand on the glowing one out of the three slabs" mechanic.

And if you got a good paladin then the first boss in Qarn normal is almost mechanic-less. You can stun the boss while it attempts to cast the roar that inflicts doom, or if the DPS is good and you stun him you will DPS past the trigger for the doom roar. Resulting in never having to actually do the whole stand on glowing panel mechanic. Makes the adds more of an issue then the boss because the adds can both final sting the tank and one shot him since it does an enforced 75% of max HP in damage.

According to my friend, who did tanking in WoW and has been tanking here, the difference is pretty massive.

In WoW you simply cannot rip aggro off a tank, even as low as level 10. Once a tank smacks a mob that's it. They have aggro. DPS can go full bore right off the bat and they simply wont be able to take aggro off any tank that can half decently play the game. They also have almost 1/3rd the global cooldown we do, so any mistakes are really easy to recover from in WoW. Mobs can barely have time to turn before the tank has established aggro on a mob they initially missed.

Here they have to fight for aggro, the longer global cooldown means that it takes longer for them to recover from any mistakes. Which also any dungeon below 30, before you get your tank stance, is terrible because you have to work even harder to maintain aggro. He even says he can tell when someone is using a parser or not, because a person using a parser goes full bore right off the bat to try to hit the biggest numbers they can. Just like in WoW. Only here doing that means its really easy for them to rip aggro off the tank, something WoW tanks basically never get to experience.

Tried tanking Dzemael Darkhold and Aurum Vale today and wow I suck. I keep zoning out here and there and that makes me lose aggro, keep making silly mistakes and overpulling(? think I did that in AV). DD felt really cramped and tight, and AV is just ugh. I've gained a new hatred for these dungeons. Really wish I could skip to the part where I get better at this lol.

But I do want to shoutout to the SMN at the last boss of AV who said "stop fking baby raging and play" because I was messing around saying "are you kidding" and "i want to die and be dead" after lag or whatever it was made me get hit by Bad Breath. You're a real star. Btw, I never caught that SMN using resurrection. Would've been handy for when we almost wiped to Coincounter.

Has this changed recently? .. recently like within the past 2 years? I remember quite clearly having to not go full bore till the tanks had gotten off a couple particular skills. Otherwise we'd hear a familiar "Lol rogue tank" or "Lol warlock tank" and whatever boss it was would eat someone.

Finished up AST and decided BRD would be my next item on the list to get to 70.... starting from a wee babby level of 16. I don't even remember how I got it to that point, honestly, but regardless.

Queue up for Leveling roulette today, get Sastasha (expectedly). Party is composed of a Gladiator, Lancer, and Scholar - all with the leaf status, but upon checking party list, the SCH was 52.

This SCH... look, we've all been through the whole "queue up for roulette hoping for something on-level, get dropped into freakin' Sastasha of all things". It sucks, I know. I hate it too - which is why one would assume, given the absolute hatred most higher level players have for getting dumped into the very first dungeon in the game and having most of our skills greyed out, they would do anything possible to make the run go faster without screwing people over while doing so. Apparently this SCH didn't get that memo.

I notice that from the first pull with the wee bats, this SCH casts Physick despite the tank having took no damage. .... And then Physick again. And again. Eos is just sitting there twirling her fairy curls, until the SCH tells her to pop her HoT for some inexplicable reason. Physick spam continues. Tank gets a scratch? Have a Physick! Tank is sitting at full health and in no danger of dying or even needing to have a heal? Take a Physick! Oh yes, and not a single DoT or Ruin was put out whatsoever. I main a WHM and now have an AST, I know the whole argument about dpsing vs. not dpsing on healer. I don't care if you don't dps, I really do not care - it would sure make the lowbie dungeons faster, but so long as no one's dying and we're moving at more than a glacial pace, I honestly don't care if you sit there and let Eos do all the work. She definitely can handle it, that's for sure. But there's just something extremely irritating about seeing someone spam cast Physick for no other reason than... I guess they're bored being in such a low dungeon? Maybe?? I have no idea. Admittedly though the "VREEEEEEE" sound SCH/SMN books make when casting is annoying as well, but that's another discussion. About... maybe right after the first Madison fight, I just kindly speak up with "[Healer name], you don't really need to spam Physick so much! Eos can handle this dungeon easily, no worries." I don't even suggest they dps instead - I just say the fairy can do all the work, because she definitely can. What does this SCH do? Proceed to start spamming Physick on me until I literally stop doing anything, and also the tank gets slightly more than a scratch on him. At that point, I know it's literally boredom and someone feeling like being a lazy troll.

For a bit I actually stopped doing as much as I could have with my few skills - slightly spiteful, oui, but after that little display of theirs I wasn't exactly happy to be stuck in that dungeon for another 10ish minutes. I guess once they noticed stuff wasn't dying as quickly, they started actually picking up their slack - I saw DoTs going out after nearly half the dungeon of nothing, so at that point I went back to actually being a good dps. Thankfully, they continued their DoTing up to the boss rather than falling right back into lazy boredom - ...... they were still spamming Physick as much as they could though.

I never ran out of a dungeon so fast in my life once we killed Orca-tooth. RIP my sanity leveling through ARR dungeons for BRD.

He stopped playing about a year ago, though he does not know how it would go for warrior or paladin tanks. As long as some ranged did not hit the mob first then once he smacked the mob it was his till death.

I've not played for a while (WoTLK) but I played Prot Paladin and it was an emnity monster like everything it did generated emnity, even getting hit. It was incredibly easy and incredibly boring even in Heroic (I think they were called Heroic) raids.

You'd still get caught out of the gate every so often by trigger happy locks and rogues but you never got the creeping aggro bar of doom once you had hold of something.
