Hehe, That's interesting. :3 If it was my choice I'd have a house with no little helper in it, but I don't mind too much. I just want a house at all! :x lol (It would be cool to see gob shops.)
And good morning to you! That was a fast reply. (Well not sure if it's morning where you are, but it's early here. XD)
The gobs wouldn't be in your house you'd just pay them for it and expanding it.
Wish a dev would post some word on Limsa's Chief Admiral. I'm pretty certain of her origin but without official word we can never say for certain.
+1 to this I don't make friends based on gender and I don't think you can really generalise about female MMO players like that. If we're going to talk about being 'girly' or 'girl packs' then yes I'm into that sort of stuff. Nothing wrong with being girly! But I also have many male friends, I just also happen to LOVE video games :) we're all into different stuff that's just how it is. Which is why I'd like more variety in the first place, to respect all the differences between us and our likes and dislikes :D
I'm a little bit gutted if that company NPC is the female Roe. There was a part of me hoping that they would be exactly the same as the males visually but with smeared and badly applied makeup. I picture female highlanders as the same, but all with facial hair, it just would have been SO funny. When i think of them i cant picture anything else. I see the male miqotes as being the character thats /barely-male/, all cutesey and feminine, visually identical but without the breasts. I think its only fair we have Roegadyn be the other side of the spectrum. Honestly if it werent for the ears i wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the company NPC chick and a duskwight Elezen, and we already have them in the game.
except that Duskwights have no neck, long ears, larger breasts, smaller face, less muscle, less mass over all, shorter. Smaller nose. Smaller brows. high forhead hair line. Live in Caves, French Names...
While Merlwyb has a long neck, short ears, small breasts, large face, more muscle, more mass over all, taller then everyone else in the picture, larger nose, larger broader brow, low forehead hair line, Live off the Sea and Germanic Names.
I'm really happy for you all that want to play as a female roe or male mi'qote! I am excited to see them around Eorzea in the future, and I may just have to make one as my alt. <3
Honestly, it is hard for me to tell how the admiral/female roes will look in game based on the artwork. Of course we can analyze her relative size to chocobos, look at her features, etc, but it is hard for me to imagine how the actual NPC would look in-game next to the other races. I think the art looks really promising though! Her looks are distinctive and attractive without being overly "pretty" or "girly"; whatever her proportions are like in-game, I think she will look strong and dignified.
As for males and females of each race being similar to each other . . . I figure that gender dimorphism would vary by species, just like it does in nature.
Am I the only one who thinks these should be unlockable races? That way they'd still be rare. Something like you need to get a job to 50 and you'd get your jobs reseted to 1.
I don't think that would go over very well lol XD, I don't think anyone would want to level all the way to 50 on a character they dont want to play as just to have their levels reset when they finally get to start as the race they wanted to play as at the beginning. I think they should just save that for unlocking new/advanced jobs/classes like they did in FFXI.
If XIV shares the same lore stand on male miqotes as did XI on mithras, then I'd say it should be regulated in some way or another...
also, currently there is no reason to have more than one character other than aesthetics since there is no stats difference and jobs can be changed whenever. Honestly, I'd level my char again and level the same jobs again, and get the same nm drops again, and get fairly pissed.
On that note, it'd be nice if SE would let us mail our equipment to alternate characters. rare ex equip I mean.
But it doesn't, they're vaguely related only in some slight appearance similarities. They're not actually related in any way shape or form.
Honestly I can really see them putting in an option to allow us to change race/gender, probably with $/crysta. SE has warmed up to the micro-transaction scene and I think even they realize they could make a quick buck off of this. And I'd honestly be completely okay with that, anything to have to avoid re-rolling my character. Not giving us such an option would be incredibly unfair to all the loyal players who kept the game alive before PS3 launch.
Chances are to be fair if they did release the new race genders that they would let people of the respective gender switch for free (probably for a 1 time only thing). That would be my guess. Same could be said for when they add new hairstyles and the like to the already existing races.
I think it would be unfair to limit it only to the already present genders for the missing genders and it should just be something that they give everyone.
That would be far from optimal, considering that many chose another *race* given that they couldn't play the *gender* they wanted. There are a lot of people that chose gender before race (for instance, I'd never play a female character). So, for instance, many of those that would have liked to play a female highlander, in the end played a female midlander (or some other race), because they wanted to be female in game. With your solution those people would be screwed over.
It is no different than when new class comes out, you will have a mass influx of that class for a set amount of time until it dies down. Most people aren't going to delete their main for a male cat/female galka and even if they make an alt to play it, I honestly doubt they will dedicate all their time to leveling something from scratch when other new content will be out there for them to play.
No they won't. People have said the same thing in every other MMO when a "cool new race" gets released.
The truth of the matter is this:
- Just because we like Male Miqo'te, doesn't mean everyone does. Quite a few people just won't care. In fact, quite a few people don't like the idea of them at all.
- Most people aren't going to start a new character to play as them, even if they like the race.
- A lot of people who support this idea don't even want to play as them, they just like seeing the added variety to the game. (Something the game desperately needs more of.)
- There's no advantage to being one, it's purely aesthetics.
You will probably see a lot of them when they're unveiled, sure. But not everyone - not even most people - will play as one.
And a large number of respondants to this thread, and to threads about Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn.. Yeah I have it memorized already wanna fight about it?, are starting to say they really like the Female Roegadyn idea and appearance and will be rolling as one when they release.
I know a few LS mates who have voiced interested in Female Roegadyn if they're like Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn.
I know I'm completely smitten and in love with Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn.
So? I never said people won't play as the races, or even that a lot of people won't. I said not everyone will, and that a lot of people just won't care. It's not going to be an unbearable flood where the world is suddenly saturated with one or two races\genders, it's not going to be much different from now in fact. This is a tired and silly argument that surfaces in every MMO when a new race is added, people seem blindsided to the fact that there are a LOT of people out there with differing opinions and tastes to their own.. And just because one person will recreate a character from scratch just for the aesthetics, or just because one person loves so and so race, doesn't mean the next joe is going to give a rats ass about it. The simple fact that there have been so many repeated offenses in this very thread where people were opposed to the idea (on flimsy basis at that) proves that not everyone wants to play these characters.
The game isn't at risk of being nothing but catboys or lady roes, that's all there is to it.
I think the switch will be done with a one time switch or having to use crysta to pay for the tranfer of your character information wich I hope it also concludes the name. I think only those who choseN the race get to switch the gender is bs and I would be willing to bet it wont happen.
Hmm, I had not thought about the name issue in case race/gender swaps are allowed when the new ones come out, that is a good point. A lot of the Mi'qotes I meet have unisex sounding names, but I see just as many with decidedly feminine names. And goodness knows that the first names I've chosen for my girl chatacters would seem quite silly on any male character -- if I wanted to swap to a male mi'qote, I sure wouldn't want one named Lily or Holly. xD So it'd be nice if SE at least let us change the first name along with the potential race/gender swap, but I won't hold my breath.
Though come to think of it, I don't see how a race/gender change could be offered without having to practically remake the character anyway, since all the races/genders have different character creation options. May as well just allow a total remake including the name while they're at it lol.
