simple answer would be... make footwear invisible on the race... I will take Viera with default footwear over no Viera at all.
Just a friendly reminder to the "put bunny ears you are a viera" team, that this is the show your support thread :B, not the "i want to play as a beastman that doesn't fit the WoL role, lore or the main public at all " thread. People usually forget that the core of this game is japan, and they are not so so into monster things o.o... but it would be cool to have something more beastlike as shown in the AuRa concept art.
Footwear invisible for viera would be awesome, and it would fit them :)
Yoshi-P said back in the first (or second) Fan Fest in 2016 that Beastmen won't be playable due to lore reasons and gear rework reasons (I think. The OP of the Fan Fest 2016 thread edited their post). That's still not going to stop me from hoping for Beastmen glamour (not like the Vanu gear, but actual Beastmen glamour). The 'core of this game is Japan' argument is also really bad and shouldn't be used. It just makes SE look like they don't care about NA, EU and everyone else (and could potentially imply that the Viera race will be redone to be a cute anime waifu usamimi).
SE would never make footwear invisible for a singular race (and they shouldn't). Some pants just look weird without shoes/boots.
Just make them taller Miqo'te with bunny ears. That's good enough. I'm sick of the fake Gold Saucer ears with the ugly crown on top.
Welp, now a Beastmen Glam is another thing. Far more possible. Maybe a gold saucer prize? And it's not about square not caring about NA and EU, it's just that 8/10 of the player base enjoys the same thing as the JP playerbase o.o
Pls no ;~~
I dunno about 8/10. I think it's just fairer to say 'around' 50% until official sources say otherwise.
Digigrade feet are not impossible to do...I mean BNS does just fine with lyn and they usually go barefoot or have high heels. NC did a good job at maintaining masculinity on the males too.
It's not that they're saying it's impossible. They're saying to put it in would be a pain. Though I think it'd be fine if they handled it in a similar manner to bns or wow but, in bns's case you have to remember every female in that game naturally wears high heels... that and gear doesn't really exist, it's a costume slot.
To the request's for high heels in 14 that is... difficult. High heels aren't just another boot or shoe to be worn on your feet. High heels change your very posture and the way you walk. Just something to think on ;)
I've made a speculation regarding an article written by Bodie Fogg on the subject of the Viera race.
The article covers the main focus of prompting Naoki Yoshida, or rather "grilling", him to uncover more information. While there was no clear cut answer, he phrased it in a particular fashion.
Copy and paste from the web page,
"Not to bug you, Yoshida. But I'm a big fan of FFXII's Fran. The Viera*race was considered for Heavensward but never included and Stormblood marks the second time they've been left out. Should I give up hope?"
"I don't think you should give up hope. I mean we're hoping Final Fantasy XIV will have a very long lifespan. With that being said. Fran and the Viera race have a very high heel and trying to depict that in Final Fantasy XIV is challenging. They won't be able to wear any shoes that exist in Eorzea right now."
In this response, we can safetly make the assumption on a few possibilities.
First, to use a character as reference, being an already existing concept, and acknowledging It, means they have already formed a concept on how to apply it within the realm of Eorzea. This is further supported by the fact he specifically mentions they cannot adorn current footwear that specifically EXISTS right now.
On another speculation, he specifically mentions that he wishes FFXIV to have an extensive life span. Should he as a producer want this? Absolutely. Can we speculate something else? For sure. This could be taken as, from what I personally presume, his anticipation to have this possibility a reality in the future. As of the coming of 4.0, they faced the trouble of rebalancing the issue of the combat system. Once that is surmounted, this could very well possibly be the next big project he wishes to bring to fruition as one of the expectations he wanted for 4.0 but unfortunately couldn't fit in at the end, as mentioned in another article.
If you are curious about the information provided and the article used as reference, the quoted article may be found here.

(Literally, could be reworded as, "Give us time, we can make it work. No promises, look forward to it.)
Well there's hope atleast so that's good I meen yoshi-p wouldn't say that unless there working on it for next expansion or something buy who knows
It seems more likely that if we get any new races they wouldn't come in till we start exploring the New World. The only race that hails from there and not Eorzea right now are the Mamool Ja to my understanding, and would be the perfect time to introduce any sort of new playable race including Viera.
But this would also be quite a few expansion out, not until at best 6.0. More likely 7.0. Which given we got Au Ra still puts us ahead of XI in that aspect.
This makes sense considering the fact that the mamool ja look verry similar to the banga from 12 to a degree anyway like an offshoot of them or a difrent tribe though I doubt they would wait for 6.0 or 7.0 to release the viera only cas of the fan support for such a race is at an all time high I feel as though if it dosnt come by next expansion people might not care when it dose finaly come but who knows
It is happening but we just don't know exactly when. Just question of waiting I guess.
Maybe a bit of Fran in Return to Ivalice :v
They can also combine pants+boots stats for Viera(if equipped by one) like certain heavy armor. Same for glamour too, but that would require them to go through every single pants item and create a high heel foot option. /shrug Depends on what is easiest for them.
I find amusing that all the Viera Nays have stopped with the resounding "FORGET IT! ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN YOSHIP CLEARLY STATED THAT IS NOT SOMETHING IS GONNA HAPPEN MOVE ON!!!"
and look what we've got now from the man himself XD
I can't see that happening, as it's adding race specific gear into loot pools (tables?). Imagine being in a raid and caster pant-shoes drops, but the Roegadyn Caster can't use it because it's only for Viera.
They also can't go back and fuse pants and shoes together just to make Viera work as I am pretty darn sure no one would appreciate not being able to choose their pants and shoes combo.
Considering that the Viera are pretty much bunny versions of the Miqo´te with weird feet, would it not be best to simply give the miqos a "third tribe" option to include them?
I've argued that as a compromise. This thread says no.
But the fact of the matter is that he wants us to continue with the hope of it being a possibility. There is more of an advocacy rather than a denial in most recent cases.
For those who are aware of my previous post and acknowledge the contents, this is a reminder that there will be a FULL INTERVIEW updated next week on the cited article.
I will hopefully be able to divulge more information to share with you all about the Viera topic, if there is (hopefully) anything more. :)
That's a great idea!! While we're at it why don't we go ahead and combine Au'ra under the Miqo'te flag too! They're just reptilian Miqo'te anyways right? -_-
I can compromise, my desire for Viera can range from many different takes on it. But that ^ is not compromise. That is being willfully ignorant so one can make a cute quip.
Really? I didn't read the quote as "its happening", I read it as "its not happening, but who knows in the future", Yoshi P won't outright say that its not happening because he doesn't want to upset the minority of players that desperately wants the race, but the quote in no way implied that it is happening.
Uhm, the differences between the Au´ra and the Miqos are way broader than the differences between miqos and vieras.
What you wrote makes absolutely no sense.
Vieras And Miqos are both just extremely common Kemonomimi races that you can find in pretty much every other Japanese RPG / Anime / Manga / Whathaveyou.
We are not talking about this extremly complex and unique race, we are talking humans with animal ears and tail.
I've gone into detail on how it could work as a third clan. They'd be taller than the other two clans, have longer ears and shorter/no tails and have their own animations (picture it). The difference would be like Midlanders and Highlanders... but with eyebrows.
That's exactly what Au'ra are as well you know. Dragon kemomnomimi races are pretty common in all those mediums you mentioned as well. Special ears/horns... special tail... scales/ markings... limbal rings/slit eyes...
They are exactly the same if you want to make wide generalizations. There is no difference between calling Viera and Miqo'te the same as calling Au'ra and Miqo'te the same.
If it's like Highlanders to Midlanders isn't that the same as just making a whole new race then? Highlanders, from a development view is basically that already. They have a unique skeleton, animations, faces, hairstyles, etc.
If they went through the trouble of doing all that why not just make it its own race? I mean, I guess I don't really need a 2nd tribe but, just seems weird. Course I think the fact that highlander is pretty much its own race is weird as well lol.
Uh, no.
Au´Ra ( Especially the males, but also the females ) have extremely different body typing, build and shape and every detail you mentioned gives them a radically different look to the Miqos.
Viera are LITERALLY bunny miqos with feral feet.
https://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net...20110812050333
I mean, the similarity is brutally evident.
Bringing body typing, build, and shape into this? Really?
Cause, Miqo'te, midlander, and au'ra share a VERY similar build in all of those lol. Not identical but, similar.
I mean, viera themselves have a completely different body type build and shape if you want to go there. Tall and slender, elegent, digitigrade feet, and a more upturned bone structure for the face. (not comparing the male Au'ra... they are a completely separate entity from even their own races females lol)
My bottom point is that simply editing the Miqos into having a third "bunny tribe" is much easier to do and therefore objectively more likely to be offered to us than pretending for them to create an entire new species of a race that it´s not even all that different from an existing one, just to please a minority of fans.
If you do not consider this to be a good compromise then it´s up your alley, what can i even say.
I particularly do not care if the Viera are added or not, i am a big fan of kemonomimi races so all the more power to me.
But you tried to make it sound like i was speaking nonsense when i was in fact not.
It's mostly so that it feels natural when they're added into FFXIV. Expanding on what already exists is better than plopping something into FFXIV and no, you cannot use the Ivalice raid as a way for the Viera race to be introduced as a playable race (it wouldn't make sense for a newbie to start off as a Viera, when they technically shouldn't exist until after they do the Ivalice raid. This is assuming the Ivalice raid is the Ivalice with Viera, Bangaa, Nu Mou, etc).
The only time Viera can naturally be introduced to FFXIV is 6.0. They can be introduced in 5.0 if SE shows some Viera within the Garlean army throughout 4.0. If not, then 6.0 is the only way (New World, new lore, potentially new starting point for the new race that has you eventually go to ARR zones. Imagine if the Au Ra came out in 4.0 and their starting point was in Othard and you eventually go to ARR zones when you unlock airships. That would feel less jarring than their HW introduction).
That's how you wanted to read it. But for Yoship , he is clearly giving hints about Viera might happen and not a resounding "NO is not something we got plan for now"
The hint is there. the demand is big for a specific race whether people like it or not.
It must be tough for the kill joy and nay ones to take this info in lol
I do so love it when people assume they are the majority lol.
Le sigh, What can ya do /shrug ;P
Now ya see, there is a reasonable argument.
I would argue however, that SE (assuming they maintain their methods) don't mind waving off an explanation for why we could start as Viera... they already did with Au'ra in HW. Can't see any reason they wouldn't with any other race they add. We are just random adventurer from unknown origins that everyone accepts no matter what after all lol.
And yes, while YoshiP's new comment has sparked a little hope that I might see Viera by 5.0... barring some shocking revelation in SB, the pessimistic in me agrees it prolly won't be till 6.0 if we're lucky ;(
i will not bet is not possible for the 5.0, return to ivalice can maybe have a link with dalmasca, the place in orthard conquer by the empire a long time ago... for the one don't knowing it, dalmasca is too the name of a place in ivalice. since we go to orthard, maybe we will discover that this place (that was wiped in FF12 by an ultima bomb) was maybe transfer to hyadelin and will explain why return to ivalice name for the 24 raid. introducing maybe race of ivalice... then maybe viera.
and i think like you that add them as a tribe of the miqote will be the easier way, but will be strange. who know
ps: even if i hope is something more like Lea mundis that did appear and will give us a raid that recquire us to explore this place.... god i love vagrant story :x
Also a friendly reminder. This is an open forum meant for discussion, not echo chambers. If you don't want a topic discussed then it's best if that topic simply doesn't exist. =P
OT
I'm fine with whatever they decide to add so long as it's not ham fisted in some way like the Au'Ra.
"But Kyu, the Au'Ra weren't ham fisted in lore!"
And they weren't. But introducing a single NPC towards the end of the 2.5 series then having them explode into the scene for 3.0 just felt forced to me. So I'm hoping what they'll do; if they're using the Ivalice raid as means to introduce a potential new race, is have said race show up purely in the raid for 4.0/4.1 (whenever the raid opens up) then as the patches go we start to see more and more of said race outside the raid. Then as 5.0 rolls around we get _________ as a new playable race. Lore integration -> World integration -> Player integration. To me the Au'Ra felt more like: Lore integration -> Player integration -> World integration.
I do agree with implementing the race to show them off the au ra did feel a bit forced becuse we didn't see any of them until they were playable
As for the person who said "the beast races won't be playable yoshi p has already said this" he said that for the current beast races the ixali the amaljaa the kolbold however there can be a beast race implemented to be playable after all they are the debts they can do what they want, personally I would love the Beria to be a beast race that way peeps get them in the game but non playable :)
