Was my first experience as a new tank in Haukke HM back when it was new
If anything, they need to narrow the sync so that a healer or DPS can't rip hate from a tank with every action. It's an absolutely nightmare to tank the 1-49 dungeons.
Every time I do leveling queue and get Satasha, Copperbell, Tam-Tara, or Haukke, it's the same story. one cure = I'm now tanking. When I tried doing one of these dungeons a few times as a level 20-something tank, every action the healer did would rip hate from all the enemies directly to them.
It never used to be like that, and it's kinda sad that the tank can die before the first boss, d/c and I can still complete the entire dungeon doing both the healing and the tanking.
A new tank will never learn how to tank correctly if every action by the healer and DPS puts that player at the top of the enmity list.
I'm a new tank myself (just hit 50 on DRK). My gear's not the best, but I've been running roulettes to practise. Everyone's been pretty nice so far, even when I can't hold hate.
Except for this run I just had in Battle of the Big Keep.
Decided to MT, but the OT (PLD) ripped hate from me. Switched off Grit to let him MT, since he outgeared me; he didn't bother to move Gilgamesh for the chain, so the healer nearly died. OT died right after.
OT: lol
OT: had to build hate for u
OT: u shouldnt be here with that weapon
[Which is fair. My main hand was under-levelled, but I hadn't expected this particular trial.]
BRD: it's a level 50 weapon though?
OT: this place is average item level 90+
OT: and i took hate from him in 1 combo without tank stance
OT: lol
Me: i just rouletted dude
And at the end --
OT: dude
OT: my chocobo does more dps than u
I held the boss for the rest of the fight and did the mechanics fine. And yeah, trying to MT was my mistake, and I'm getting better gear before I go again. But that's a lot of salt for a minor flub.
Be nice to your tank partners, people!
So many edits I'm making. - cause I'm pissed and I really don't want to write a post while being pissed off.- But people need to cool it on the play my way or else. I think it's fair to not insult someone if they want to get chest in deep dungeon. It's not my fault or my friend's fault YOU don't have the time to play. Get better timing or make a PF if time is really THAT much of an issue. But don't insult people cause they want something different then you. That's all I have to say.
Sorry to the person that liked the post I had up here before the edit. was heated off the moment and didn't want to sound THAT mad.
DF thought for the day: Be grateful when everyone in the group have even a 40%-60% idea of how their class works (much less when it's 60-80% or higher!) and make a real effort. Be grateful and try to adapt however you can to help get a clear.
And despite the rudeness and selfishness out there, thanks so much to all of the people who have realistic expectations for DF. In any MMORPG, pugs are a crap shoot. You fun people who enjoy actually playing (with others) are why I stick around/come back.
As a side I'd take someone who sucks at their job and be happy then take someone who is some wanna be pro gamer anyday of the week. I can deal with " I don't know what I'm doing" I can't stand " you suck cause you're not playing how I play at all times and be perfect and NEVER make mistakes." Because that human exist. - ok I'm done. -
Dear healers, some of you have forgotten your jobs as healers ever since the removal of the cleric stance dance. Many of you have decided to role play as black mages and summoners instead, by all means DPS when it's appropriate, but remember that your number one priority is to keep everyone alive. That is all, I have spoken, feel free to reply with whatever excuses you have below, I'm sure someone else will care to read them.
;; I just had one of my more rough DF healer runs. In Doma Castle
lol A few deaths happened and a few ignored mechanics. >>; I decided to reward one of the DPS with Balance cards, cause they used mana shift on me and helped with the mechanics... The other dps noticed in the end.
DEAR BLM, you were not bad, you were super good and you made me laugh. >>; I was just panicking because you stood in the aoes and such... WHICH I TOTALLY GET, and so I did my best to keep you up...
It was the tanks first time and he was doing his best too. I tried to throw some cards your way, also I thought I did gift you both a balance at the start...
EITHER WAY I HAD A GOOD TIME, I panicked a lot, but it was fuuuuun.
Friend queues us for trials roulette. I wanted to be on BLM, but he queued us while I was still on DRK. Oh well. We get Chrysalis. Other tank is also DRK. Other DRK tries to be main tank even though I have better gear. Other tank also never puts up Darkside, just Grit. I have both up, and after a few enmity combos, I manage to steal hate. We thought it was cute that DRK thought he could outtank me without having Darkside up.
So I got my second kick ever today, second go in shisui, 64 AST.
DRK, Bard, and SAM. "Hi, first time AST in here," protect, and the DRK just books it and pulls everything he can before the gate. I try to catch up, and he's melting. He dies, (no sect) the SAM takes all the aggro and dies instantly. DRK returned, and now the bard's sprint kiting everything back to the front gate.
I follow in confusion as the BRD dies. I just die so we can reset (still no sect). The DRK stands at the gate for a while as I rebuff and go Diurnal, before he starts to pull small. No issues then, I can even DPS.
Post first boss, DRK sprints off, pulls big, and melts again as I catch up and try to save it. I now notice no Grit. Dead DRK returns instantly again.
I'm trying to heal BRD when, "You have been dismissed from Shisui of the Violet Tides."
Jeez.
I main healer, but I've been working on Paladin (what a queue difference, Dungeons always need tanks, Trials always need healers, Raids always needs DPS.) DF is a crapshoot but when I queue as healer I tend to keep getting stuck with speed runner tanks in level 60+ content, or I get Satasha/Copperbell/Tam-Tara and a tank that I rip enmity from in a single heal.
However, good golly people when you get a tank that pulls one thing at a time, please don't go pull everything else nearby. Also, scale back on the overhealing. I keep seeing WHM's launching Medica II bombs in content that doesn't even need it. You know what happens when you do that? You end up at the top of all the baddies enmity list. I did Amdapor Keep twice (second time because I forgot to unselect it) just to do the relic reborn bit, and because I need to use the specific weapon with that dungeon, it's very easy to have enmity ripped off.
I think Yoshi-P needs to actually drop an item sync on Mainstream Scenario and all the level 50 content because it's too easy -and- it's encouraging the same zerg-play like in PotD. Like every Ultima Weapon run I've done since SB's release, Ultima Weapon doesn't even last long enough to even start counting down self-destruct. The Garleans, beaten up before they finish their scripted lines. It's just so much of a joke the 1-49 dungeons and the level 50 content now. At least sync the currently unsynced content to 130 (the highest you can get poetics gear at in ARR)
Yesterday, I did a dumb in Stone Vigil as scholar. On a whim, I decided to check the sprout tank's search info. Only gladiator and paladin to, I think, 47. This broke my brain a bit, and I asked how they could be a paladin if they only had gladiator... just in time to eat a Swinge to the face and die. Go me.
My friend queued us up for trials. I got nothing but Garuda and Ifrit all week. What could go wrong? Oh hi final SB trial. This was a pretty good group. The other tank and healer were new and a couple of DPS. We wiped three times, but each time there was progress. It was great watching them all come together and beat it. Then I slipped off the edge because of Diamond Dust and the new tank followed me and that poor lone healer panicked and we wiped again. Fourth attempt was textbook. I gave my comm to the new healer.
When I'm dps and the tank over pulls and we wipe =
tank: sorry my fault, could have played better.
healer: no it was my fault, I didn't manage my cds, sorry everyone
dps: ahh don't worry about it, I could have done more too.
When I'm healer and the tank over pulls =
tank: you f****** **** learn to ******* heal
dps: wtf healer??? ?? ****
dps2: noobs
The thing is, he never spoke a word, and after first wipe, he DID slow down and we did fine until he got impatient after the first boss and wouldn't go one crowd at a time anymore. I did get the drop from the boss, at least..
I had a friend over yesterday so I just laughed it off with her over dickntanks and promptly showed her a bunch of cutscenes and ran Royal Managerie on my SCH to dust off the salt.
I should've reported him. Live and learn.
So I'm not trying to defend the tank or anything, but question. You know you can put a sect up in combat, right? It's set up so you can't remove it in combat, but if you don't have one, you can put one up in combat. Unless there's another sect thing I'm forgetting about.
Doing Temple of the Fist with a fresh Paladin tank, while I'm ilvl 311 Bard. I expect to be high on aggro, so I'm keeping tactician/refresh ready. After the second boss where, after dumping hate twice, I still got aggro, died, got raised, and got aggro again... I called him out. What does he do? Blame me for not watching the hate meter. Words were exchanged, with him sitting by, and not tanking (letting me tank), and then going afk because "you 3 are going to kick me anyways". While waiting for a new tank, I decided to do a little digging.
-He has only "leveled" 2 40+ DoW/M jobs. I put that into question based on the lack of other tank jobs he's leveled, the introduction of the job boost, and my final point.
-All of his DoL/H jobs are 60+, with 4 of them being 65+.
-Upon reviewing the thing-that-shall-not-be-named, it appears that not once... in the ENTIRE dungeon....EVER... did he use Rage of Halone. Shield Lob had a higher use of 0%.
My condolences for anyone else that runs into him.
Just had the worst Tank I've experienced in a long time. Running Kugane Castle I felt really sorry for the Healer, who had to deal with a tank that didn't have the first clue how to be part of a team.
-Start of and they go for a small pu---oh wait they've changed their mind, now they're moving on after I've blown my load on the first 3 enemies.
-Once past that they grab the next lot and run and grab the others on the bridge. They die. They got raised and started running backwards towards the start. Healer had to type in chat to alert them.
-Later on they pull some enemies, but then decide, once again, to now go for the big lot upstairs before those mobs are dead. Tank dies. Healer Dies. We all die.
-Go back to the start and the Tank is already off and not waiting as healer doesn't even have time to get protect on them (at this point the rest of us didn't even bother with sprint to catch up)
-Did I mention there was a newbie? Guess what happened at the last boss. So yeah, it's simple enough to take it down with 3 people, despite a tank that has a like for aoe spots made by butterflies.
Kudos to the healer who tried their best with a War that had no idea, but is apparently one of the people who have "git gd" enough to pass RM.
when my friend tanks he;s ALWAYS saying sorry and having watched it play out myself. It freaks everyone else out cause they expect rage and then get a tank whos all like" SUPER my bad, I messed up. etc etc." I'm starting to think the person you replied too ran with him.. cause thats a line he says when he messes up. Like legit.
So I just did a run of Castrum about an hour ago and it was rather interesting.
So the run starts with everyone booking it out of the gate. No time to cast Protect so I trail behind and notice that the tank already has Protect on. So I shrug and switch it back to E4E until I feel like I need it again (I did).
So this tank wants to pull EVERYTHING and I quickly noticed my tank was a little... squishy. No biggy. WHM has dem big healz so we were fine. The tank did end up dying on the first boss though (think it crit its Tank Buster or something). The thing that really surprised me? The tank took responsibility for their own death! They commented how their equipment wasn't really up to snuff, so I took a look. Yeah, most of their stuff was around lvl 65. Meh. I still found time to do some DPS between heals so I wasn't complaining. And sometimes it's nice to have to actually USE my healing kit.
The thing that was interesting is that the tank risked doing big pulls even with such "bad" equipment. It was pretty intense at times, with aggro bouncing around, but no one complained.
We clear the dungeon with no issues and I thanked everyone for the run. Tank replies: "all you". Walked away with all 3 comms. :) It was a fun run.
It's one of the reasons I hate wow. WoW has no balance anymore. It's low level content isn't even a challenge when you are at low level. I remember this one quest in one of the expansions where I had to damage a monster but not kill it so i could capture it. I tried all my attacks one at a time and the monster died. I took all my gear off, the monster still died. I don't remember if i had to remove my weapon or not, but I turned off auto attack, selected the monster and turned it on. Yay! It didn't die so I tried to catch it... Auto attack went off again and it died. So, I did it again and turned auto on and off fast. And I finally got it done. WoW is only end game. Hopefully this game keeps a better balance.
Trial Duty Roulette. One of the healers spams Stone 2 the entire time. No other spell. I message the person after:

So, what gives with the Stone 2 spam?

Don't tell me how to play.
Ran Bardam with as my 70 drk with a levelling whm and blm from the FC. Our random was a samurai. He did ok during the first fight, but took off sprinting before the last mob died and grabbed the next pack. We sat there and watched him die. Then he asks why I did not pull the mobs off of him. Instead of going in depth about how dps are dps and do not get to decide when to pull, I simply told him "If I had helped you, you wouldn't have learned." He apologized, said he had been stuck with crap tanks that like to pull everything and wipe. He did really well for the rest of the dungeon. Kudos, randomurai.
Grinded out with my best friend in Shisui, we got two DPS and one of them was Samurai that doesn't finish their combos nor is doing them right. We advise him what he was doing wrong and yet he bashed at us and told us he going to just use 1 action, which he did. We spent an hour of our time in this dungeon which really irked me.
Was in Violet Tides dungeon with a Red Mage.
We just finished pulling the first boss, and the Red Mage starting doing what Red Mages do.
Literally, 1 second before the purple gate closed the battlefield area up, the Red Mage did his back flip jump away from the boss and over the purple line and got locked out a second later.
Safe to say i laughed more than i should of.
I rarely kick people, but if they openly admit to slacking off on purpose......why did you not kick the SAM?
We all need to stop letting people do this and carrying them through the whole run while they purposefully slack off just to spite you for daring to try to help them.
Vote. Kick. Them. Out.
Let him wait another 40 minutes in the queue. Then maybe he will decide against being a spiteful jerk to the next group he gets since he won't want to have to wait in queue again.
Like really...try to help someone and they decide to spite you and only use one button the rest of the run; thought I'd seen everything by now but nope....community shouldn't allow them to get away with it.
Had an awesome run for my main scenario roulette yesterday! There was so much laughter; everyone was cracking jokes and goofing around while we brought the pain~ It was awesome :D

Cid appreciation day!
Thank you to everyone involved - I hadn't had that much fun in so long!
Well, I did kick him off, but at the same time, I felt bad since I vote kicked out at the end of getting onto the final boss. He was literally a jerk to the group and to my friend especially. This is mostly why I tend to do dungeons/grinding things out with my friends/premade instead of duty finder most of the time. By the time people pass level 60, they should already know how to play the game and it isn't hard.
Just did V3 for my first time. I was awful at it. I think I am a much better player on my BLM then I am on my RDM.
Wait a hour in duty finder for the royal menagerie to just have party disbanded 10 minutes later because a healer and both tanks leave.
A huge thank you to the random NIN that joined us on my very first healing dungeon on my baby CNJ in sastasha, after suffering from a couple of disconnects during the run you still gave me a comm and boosted my confidence, you were patient and kind and made the run so much less stressful for my first healing attempt, you deserved all 3 Comms myself and my friends gave you :)
Shout out to that last party I was in that one-shotted shinryu...you guys are the best! 3-4 people were new to the fight too, it was awesome!
I just want to thank all the people in the recent groups I've had lately who kept dealing with me being 90k'd.
I came back almost instantly and managed to make it but still, these disconnects are rough and I really do appreciate their patience.
Yesterday roulette 50/60 gave Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) while I was leveling my white mage. It is rare I play as white mage, but that dungeon not hard... But tank was losing aggro for me in every pull. And even in boss >.<
I almost clicked Leave after first boss, thinking "This tank is trolling me or only newbie?". But I stayed until end and managed to keep all alive.
After that I tried do The Sirensong Sea for leveling, but too much dc. Perhaps Square hate me >.<
