From my understanding from reading everyone's post and my own experiences, the entire payment system is completely down.

The payment system is still down for me in Australia, and the customer support always says "We will deliver the problem to higher up...blah blah blah" same kind of response for every ticket i sent. Guess the "higher up" are too busy fixing the new patch to even bother fixing the payment system.
My trial just ran out and I can't renew my subscription either. I've tried multiple browers / no add-ons, credit / debit / paypal, logged onto VPN, and tried to add crysta. Nothing works.
Here in France, I get these 401 / 601 errors too.
Tried to subscribe again after a few months, and this occurs, with 2 different credit cards.
Anybody found something ?
Same problems here. Been dealing with these payment issues for quite a while now. I want to give them my money... they just won't take it.
here is the tip i succeed . im not sure if its the real solution , and i havent tried on auto renewal methods .
1.go to mog station .
2.select 'square enix account setting' tab
3.select 'register/update payment method'
it will lead you to another page, and select UNREGISTER first.
i believe this will clean up your payment info.
(i followed the customer support advice, i decide add crysta instead of use my credit card.)
and I choose credit card as my crysta payment method, it worked.
i have to mention, i got same error when i tried to add crysta by ultimate pay or credit card before i tried those tips above,
i hope it could help u guys.
I have also encountered these issues, and it turns out it's because of a browser extension I use, noscript. Because the actual payment site goes by too quick to whitelist, I just disable it while I'm updating payment info.
Same thing here. 30 day trial ends. I set up account and get the error code 601. Go to get crysta, denied. Pick up a game card and they have to email me the activation number for the account which I still haven't received.
Fix these issues and maybe more people would play this game. No point to update a game if you can not update the payment options.
Sadly, with the discontinuation of the Ultimate Game Card this work around is no longer possible... and the official FF time cards actually are more costly per month than if a longer subscription is purchased with crysta or a card that would work through the site... also they are out of stock at PCgamesupply anyhow for official FFcards for US customers...
*le sigh*
Please, please someone tell me this will be repaired so that in the future there are payment options that are available directly rather than through vast work-arounds and the precarious juggling of multiple account transactions.
I'm certain I am not the only one that feels like it would be nice if preloaded debit and gift cards were accepted as well instead of the current (and dreaded) 401/406 issues.
I don't know why Square doesn't just use Sony's Playstation Network to help with the payment for the PS3, PS4 users. We bought the game through PSN with no problems.. makes absolutely no sense why it shouldn't with any other payment system. I am living overseas temporarily but have had no problems with any other payment systems (iTunes, Amazon, Steam, Playstation Network, etc.) Gotta get that payment system working guys at SE...
Just came back after the free weekend. Tried to renew my sub when I knew I had the funds in my account.
Got the 406 error twice... and not one comment on "Oh we're taking £1 from your account." which they did twice so I know it's not a bank/card issue. And now from what I've seen I can't use my card again for 30 days because of this error.. great.
I was looking foward to levelling today but looks like I can't. Back to World of Warcraft for me then since I can't log on or resub for 30 days since I only have my debit card.
I tried many times with different cards but still i got 401 error ><
I couldnt buy crysta also.
someone help me plz ; ;
My Free Trial just ended and i get an error 406 when i try to setup an automatic renewal, or an error 401 when i try to purchase Crysta.
The problem isn't with my card, yesterday i've been able to add a friend account to the credit card without issue so yeah.
Same issue. My trial ended today, and kept getting an error. Contacted support multiple times! First time they suggested I use another browser, then didn't even bother to wait a few minutes for me to try it out and good bye. Didn't work, so I go back to support and they claim it's a problem with my credit card and asks me to contact my CC company. Didn't work. Next time I was told to try Paypal. Didn't work. Then they said it must be a problem with Paypal, and suggest I contact them. Didn't work. Then they tell me to attempt to purchase crysta outside using UGC. That finally worked.
Now I see that UGC is going out of business soon. GG?
I don't like to be negative, but with their poor approach to just seemingly lay the blame elsewhere when it's evidently on their end, they will no doubt lose many subscriptions, including mine (unless they can find another source like UGC.) Hopefully then they will wake up and finally address this issue with the amount of attention it deserves.
Let me begin by saying that I have been a huge SE fan since the first Final Fantasy game came out a quarter of a century ago. Final Fantasy XIV was my first experiment at playing an online Final Fantasy game and the gameplay experience has been wonderful.
That being said, SE has some major issues in other portions of their gaming system. The billing system is extremely buggy, the support page is both difficult to navigate and uninformative, and the account management system is difficult to navigate AND lacks an intuitive interface.
I have greatly enjoyed the last month of playing FFIV. I even set up an automatic renewal so that I could keep playing. When I got some time this weekend to play, I logged in and it tells me “No valid or active service account is available to play FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Real Reborn. Proper registration through the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Mog Station is required.” So I log into Mog station to see what is up. I know I set my account to auto bill my card. I even got some emails a few days beforehand warning me that it was gonna bill me. Sure enough, Mog Station says my account is kaput and needs more dough. I was really confused, so I decided to check my email. I found an email from 2 days prior.
"Thank you for using the Square Enix Account Management System. This e-mail has been sent to inform you that an error occurred when processing payment for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. As a result, automatic renewal has been suspended for your account."
Which was confusing, but I had hope! Further into the email it states the following:
"To reactivate automatic renewal, please proceed to the Account Services page in the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Mog Station."
So I go to the Account Services page to reactivate my automatic renewal. There were no links that said “Reactivate account” or “Unsuspend account” or anything even remotely similar. When I went to “Confirm Account Status” It showed that yes, I have an account, and no, it is not active. Because apparently the payment processor SE uses has major issues actually processing payments and couldn’t take my money. (Note: I attempted to use both a credit card linked to a flush bank account AND a platinum MasterCard with a $10,000 limit. Neither were successful) I went ahead and attempted to “Register” my card and renew my subscription through the secure Square Enix portal. I also attempted it directly through Mog Station. I repeatedly got errors. I thought maybe it was my ISP or the computer, so I tried it from someone else’s house, who uses a completely different ISP and a different computer. Nope. I would go all the way through the process, and then I would get errors, which brings me to the next issue:
The billing system concerns me greatly, because all I received was cryptic error messages (Error 401, Error 406, and “Site under Maintenance”) every time I tried to reactivate my account. I got these trying to renew my subscription and when I was trying to purchase Crysta. Messages like the following:
"Error An error has occurred. Please confirm the status of any relevant options and then try again. For details, please contact the Square Enix Support Center. (Error code: 406)"
And then I called my bank to ask if I have been charged. It turns out that every single time I went through the process and received this error, I got a $1.00 preauthorization charge on my account. They said that the preauth charges were approved, but then when the data got sent back to MasterCard, it somehow doesn’t make it to the company doing the preauths. Mind you, this was for a $14.99 monthly subscription, and I went through this process multiple (more than 7) times. I was sincerely hoping I didn’t get $105-$150 in “single month” billing charges on my card two days later. Fortunately, at the time I had more than sufficient funds to pay for these multiple transactions even if the full charge went through, but the big question was, why did the automated system fail to notify me that a charge had gone through on my account?
I enjoy SE games, but if their software is so buggy that it does glitch charges to my bank account and fails to notify me, then it is far too great of a risk to purchase their products. It is a known fact that people in general may complain and overall they will forgive many things, but when it reaches the point that you start screwing with their money, it becomes serious.
Even with the billing issues (which are egregious), the final and worst flaw, (and what will sink this game if it is not fixed), is the product support. From the reviews that I have read, once a person is able to actually speak/chat with a live representative, their problems are usually resolved very quickly. The big bottleneck is the inability for the customers to actually get into contact with the representatives. That is not a problem with the workers, that is a problem at the management/corporate level, and it needs addressed.
What type of Multinational Corporation only has product support for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, with no contingency for issues like billing, fraud, and accounting system problems? Especially when the product is a paid service, intended to be used 24/7 AND relies on corporate enterprise infrastructure to function? This results in customers being able to receive support less than 25% of the time that the product is actually available for use. Not a pretty picture. I’m not saying they need to make themselves available for every singly whine and complaint from users, but all it would take to alleviate much of the frustration is to have 24/7 online chat reps available to resolve serious complaints like Billing and Account issues. And they seriously need to look into expanding their Customer Support hours. Customers, by their nature, have money. Most customers get their money from jobs. Or if they don’t that money comes from kids who get it from their parents. Kids have school and most parents have jobs between 8 am and 5 pm. Most employers get pretty ticked off if their employees are playing MMORPG’s while they are at their jobs, so that means that most people don’t play the game or notice issues that need resolved during those times. Coincidentally, those times are close to the only times that SE Customer Support reps are available.
To wrap things up because I am tired and my ADD is kicking in overtime…
These issues, if left untreated, are a death knell for an online community. If a person does a search for “Square Enix Customer Support rating,” the first results should not be pages like this:
http://www.customerservicescoreboard.com/Square+Enix 35/200 satisfaction rating
http://www.gameskinny.com/atzns/squa...pport-failures Eloquent, yet scathing
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/...ry/square-enix A lot of bad press, and no rebuttals
And I don't even have words to describe what I have read on this particular forum thread.
I am sorely tempted to polish this up a bit and email it to as many Square Enix employee email addresses I can find, or barring that, maybe the bbb or something. I am just about to the "I have handed these guys the better part of a grand over the last 20+ years, I'm not giving them more" but the USERS need resolution, and the solution is that SE needs to address these problems, pronto.
So, I'm trying to reactivate and I'm getting the same error.
It's like they don't want money or something...
Has anyone with this problem found a solution? I get Error 406 if I try to pay with a credit card, and 40x if I try to Crysta and it says my Paypal account is rejected if i try to use it. Odd thing is, it works for everything else except for SE. All I've gotten from SE customer support was a generic automated response.
I'm sticking to time cards for the time being, but this problem is preventing me from buying other services (retainers, phantasia.). It's been going on for me since launch and SE claimed its a problem with my bank, but my bank said they have no issues authorizing the money, and I use it everywhere. Only problem it has is with SE.
It has been over a year and this problem still exists and SE has not done anything to solve this problem. I don't know how you expect us to pay for a sub game when methods of payment don't want to process. I am one of those many still encountering this problem and it's really frustrating. I use to have the card working for long time but now when I try to reuse the same card or a different one it's a error problem...
Will there ever be a resolution for this?
My account was fine when the game first launched and I had used my card for automatic renewal. I canceled the renewal a few months ago since I was not actively playing, but now I came back to the game and cannot resubscribe.
In fact what I am really trying to do is add Crysta to my account and I always get the 401 error. I have tried with a debit card, I have tried with a Visa gift card, I have tried with my VPN on, I have tried with the VPN off. No matter what I cannot add money to this account.
All I want is to add some Crysta and transfer servers! Why must this be so hard?!
I keep getting the error... You'd think they'd have sorted it by now seeing as so many people are having problems...
I was in the BETA trail last year, and now I want to to sign up again. I bought the PC download online, never received an e-mail with the registration codes. Been hours now, checked my bank account money was debited from my account already. I've never experienced such slow auto-email systems before. The complaints about this is are absurd and ongoing, and I can't believe there is not a fix to this yet. Someone please help all your customers. Does the auto-reply email turn off on Sat-Sun also?
I also see on the SE support dashboard, that the issue was being addressed 7/14/14. It is now 8/24/14 with same problem, or fix yet? Is global collect whats causing this error?
If you guys purchase Crysta through UltimatePay, it should work. Unless you get an error that states your card has been declined, then you should call your bank.
All this can be done on the account management site (account.square-enix.com)
Just be sure you use UltimatePay
103 pages and still theres no solution i've recruited a friend cant set up 90 days because of error 601, im only using credit card by the way i dont like the other option
You big dummy. Just have them buy two 60 day game time cards! They're a bit pricier than using the auto renewal, but it gets instantly. If you live in the states, they sell them at Best Buy's. May want to call before hand to see if they have any first, though. WalMart, too
I guess I have to quit the game. Constant 406 and 401 errors, and no customer support from 8/29-9/2...?
Guess they don't want my money, my loyalty, or my continued support. A year's worth, down the crapper. Good game, Square Enix... good game. *golf clap*
Contacted my bank. Said that it's broken on SE's side. Guess I'll look into other games while these kind of problems get ignored.
Hey guys. I too have been plagued by these two ridiculous errors ever since I moved out of the states. The only way I was able to resub before was giving someone I trust the money and having them do it for me. That being said, yesterday I was able to finally resub myself by using the extension hola(google it, i use the google chrome one but i think firefox has it too).
I hope someone else sees this and can get it to work that way too, good luck everyone.
GlobalCollect is ABSOLUTE AND UTTER GARBAGE! Over half a dozen pre-authorizations draining my account, and my bank is calling me, asking me if I want to cancel these "suspicious activities"! Just DTMFA and use a REAL and RELIABLE payment system!
Crysta is NOT an option. Game Time Cards are NOT an option. WHAT THE HELL DO I DO NOW?
This is ridiculous. I am beginning to question my commitment to this game. I bought it when I first came out and went through the packed servers ordeal, and now this. I am beyond frustrated.
Ok, I'm having this same problem. Got the game a month ago, trial ended and tried to sub.
Trying to go through all 103 pages would be a pain, so I would appreciate if someone could clarify this for me...
I tried REPEATEDLY (for the past 2 days) to sub with my credit card, buy crysta with paypal and whatnot. At this point my account should be locked from using that credit card for 30 days? or the whole account is locked from any type of payment?
I never saw the 24h wait message until I read it in the Support Center. :/
Paid last month with no issues, now today i try to re-sub and getting Error code:406, gone through SE support and even contacted my bank which said my card is fine and SE has even had successful "bank checks" im going to assume its SE side.
Had no issues last month now my fingers are crossed this gets fixed so i can get the Lightning returns event done :(
SE doesn't care. That is very clear. A problem that they themselves acknowledged almost a year ago, still has no reliable solution or fix. It is obvious that they could not care less about us, as long as they are getting their money from the rest of the player base. It feels almost useless to even try to contact customer support, because I know that if they don't have the problem fixed by now, what will my phone call do a year later? This situation is mind boggling at the least.

--------------------------------------------------General frustrated QQing--------------------------------------------------
I've been using the same credit card to Pay SE for years, yesterday I received a error 406 for the first time and I have tried multiple submissions. Exp. date, Balance etc all are fine. Husbands account is fine and uses this exact same card.
--------------------------------------------------Current steps taken--------------------------------------------------
I have called my bank
The payment I sent though is pending, meaning my bank is not blocking it and they are just waiting for the transaction to end. I DID try multiple times but the bank would not accept the duplicate payments as they are waiting on the very first one to be approved
So the first time I got the 406 it was really accepted, then my second time I got a 406 it was rejected because there is already an identical payment pending.
After contacting SE Chat support - I now have to wait approx 24 hours for a email from the finance.
After 20 hours - No word from SE... and it will be the weekend for support now so I assume I will be unable to connect for a few days T_T
As for this morning - I've bought a time card. Fine, that's a band aid.
However I am getting pretty irritated that 2 of my retainers (Which hold my Gil!) are now locked and there is no other options to pay for them except for card methods.
I am going out to purchase a pre load debit card to try pay for my retainers with it... wish me luck please
--------------------------------------------------Conclusion and Solution--------------------------------------------------
And good news... My 'Load&Go' Visa prepaid card worked - I have purchased my retainers.
Oh and to clarify, I am Australian so this may or may not work for you ^^;;;;.
EU time card bought at CJS CD Keys and 'Load&Go' VISA bought at Australia post where they keep the giftcards
Hope that info helps someone else.
--------------------------------------------------Looming threat--------------------------------------------------
I'll still be chasing this 406 because it simply should not be an issue.
Thank you for using the Square Enix Account Management System.

(Error code: 406)
#FFXIV #FFXIV406error
Why in the world is this still an issue? It's been a known situation for a YEAR now. Does SE not want customers? Our money?
I made the horrible mistake of trying to use my crysta to pay for an extra retainer, which seems to have deleted my credit card information from my account. Now, while trying to add it back in, I'm getting the 406 error. I'm seriously, seriously pissed.
Yeah. Same issue here. Made more laughable by trying to contact support only to have the form keep telling me my email address is formatted improperly. It is not I assure you. Also, my account was due to go through on the 18th...thats in four days. My account /WHICH WAS STILL IN THE GREEN/ is now shut down and I can't find a valid way to get it working. Also, there are now floating 1 dollar charges on my account. Thanks. Imagine how exhilarated I was to find out this is a year old issue.
UPDATE:
Does anyone have a solution to work around this? I tried making an ultimate pay account and I can't even figure out what that site is or is trying to do. Im not given hope by the overlapping text etc on their create an account page. I noticed a paypal option, tried that. It all processed, all says confirmed but no one is charging my card and I still have no crysta to use to subscribe. This is desk throwing levels of irritating right now.
UPDATE:
Well after a 20 min delay and trying twice, the crysta finally worked. Only now I was technically shorted the four days my account was still good for, support form still doesn't work and Im wondering if I'll be forced to buy crysta every month to keep playing. *fumes under thrown desk*. You'd think, I don't know, getting paid would be a priority. Pardon the sass, but I'm a bit cranky spending several hours on a Sunday working around a busted system. Long busted, may I remind you Square. However using paypal to buy crysta, to pay for the sub does seem to work. If not in a long, meandering fashion.
So here I sit, trying to subscribe with the very same card that I used to buy the game with no issue.
Error 601.
I assume it's because I live in Germany but keep all of my bank affairs in my home country of Denmark.
Should I just give up on playing FF14 ever again, or is this problem actually being fixed on a per-account basis?
EDIT:

QUOTE: Additionally, these errors will occur if you are not currently in the country where your card was issued.
This means that Square-Enix happily took my money for the game itself, but now that it comes time to subscribing and actually getting my money's worth (because let's face it, the first month in an MMO is learning how it works), they flip me the bird.
Well SCREW YOU GUYS. This is nothing short of fraud. Either my money is good enough or not, this half-and-half is just pathetic.
What a shame that this issue is still on-going for over a year now..
I was able to use my cc for doing a world transfer but right after its giving me error 406 for renewing my subscription.. SE you need to fix your billing system..
