Additionally, we know full well that they're working on it.

The endless repetition risks causing the real requests to get lost in the noise.

I hope when the contest hairstyles are added, they start with the short ones so they're "out of the way" and then focus on all the longer ones. I say this because I want the short hairstyles but don't want to wait till 10.5 for them lol

Considering how much everyone complains about a little clipping here and there it's no surprise they don't add long hairstyles more often.

People who don't like clipping are going to avoid at all costs what items/glams/hairs clip; and there are many many short hairstyles, more short/ medium length than long to satisfy them. While I believe we need a larger variety of hairstyles, I do think we don't have enough long hairs. They don't even have to be long tresses like Gaia's hair, but they can be braids, buns, side swoops, etc that are done better than what we've been given - but people who want long hairs can overlook most clipping; it boils down to the devs on making long hairstyles work better.

It does feel like though the players who always want short hairs are ordering for the entire table, regardless of what the other players want. Similar to the Viera hair situation, there were players who understood they can have completely new hairstyles along with the modern aesthetic hairstyles, but the loudest players didn't want that & only the already existing hairs added along with the modern aesthetics were added. And now we have a plethora of hairs for Viera which is great but it's very obvious 90% of those hairs don't fit nor were made for Viera & look very awkward. I wish I could go to an alternate reality of ffxiv where we would have gotten entirely new hairs for Viera + the modern aesthetics.

I'd like that the hairstyles that are bound to specific face shapes on Hrothgars are made available to all other face shapes.
In my case, I'd like that the hairstyles from face shapes 2 and 4 are made available to face shape 1.

Actually, no, better than that, it would be great if they made all race-specific (and face shape specific) hairstyles available to everyone.

I'm happy that they've started to add "normal" hairstyles to Hrothgars, but most of the time they feel out of place or "glued on", like they're wigs or something. They don't fit well with the race's aesthetic in my opinion.
More scraggly/messy hair and stuff like braids feel more appropriate, and short buns as well maybe? Mid-length hairstyles feel like a sweet spot for Hrothgar.
Now that I think about it, I wonder why they never made a "bald" hairstyle for Hrothgar. I feel like having no hair at all would work just fine on a feline race if you're aiming for a less leonine look.

All I'm saying is that if I were developing a video game and its community requested long hairstyles, then bitched about clipping every time I added one, I would add them very infrequently if at all.

The only way around that is to either stick to short hairstyles, make all chest pieces boring and flat, or implement a robust physics engine with full collision detection that would blow up all the toasters most people are running this game on the second they step into a populated area.

If the community can accept that clipping is unavoidable and quit whining incessantly about it you'd probably see the devs be much less apprehensive about adding long hairstyles.

The simple truth is there are as many actually long hairstyles as there are actually short ones, that is to say... 6, 7? (not counting racial hairstyles) - we're in dire need of both so there's no need to pit ourselves against each other with this long vs short argument when the true enemy is medium length.

I don't really care if it's short, medium, long or even if I end up hating them... just give us different hair types!

Almost everything is straight or slightly wavy hair. I don't think we need yet another "male anime protagonist" style, for example - and ironically there's a few in the new batch of style winners from the contest. But at the very least we have different hair types.

I don't disagree at all with what you're saying & you're not wrong! -

I often wear the Lyse ponytail because it's somewhat near the length of my irl hair & has bangs- I want to see more hairstyles with bangs but also a counterpart with no bangs; wavy hair, braids etc.
I know in a recent interview, idr which one specifically but yoshi-p said they were all working on improving the "hair mapping" and how it falls as well as other fabrics and loose armors/fabrics (i dont remember if he said cloth or what but it was along those lines)

I'd like it on Viera too

I want long hairstyles, and hairstyles that basically insinuate a long hairstyle, like a lovely double wrapped chignon or a thick halo braid for example.
Im kind of over the choppy mullets & stringy overgrown bowl cuts, which leads me to another note- better short hairstyles that actually give the notion that the WoL can actually style their hair. Right now most of the hairstyles are very 'safe' & rather boring.
We just need wider customisation & variety in hairstyles, texture (curly, wavy, coily, frizzy) & coiffures.

Idk what the holdup with Hildas hair is, tbh? It has been requested for YEARS? It has been modded and moved to every race at this point and it actually looks GOOD. We have gotten other npcs hairstyles. I am so confused as to why not this one....?

I wonder that too. Her outfit is already available so there's not much sense in selling it as a bundle, but it seems like a perfectly good option to add as an in-game reward like they did with Ambitious Ends and The Bold And The Braid.

Hydaelyn hair is amazing!

Hythlodaeus, Hilda, Hydaelyn, Estinien, Hades (omg a lot these names begin with H!) Also Tifa & Garnet's hair or a variant mix of both that keep the length. i don't mind clipping and a great way over it is by making the hair thick & float a little, bc lesbereal, they love to float hairs off of shoulders and backs so i don't see a problem with it.

short hairs can be beautiful. but according to the creative side in this game, they can only be flat or anime spiky with a silly single bang and they're not styled; they just sit there, flat. and none of them are textured or interesting. i know some of these can be triggering for highlander & roe male players since they include eyebrows & full facial hair.

The lack of facial hair in a game that has so much popularity just annoys me. We can have weird looking facial hair that doesn't connect between the mustache and beard or almost none at all. I have more options to put makeup on my male characters than facial hair! Its disgusting. I want to play a Roe that has great beard options and instead we get flying moons or Easter Bunny Egg hats.

WE NEED FULL FACIAL HAIR, BIG HANDSOME BEARDS

The FFXVI crossover event and Clive's model have shown that beards are possible. We need way more beard options for all the face types of males of all races.

Beards are always possible. Clive does have it because it is an unique NPC model.

The problem, at least to what it seems on surface, is that current character models are limited in the number of 'customization slots' that aren't hairstyles or face paints. Why I say that? We got the stubble people asked for so long in one race.

Yet, when you go through it, you realize that in order to do that, they had to duplicate one of the midlander male faces and have the stubble permanent. Why they would do all that if the most logical way would be just to add the stubble as an option? Because all of the customization slots for face features are full. Imagine if they deleted the 1.0 tattoo for that lol.

I'm all for more and cohese customization options for everyone, but I feel that they need first to improve the foundations of the character creation, which is not something the graphics update will do. IIRC they vaguely mentioned they'd look into this in the future. When? Who knows...

I wouldn't hold my breath on the devs updating character creator- people have asked for such changes for years (more faces/ improving character creator) and nothing has come of it.
Hence, why I think many people have turned to outside options.
They also said they'd look into increasing item slots for housing and making ward specific house cosmetics actually customizable but that hasn't happened either & it's been radio silence since.
I'm sure people have asked, but xiv team probably dodge repeated questions.

They keep citing clipping issues...

With all that said, I wonder how/why Midlanders can have 7 face options and everyone else is stuck with only 4. Unless it greatly stresses the servers or coding, I'm sure a lot of people would like whole new face models to be added.

PS: I haven't seen anything about it, but I'm praying to the Twelve the graphic update gives Highlanders eyebrows at last...or at least make the face paint not look so smeared so we can pretend they're eyebrows.
