"If you want to dps go play a dps" is no longer a valid response after countless threads of "please give us more engaging gameplay than spamming one button for 10 minutes" followed by countless examples of high end content requiring barely any healing.

You are completely missing the point because you're reacting to a statement nobody ever made.
Nobody said "I want to play healer so I can dps".
Fact is, and you can try to deny it all you want, that we are forced to chose between doing nothing and dpsing the majority of the time because all content, including Ultimate, doesn't have a healing requirement that is high enough to spend the majority of our time healing.
We always have signifcant downtime in all content and all we can do during that downtime is 1111 ad nauseum.
When people ask for more dps options they don't do it because they secretly want to play dps; that is nonsense some people make up just so they can throw "just go play dps hehe" in our faces. They do it because they want to play healer, they want to heal but they have simply accepted that the devs absolutely refuse to increase healing requirement.
So how else are we supposed to fill our downtime? Picking our noses? Doing our nails? Watching our potted plants grow? More dps options is the only option we have left to ask for.

Excuse me sweaty, it sounds like you just want to DPS and I believe healers should HeAL OnLY. Of course I DPS in the two GCDs I can barely find during an entire MSQ solo duty, nobody's saying you shouldn't deal damage at all but you should also be healing. I know you said you heal your party and are bored afterward, but you shouldn't be bored because you should be healing after you're done healing, duh.

If people want to heal when not needed or not dps at all as healer, the answer has always been there, tank or dps role. You're wasting a healer slot if you refuse to use your full toolkit to support the party. Go play dps if you want to tunnel vision on one thing.

i play sage it has enough dps buttons for me no issue with it cause of oh toxi phelgma and that 90 thingy i didnt say i just heal only.i both heal and dps equally but i wont repeat this over 1000 times cause did already over tons of times. I just play the game that is 12 years old and stop complaining and accept what it is. I just sit now and lol over the same 10k+ healer complains wanting more dps. I doubt any healer raiding will seriously just sit there and heal..thats ofc a instant boot

What do you think players have been doing for years now? The devs don't give a shit or deliberately twist questions to give non-answers in their Q&As. Players ask for more outgoing damage in raids so they can heal more? It will overwhelm lower skilled players. Players want more DPS options to fill in the downtime? Bad Healers will get harassed for not using their kit because adding an extra DoT is so difficult for these Slyphies. Players want to feel more engaged playing their Job? Tough shit, Healers have been designed to be the basic bitch role that cannot fail in order to reduce stress for the bad players and to attract people that literally don't even like Healer anyways. Players are bored as shit with Glare spam? Go do Ultimate, it's totally fine there /s. So yeah, players have been telling the devs, and the the response has been either silence or the middle finger.

I started tanking in EW because of queues. I enjoy both, so its no biggie for me.
I expect healing and tanking will level out by 2023 and i'll split my time between healing and tanking.
DPS I've basically given up on. I'm not gonna wait 20 minutes for a queue. If I want big numbers that bad I'll just play DRK

Ex-AST player. By which I mean, since the start of HW, I used to have only AST at max level: Give up. It's over. Yoshi's remark was nothing short of flippant and the dev team's perspective on how healers should be played is clearly going to be enforced on all. That role only belongs to the sylphies now. It pains me to say, but if they want healers to be only playable by people with two brain cells? I'm sadly an owner of three and I hope most of you have more than that as well.

Anyways, I'm gonna go back with my friends and complete content with light parties consisting of 3 DPS' and 1 Tank or, if we do big stuff, 2 Tanks and a lineup of SMN's. Because healers are literally just mediocre SMN's and RDM's.

I loved ast so much in stormblood, hated the card changes in 5.0 (also dont like the sleeve draw change I liked the speediness of it) but stuck with ast and then the 6.0 changes made me drop the job completely and I swapped to scholar for savage. But as I said in another thread my eyes now just glaze over when healing even in savage at this point. It's just so boring to do. At this point I am barely playing so I hope to enjoy 6.1 story.. I have decided this tier is my last as a healer and I will swap to dps where I hope I can find the fun in fights again.

The ire I hear from main healers in recent months (a year? maybe?) is that some statics/PUGs or even pick up runs tend to ask or push healers into pushing more and more damage than to focus on their main role of keeping the party alive. As someone who heals with mainly WHM or AST, I find I can weave in damage and DOTs in between keeping the tank alive from tank busters but I feel I am nowhere near a pro DPS healer as I am more so focused on making sure the entire group is alive.

For me I can't focus on 3-4 different things at once. My main focus is to make sure tanks survive tank busters, the group lives thru multiple AOEs and mitigate damage as best I can - while throwing down some damage/DOTs in the middle.

I think healer burnout is a real thing.

Oh my lol. But it does not bother me, If i get bored to heal I just switch to rdm if am dps hungry easy fix. Also finally I do not run out of resources as sage unless its maybe dark night with their crummy lack of defensive kit. I do not recall saying I have a resource management problemwhat if I wanna press toxicon, maybe I just am tired of looking at the diamonds and wanna build them back up, its at the end of the day you play something you want for fun, not to satisfy others all the time. healers will never ever dps any actual dps unless that dps is new and dies every 5 seconds. why dont we ask devs then to make tanks and dps have (not counting smn/rdm) have big heals shields res spells and everything then, maybe do a final fantasy 12 thing be a duo job that the only thing I can think of lol.

Yep stormblood ast was the best as soon as EW took away stances and we kept the same boring shadow bringers system cards but 10x worst i just toss my star globe immediately and hop on sage, its really sad, but you know alot of ungrateful people found stormblood ast too over whelming to play it seem so it got bruised into a worthless copy clone full whm with yawn 5%/8% single dps cards.

Remember back when HW was released, the developers explicitly said that Ast and Drk were for higher skill players? funny how that has come crashing down

My enthusiasm depleted for healing as I keep getting warriors for 4 man content and they are too broken and content far too lenient for me to do my job and 8 man content where I’m not a healer but a babysitter praying for someone to screw up with far as hell raid wides and putrid tank busters

Then tried savage and learned it’s STILL STILL doesn’t requires much after the initial clear. If everyone knows their mechanics in left spamming Glare.

What I've noticed recently is that the quality of healers have also gone down significantly. Every healer just spams their medica 2 equivalent after every raid wide/mech and not use their overabundance of ogcs. Mind you this is in savage not normal content so they have had time to learn. I've also been recruiting for my static and I can not find any healers lol. I'm probably going to be forced to heal cause we can't find any healers and pf healers are so bad.

95% healer 5% dps play fyi my gear explains alot and its a problem if i want to play another job? so you are allowed play dps and I cant is what your saying, how ironic, you can always unsub now if your upset about long dps queues no one is stopping u. Reality check I dont play dps in solo queues period I only play dps with trust system or with friends. 100% healer all the time for solo queues.

I've noticed that for years. Whenever I'm not healing, I always seem to get those terrible healers that drove me up a wall with how incompetent they were and it's been getting worse and worse each expansion. It's just currently at a fever pitch because vet healers are so fed up with the current asinine design philosophy of healers that they're quitting, hence this entire thread. The classes that we once loved have become hollow shells of their former self that a lot of us just stopped bothering with it so there's no one left to take up the mantle anymore. It feels more like a punishment to play healer than it does an engaging class to master because the only thing really to master is memorizing the pattern that the enemy uses so you can sit there spamming 1111111 until the duty is done.

I would sit in hour long queues if it meant I had more to do than Spam Glare for 8 minutes.

I haven't said you're not allowed to, I just said it's not a solution to the problem. It just causes more problems.
Also funny you mention trusts because i literally fell asleep leveling SCH through that system.

yup all trust lvl 90, its actually fun sometimes moving slower on a dungeon than rushing it, as dps you can fairly still move fast if urianger is the healer cause his regens are busted, alphi cant manage big pulls however and strangely his sage role is worst than his sch role, his sage shields do not crit and he lacks ogc heals it seem compared to his sch job. this is the one time i vote sch to be good cause alphi was a op sch. Alphi sage needs some buffing, glad they at least gave alisaie back flip as in shadow bringers she didnt use that and would eat them oranges real quick.

My last savage tier as a healer main, sad to see. Gonna try a melee dps to main going forward. Waiting to see what changes they make to monk and choose between reaper/sam/monk

No, in fact, I heal more as a White Mage. I'd argue more Healers have quit to become Sages as I do not consider them real healers anyways. Every time we get a Sage in our Party I pray we have a Red Mage or Paladin because they are much better healers then Sages and at least Red Mages has revive and make up for the Sage being a horrible DPS class that they should of just made a DPS like a Bard.

Where is this wonderland you're seeing WHMs healing more in decent gameplay performance?

In the same place that RDM are better Healers than SGE apparently. I've seen some god awful healers and it's usually the WHM more than SCH/AST and even SGE

I was never a healer main but I used to played scholar pretty regularly. Not anymore. The only healer I can stand to play is sage and that’s just because it has something almost resembling a rotation. And even then, I only play it when expert roulette queue will be more than 10 minutes. All healers need a rework imo

It’s more or less the problem that people think whm is the easy baby healer but that’s so not true just because all the other healer have way better ogcds on a short cooldown and also people like instant ques plus a free carry a lot of times.

I don’t think a hard rework is necessary but at-least way more stuff too do in downtime. Pressing the 1 key over 150 times a fight isn’t fun and I doubt more then 5 % of the player base enjoy this kind of gameplay. Like I was a healer main since arr and after seeing how they effectively took out all the joy from stormblood going into shadowbringer, I forced myself to play shadowbringer as healer (it broke the 1 key on my keyboard twice in the entire expansion) and now I’m on meele and I actually feel emotions like joy and fun when I play. And I actually try too go for the 99 logs as meele we’re I never bothered in shadowbringer ( before shadowbringer I also never did raid ff 14 as week one and stuff, but I did the ultimates as they were actual content)

Honestly, my bar is set so low by now that a WHM is basically a god if they don't heal me with Cure I spam post ARR, occasionally stumble on their Holy button in dungeons (or let their cat walk over it, I don't care) and use an oGCD or two.
Because that's more than the majority of WHMs did that I had in PF for P1s/ P2s or in DF when spamming SB dungeons. I still have screenshots of WHMs only using their ARR skills in P1s... except Bene of course, because that one would be useful.

Had a glance at your Pandemonium kills on a certain website. Since you're a tank, I filtered it to party Mitigation and Absorbs.

It's actually amazing how many bad whms there are. I've seen maybe 1 or 2 good whm since End Walker dropped. I'm glad whm is being catered to these horrible players :)

Always mained healers but kept swapping between them. In EW I decided to main AST as it has the most interesting and playful oGCDs, card micromanagement and also the most damage oGCDs (lolwhy?)

I found it quite entertaining and actually hard to execute perfectly. Playing the correct cards exactly into burst windows, knowing which jobs to prioritise in what order, reopener feeling like playing a piano masterpiece, not using lightspeed for movement cos its required for reopener, RNG being against me and giving shitty cards or only ladies....Plus people would randomly fuck up mechanics and needed a quick recovery... And that on repeat for each prog try/weekly kill. I must say it was exhausting :) And for what? Hardly catching up to Sage's rDPS who was yawning bored pressing his 1111, very unrewarding...

I will probably try samurai now as it seems the difficulty in optimization is still high but at least I get a break from babysitting mistakes of others and finally see some big numbers.

I still quite like the difficulty of AST tho I am sad its not rewarded by being top DPS, I guess it would be too powerful combined with the strong healing kit, no mana management and... Macrocosmos
