Thank you, Alicia-Florence and SashaCouen! And thank you to everyone for being so cool in this thread, and for keeping it going! Siobu, thank you for giving a voice to this issue. Thank you putting into words what so many of us felt but couldn't quite express. And thank you to all of you who took the time to translate for this thread! I don't know French or German, but I spent some time in Reinheart's Japanese thread, and it was excellent. It was really wonderful to see the outpouring of support for this issue in the Japanese community and to feel the sense of unity it created. Finally, thank you community reps for taking the time to address this issue.
I don't know what the future holds for the Eorzea redesign, but I feel much better knowing that the dev team is going to make the effort to make this a world worth exploring. Hopefully one day I'll be able to log in and run across an ever-changing landscape to someplace distant, where I'll take a screenshot just to prove I was there. I look forward to finding adventure in this world.
Glad to see a response saying there are at least designs in motion... Also the goblin is happy to welcome some of our Japanese friends to our forums to show their support!
This just turned into a bilingual bloodfest!

Thank you, Rane! Glad to have you along. :)
I'm so glad that this thread was so helpful to many across all boards!
New Dungeon areas look OK.
Bigger Chigoes and big fish.
MMmmmmmm
Bring on the Rapture and destroy this pathetic world that was built by the original team. The game needs to be redesigned! They completely ruined it from the start. I Agree with the OP COMPLETELY. This game has no progression, no sense of accomplishment at all. I stopped leveling higher then level 35 because its the SAME SHIT OVER AND OVER. The only mild amount of enjoyment i got out of this game is playing the different classes, but now that i have them all at like 25+ im bored to tears. i explored the entire world when my toon was only level 30. EVEN MOR DONAH! This game needs a complete overhaul from the starting zones on, because without a solid beginning to this game no one will stick around to see the rest of it once SE starts making us pay for this sad excuse of a meaningless grind festival.
Don't get me wrong i tried to love this game i REALLY wanted to, but from day 1 its been nothing but a dissappointment. If you ask me they should have just kept everything from FFXI the same, created a new world, new quests, new story and new economy. You want to know why everyone compairs this game to FFXI? BECAUSE THEY DID IT RIGHT!!! Everyone that plays this game that played FFXI misses it. YOU KNOW YOU DO! ^^
I doubt they're going to overhaul *everything*, but I think some of the changes may be coming soon. Reposting this from the Dungeon thread ( http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l=1#post190099 ):
Quote:
About Tinolqa, Tinolqa looks to be the Japanese name for the Black Shroud region itself. I don't want to get overly optimistic, but I'm thinking that they may have started using the English name because the pending apocalypse may be soon.
I wonder. Can the map rebuild be hurried along with the help of the community? I mean, Valve has community-made contributions all over the place in Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead, and I don't imagine that FFXIV's fanbase is any less talented.
I do not want to create false hopes, but we finally got a dev post in ther French forums, and it clearly says the following:
The English post was kinda vague, so I think it's good news that the dev specified "new maps". I feared that it could be only minor tweaks to the current map with changes in ennemy distribution.Quote:
As soon as the new maps will be finished, we'll shre them with you!
Thanks for the update, Chinook! 'New maps' is very, very interesting and a little different from what the other posts had said.
I'm glad the French thread got a response, I'll add it to the front page. :)
Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned that it is actually possible for people on the Lodestone forums to come to an agreement on something, and even be persistent enough to get a response from the developers! I guess you were right after all.
Your faithful student,
Twilight Sparkle
Wow... i mean, just wow. I'm amazed this thread grew to this length with so much innovative input. Loving the mapped out diagrams everyone has made. Great skills, great compilation of ideas. SE has the perfect opportunity to use this 6th-7th age disaster to their advantage for a complete redesign of the zones. Gridania I'm lookin at you... you labyrinth of copy/pasted monotany. SE please, less labyrinth (leave the labyrinths to the dungeons), more open design with well-distributed tree/brush clutter (i.e. bamboo forest, redwoods, treehouses, think Skyrim) and COLORS for goodness sake, forests don't have to only be green.
Hell. Yes.
Nuke the current maps. From orbit.
I guess Yoshi has written something about the maps in the JP forum, maybe someone could translate that?
I'm very interestet in what Yoshi told ^^
Link to Yoshis answer is here.
Here's a Link. Oh wait, Meph's is probably more topical.
So, if what translate.google tells me is accurate, everything needs to be fixed at once so we'll see the 1-50 adjustment at the same time as we get new maps. It'll take a long time but we'll get a ton of changes all at once when they're ready.
Best thing about YoshiP's post is how they're trying to incorporate city to city airship transportation in time for patch 1.19.
This is going to be great. I'm also excited that the Airships won't just be flying "over" the map like they did in FFXI. Though I still kind of hope for a cool CS every time you take off/land. Always gave the game a better feel which I think the Airships in FF deserve.
Hi Reinheart,
More great news! :)
This is another official confirmation of the upcoming major changes to all 3 Starter Regions. :) I'm excited to see how the maps are going to change.
Also, it's nice that they're adding new content to incentivize people to go to Limsa and Gridania more often.
And of course, AIRSHIPS! (^_^) /joy!
I can't wait! :)
Wait what does that mean? They won't be flying over the map. XI airships flew over a fake map right? This mean XIV's airships will be flying over the real world?
They want you to be able to see a beautiful real time vista from the airships :D
They want your computers to explode so they can have time to fix the game in peace in quiet D:
Jokes aside this is pretty good news!
Yes definately agree FFIv is stale, the large zones with many different level mobs and bland art backdrops after the long stretches of running through same looking canyon, forests, palins, etc.
If u want to use a template for comparison in XI when u finally made your long run to jueno at lvl 20, didnt matter which starter city u began each zone (i.e. Rolanberry fields, la Thiene Plateau, Tahrongi Canyon) looked, felt, sounded different. not just from point A(Windy) to B(Jueno) but every of the 3 paths from Main city to jueno was unique, not to mention the dungoens insides those zones(i.e. Dangruf Wadi, Inner horroto ruins, Crawlers nest etc.).
Flying over the real world is a great thing if that is what he's saying. Leaves room for so many possibilities. Perhaps on occasion flying monsters will attack. Could even have beast tribe training flying monsters to carry them up and drop them on board for an attack/robbery.... or something.
Sadly this comes down to such a trivial thing as perception.
The game DOES have adventuring and variance throughout landscape.
The design implementation used by the crew of XIV is seen as ideal for many current day MMO designers. They believe that the One World design with minimal loading zones (blackscreen loads) improves the depth of immersion for the majority of today's current playerbase.
Also, there are more than 4 zones; and YES they will expand.
Let me ask you this, Have you ever taken time to really REALLY look at the game's overworld maps?
If you did you would see that there infact exists MANY other zones AND cities, and coincidentally they are liken to FFXI's environment: There's a Ice place like Xarcabard, there's a tropical jungle with a Volcano like Khazam, there's a beach/peninsula type place like Mhaura. That's only to name a few.
My point is: This is a common thing amongst players in the game. FEW of them know the Lore and hidden secrets of Eorzea because they haven't taken the time to even READ the ingame tomes OR even external maps the game shipped with!
So naturally, you say to yourselves: Well it's not there on a plate with big blinking lights pointing it out for me so therefore it doesn't exist.
Square Enix expects more from you all as fans of the Final Fantasy series. They should NEVER have to water down gameplay and immersion in order to give players a Easy Ride. That's just not how it's done at all.
In closing: There is A LOT more to this game than most people know. All it requires is EXPLORING the Guilds and landscape to figure this out.
(This game IS NOT FFXI. FFXI was built for OLD hardware and software and a crippled Network for MMo play. THAT is why it was designed how it was. Balancing. FFXIV is more modern and thus follows a more up to date trend of what companies have seen players like more. Open World seemless zones.)
Good Luck adventuring in Eorzea :)
Hokay. I'm going to snip out the parts that are completely unrelated to the topic at hand or patronizing assumptions.
Okay, I guess I left the patronizing assumptions in. But basically you argue that a) nobody has ever explored Eorzea except you and b) things that aren't in the game totally exist.
Let's talk about ice fields and volcanoes. Where are they? How do you get to them? You make us out to be strawmen and say we deny their existence because they're not served to us on a plate, but our argument is a lot simpler: we deny their existence because they do not actually exist. Unless the zones are in the game, they are not in the game.
You contend that the lore is whatever shipped in the box. Well, that's nice, but my box didn't have a map in it. It had an empty book. Let's see, I flip it open to page 47 and... no icefields. Let's turn to page 24 and yep, no volcano.
The argument in this thread is that the zones are monotonous and poorly developed. This is not an argument of whether X exists, but how good X is or is not. There's no room for imaginary icefields or magical nonexist volcanoes in this discussion.
When I want a thrilling experience that only exists in my mind, I read a book.
When I want a lush virtual world, I play an MMO.
I'm glad S-E agrees with the rest of us strawmen and is revamping the map. The last thing we want is for Yoshi-P to come to us and say "1.18 introduces jumping, also the floor is lava."
(actually that would be pretty cool)
Thanks Caerith, i really didn't have the patience to respond to that one and it needed a response, well done.
O whut uall havnt siin iccfeelds? hururgu CLICKIE
Yea a redesign would solve a lot of those problems. Monster placement, boring repetitive environments, gameplay pacing, and the long travel times. It just has become more of a standard to have zones for monsters, and while trying something different isn't bad its just that this creates many problems within the game. I know it would require tons of work, but it will be more of a challenge to convince me that 1-50 zones are better.
