Why do people want Blue Mage in this game?

And this is not including the complaining from other classes that the summoner can sit in the other side of the arena, suck his thumb and still do comparable damage to the other dps. Give them buffs as well? It'll be Bard from 2.0 all over again. Where the best composition for coil was Tank, Tank, Healer, Healer, Brd, Brd, Brd and a mêlée only for limit break.

Only if his pet is doing as much work as the other dps. If the summoner's whole job revolved around controlling his summon, then that's what he'd have to be doing. There would be no more Sic or Obey. Every single skill the summon does would have to be directly commanded by the Summoner. It wouldn't perform any skills on its own, and its only AI would be to follow its summoner unless told otherwise. For the player, controlling the summon's skills would replace controlling the summoner's ones.

My only issue with blue mage being added, is basically a lot of the "iconic" skills bluemage has, are already in the game or just wouldnt work the way people would want it to.
Mightyguard and white wind are both limitbreaks in the game already.
Bad breath wouldn't be an aoe debilitating ability, it would end up just being a damage nuke. and if it was used for debuffs it would be completly useless in actual content because all bosses are immune to pretty much everything.

I want it to work because its such a cool concept, but i feel like it just won't be what people asked for and then people will be dissapointed.


now if its made as a tank class thats like a mage i would be all for it. something unique.

DRK got DD to do not have something too overpowered, since another flat dmg reduction cooldown woudl be too much.

DRK can buff their healing potency with DA. You said about buffing healing so first thing got in my mind regardless this topic was incoming heals from outside sources. My mistake if you meant self-healing buffing only.
Ninja is antimage on Pvp then. He has Ill Wind making stuff silenced for 3 sec. :P nope. Ninja is not antimage, drk not as well, come on. If 200k players starts calling PLD shitty tank it doesnt mean it's truth. You are better than this, you are BLM!

LD can easily survive the hit as well >.> Homgang requires you to spend a lot of healing as well, to do not let WAR die just when Holmgang effects ends. LD gives you 10 sec, Holmgang do not, mind that! Clemency can be interrupted. I learned it myself.
Traits for DRK are first thing i would like to see changed, so i have no intention of saying, that Procing low blows is not a pain. But RNG exist in the whole game, for others tanks as well, so its not really important.
Storm's Path is hardly used, but i quess you are right. It is still something someone would do, despite the fact, WAR is lowering his dmg output quite much by using SP each two comboses. Which is lowering his efficiency as dps, thats why it is hardly used.

Naaaaay... Having full mana almost all the time? dont forget about cards, potions... Mages ballad. If there is no need for Foes, Ballad is beeing played for healers. If you had infinite mana, woudn't you spend it all the time? 400 attack potency for literally each combo? + 250 30 sec colldown oGCD? That would be a lot of dps, really i am saying it would be same as drg.

Last sentence was mean, you really triggered me, so i had no intention of making you feel like i discard you as DRK.
But you can't expect too much from the class that was supposed to be something between PLD and WAR. While having no utility, it really allows for smooth gameplay + solid OT dps. + solid AoE for Trash pulls ,which each trail has some.
If DRK had both high dmg and utility that do not lower their dps like WAR's, there would be debates, if DRK is not "1st" tank. Since even if little lower, there is no dps penalty for using utility.

My problem with Blue Mage, is that blue magic in FF games doesn't have a specific function, so it's really...too broad I guess?

Like, black magic is always harmful, white magic is light based and mostly healing, but blue could be anything so there's really no way the dev team could limit it to one role and still make people happy.

Also, on an unrelated note, am I the only one who thinks people need to just not compare XIV to other FF games? Even comparing it to XI is silly at this point.

Yeah, let's keep copy-pasting them. Let me not ask for a mage. Again, love this community, asking for some variation yet unable to think of something different. Also, and just for the record, mages don't need to wear long robes, and a mage's shield can literally shit on a heavy plate armor any day of the week. So please.

There's a reason why jobs like SMN is dot-focused rather than pet-only caster and why DRK isn't a "health as a resource" job: because as far as THIS game goes, some past incarnations of jobs are simply not mechanically practical. Sure, SMN could be more pet-oriented and have more commands and abilities for the pet (especially now that SMN has a somewhat engaging rotation now), but you have to realize that a pet-only job with a pet out of commission is a useless job, which is why devs felt more comfortable placing more power on the character than on the pet.

As for DRK using health for a resource, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you hate people who want to play healers? Seriously, because that's what you're saying when you claim that this is what you want. It makes healers suffer and/or panic because your health gets spikier than the tank's health, and you can't really say "it has self-healing to offset it" because in order to make that whole mechanic balanced in XIV, that means an average or low-geared DRK would have to beat the best geared WARs in self-healing. Sure, DRK is still clearly a work-in-progress, but griping and moaning about old traditions of past games does absolutely nothing to make it work in this game.

Coming back to the primary topic, BLU will be no different. It won't have the Learn ability like how you remember it from whatever "good ol' days" FF game you sleep at night with. It won't have that grand encyclopedia of every trainable monster skill at its disposal. It will however be something inspired by all those past FF games and brought in so that it's fun and appealing while still being balanced and fitting properly within the confines of this game. And that's a good thing.
