On another note: Tanks wearing slaying accessories. In Expert Roulette. With the bare essentials of ilvl 230 fending gear. I'm sorry, but there is only so much Quelling Strikes can do. Alright, so this zurvan nm argument is multiple pages long, I just wanted to drop in and offer my opinion as a healer main. As credentials, I'm orange in DPS on every primal except two, where I'm purple, and I'm orange in healing for 3 of the 4 primals (sephirot and up) that were relevant starting from when I hit 60. I'm purple in most raid content, but would be higher if I had ever found a group for it. If you look them over you'll notice that I have far fewer uploaded logs for savage than I do for primals. However, I do hold 14th place among all WHM worldwide healing records for A11S.

The only reason I'm saying any of that is to stress that I am a healer main, and I do know my stuff, just so that lunaxia can't use the same out of "don't say something about a role you know nothing about".

Anywho. Those healers in that zurvan NM were absolute trash. Nothing about their play was admirable. Period. When you push the limits of dps, you never ever neglect your primary role. To do so means you're a bad healer. Forcing the tank to 5% hp and then continuing to dps is neglecting your primary role. Not raising people who have died due to you neglecting your primary role is also neglecting your primary role. Having to be told to heal by the DPS who just got killed when both tanks are down is just bottom of the barrel.

They're not admirable at all. They're lazy and/or conceited, only caring about personal numbers. I've met the type before; they think they're great healers because they get 99% damage numbers, but they neglect to heal, assuming their partner is going to do it. They have inflated senses of self-ego in having high-ranking damage, and they do it on a healer class because it's so much easier to worry about 6 buttons for a dps rotation than it is to play an actual DPS properly. They want those great healer DPS numbers because they honestly suck at dealing damage on any other class. They're not pushing healer dps, their pushing their egos. And their egos are coming at a cost of their primary role.

Bottom line is, healer dps should only be pushed when you're not neglecting your primary role. These healers were 100% neglecting their primary role, and there is nothing about them to defend. I would 100% prefer a healer who only heals to a healer who only does dps.

Thank you. You said everything i wanted to say but didn't have have the energy to phrase properly.

I've tanked and healed that fight, normal mode and extreme. And there's just no excuse, to me, for a healer to let tanks die as they have been.

I did trial roulette earlier this week with my co tank and we were both pretty shocked when the healers let him die to the final Tyrfing. It wasn't as bad as the other person's account, I picked Zurvan up right away and they raised my co tank right away, we cleared, okay nothing to complain about.

That other story? Definitely something to complain about. That kind of thing causes tanxiety for Duty Finder content.

People seem pretty on edge here lately. We have a lot of stuff to be excited about and a lot of change coming. Let's try to give our neighbors and duty finder the same kind of grace we would want them to give us, shall we?

I'm not defending their behaviour as being good healers. I just don't see the cause for hysteria because they pushed damage and made some mistakes. I prefer that to lazy healers any day. They didn't only DPS either, the party made it through, so calm down with the pitchforks.

It's the only reason I see for just repeating what other users have already said, only with "BUT A11S" tacked on. I get it. DPS-happy is bad, lazy healers better, etc. etc. etc.

That's the bad part. She's shown she doesn't care and would rather you leave her alone. You're basically forcing your ideas onto her, no matter if you're intentions are good or bad. I commend you for attempting to help, but you went way too far.

Edit: I just wanted to also say everyone should try to help, but if people aren't receptive to it there's not much you can do. Instead of arguing with them either vote kick, leave it alone, or leave. There's unfortunately not a lot you can do in this situation.

I also have a story. I always thought I was a terrible healer, but I'd say I'm more of an average one. I went into Weeping City for the first time and boy was I handed my butt. I feel terrible for my WHM buddy because they had to raise me every fight, but they were really nice about it and we joked. I think I'm going to spare everyone by just going as a DPS for now on. Healing has been getting on my nerves recently, anyway.

That's great....but this isn't a discussion thread for healer dps, pro or against, thank god. This is a venting thread. Someone came to vent. You basically said "what's the big deal, you cleared, doesn't sound that bad, party didn't skip Soar (PSA: in Zurvan Normal I have never seen a party skip Soar) which explains the healers dpsing at the expense of the party" with the implication of why are you complaining here.

From that point on, when the OP tried to explain why they thought they were justified in venting (when really, no one has to justify why they subjectively thought something from their own experience was worth venting) you've picked at them and anyone else who spoke up in defense of that entry.

Respectfully submitted, it's not up for debate. You seem very invested in defending what looks to a lot of people like a couple of healers nearly letting their duty finder party burn to the ground.

These are duty finder stories. Salt is for the popcorn.

Now, let's examine what the "bare minimum" of a "healer" job is, shall we? I would posit that it is to "heal", or perhaps, to ensure that, barring tank/DPS mistakes, the party stays alive.

Now, in the Zurvan post that started this whole thing, those healers ended up letting people die. By the standards outlined above, I think we can safely agree that they were not doing the "bare minimum" of their job. Yet, you didn't raise pitchforks against them, as you did against other healers. I don't know what you call it, but I call that a double standard, personally.

I'll assume you didn't read the part where those healers, in "contributing" to the fight, allowed both tanks and 2 DPS to die. Somehow, I don't think the DPS "contribution" of two healers, makes up for the DPS loss that dead DPS cause.

At the risk of continuing this silly discussion:

I wouldn't count letting your tank(s) die as "doing the bare minimum" as a healer.

If you're not "healing" and you're a "healer", you're probably doing it wrong. If you're doing this constantly, you're probably not "just making a mistake".

But hey, I wasn't at the raid in question so I can't say if the story is true or not - but it does take effort to make such a long post so I'm willing to give it a benefit of the doubt at the moment.

Not sure why you can't admit you've "made a mistake" and carry on if most people disagree with you.

Funny enough, the SCH I was paired with was really good, despite having five new people in the raid, we didn't lose more than probably 3 people at a time (even during Diabolos Hallow). Twas a rare sight that I was happy to be part of~

ok, so I've been following hte discussion for the past couple of pages now and I feel like i have to throw in my own 2cents here.

A healer healing is fine, a healer adding in some dps is absolutely fine.

A healer ignoring their party just to dps IS NOT FINE.

Why are you even defending it? It's not contributing, it's detrimental!

Now, on topic! My friend finished her Aetheric Condensation! So ofc I jump in as drag-along DPS for her trials (by the time I logged in she had already done Garuda, Ifrit and Titan).
Had a DPS immediately drop out of Mog, and I was confused why - then I saw we were three bards, me included. I reckon they were a bard too. In-prog right after pulling gets us... a bard. Moogle fiesta! I wish I could've commed at least one of these, but I was one comm away from hitting the challenge log and I need that for Friday. :c
Fast forward to Bismarck, our ninja immediately dces before we get on the carapace. Oh. So it's down to two summoners, one black mage. We have to go a second round because he tossed us off at 10%, so I kinda furrowed my brow at the adds. Finished those with no issue! Now then, since we've got an LB2 and the ninja is still MIA, I decide to pop the lb immediately upon jumping on his back. "wtf" goes one AST. I'm on PS4, my keyboard's downstairs. Can't defend myself while we dps down the heart in one round with that lb! Another caster immediately says "we got only casters" (again, wish I could've commed them for that but challenge log ;v; ). Turns out the other astrologian overwrote their balance with a bole. Oh man.
And in Zurvan I meet a healer I was in Dun Scaith with, leaving my friend with an ominous "oh no" before she pulls. It didn't go badly though, thank god.

She's got her Lux, I've gotten to revisit every primal except for the first three. That's a nice way to round up Heavensward. ;v;7 see ya space cowboy, the last two years with you were good and bad but mostly good. I definitely didn't cry because I got emotional when I logged out, I cried because I'm super tired from staying up till 3am watching the live letter yesterday... Definitely that, no emotions here.

My guess is they either misread or skimmed the admittedly very long post and interpreted it as a post decrying healers that dps period instead of one decrying healers that dps at the cost of other party members dying, and they're too proud to admit their mistake so they doubled down on their (otherwise correct) statement that the best healers are those that dps when healing doesn't take priority.

I can't force ideas on anyone. I don't have this mystical power you are claiming I have...if I did I'd be rich and be too busy on my yacht in the south seas and not bothering to have a job and spend all my time swimming, fishing, and eating sushi.

So I don't see how I can "go too far" unless I was continuously non stop telling her to listen to me and not tanking the dungeon until she listened or verbally harassing her with insults...which I didn't do any of those things. I continued the dungeon and at fastest pace possible minus a few mins for cooldowns (which I really needed) and a few quick typing sentences.

I mentioned it once within 2-3 minutes while tanking mobs then kept going through the dungeon (albeit struggling) until 15 mins later where I mentioned it one more time to see if she could understand I was just trying to help.

Example:
It's like this...three people building a playset.

Person A: You seem to be having a bit of trouble. *insert brief explanation of why they are having trouble*
Person B: I know what I am doing.
Person A: But...the slide is installed upside down
Person C: Who cares if the slide is upside down. Drop it.
Person B: ^
Person A: OK fine. If you don't want help I won't help :/

15 mins later

Person A: Are you sure you don't want help to install the slide properly? It can't be used like this...and its dangerous.
Person B: No stop attacking me
Person C: No. Just drop it.
Person A: This is ridiculous.

That was the end of it. Didn't mention it again. If this is going too far...then everyone should just never chat in this game at all. Both of the exchanges didn't last very long either like 3 mins each but we were fighting mobs during some of it so it wasn't like I was stopped completely and not doing the dungeon.

If you are talking about the post you quoted in your response here...you don't understand the situation because your response makes no sense to what you quoted. The post you quoted and the story I posted a few pages back are pretty much separate issues. So you might not have read all the posts between the story and the post you quoted...or you've not read them carefully.





I guess I do have a story though! It's a good story though for nice change of pace.

Got Gubal Library normal on my PLD for mentor roulette and we got to the first boss which is the book demon wall guy. I asked if anyone was new, but they all said they were fine and so we went ahead.

At around 50% HP the healer and one of the DPS died to mechanics they didn't dodge properly and lack of quick reaction by the healer, but eh it happens. I thought...well...me and the DRG are left and I do have Clemency so lets see if we can beat him.

I managed to heal both of us just enough with Clemency and using Riot Blade to get MP back for us to get him to around 10% but I was starting to not have enough MP for the damage and the boss kept choosing the DRG for his ice attack. The DRG drops to like 10 HP and I was like "noooooooooooo", but SECOND WIND and he lives just barely before the ice floor comes out and gives me enough time to get MP back to use Clemency on him again.

I tell him to LB and we get him to 1% and then finish him off! It was very satisfying and I gave the DRG my comm at the end :D

Yesterday I queued up for mentor roulette on my WHM and got into Aurum Vale. We had a DRK, BRD, and BLM. Tank does the first pull fine, but then continuously chain pulls up until the boss room. I will say as a tank and healer, I dislike chain pulling because I heavily rely on the little breaks in between to have some better MP/TP regen. During the whole situation, I'm healing and DPSing as necessary. I eventually say "Could I get ballad please" since I was getting low on MP. BRD plays it, and then after we reach the first boss, the BRD says "You should really be watching your MP." I mean, I can only do so much with Shroud of Saints and MP potions when we're chain pulling, and it was clear that the tank ran out of CDs by time we got halfway across the room. And yes, I did stop DPSing when I realized that I needed to conserve my MP because we were chain pulling and I had to spam heal the tank at times. I got a little sassy and said "Uhhhhh, we're chain pulling...", and then the BLM replies with, "So hostile". I laughed in real life and just thought to myself, "wait, what?!" (Is that actually mean?! Feeling a little conflicted...) In no way did I intend for that to be mean, and heck, I could've been a lot worse, pointing out that the DRK wasn't using Darkside and the BRD wasn't playing any songs, but I figured after that event I may as well be quiet.

Tank chain pulls for the rest of the dungeon and I keep my mouth shut. BRD randomly plays me a ballad when I don't actually need it (and I sure as heck wasn't gonna ask again even if I did need it). A somewhat unpleasant run, but made it out in the end hahaha.

So I queue up for Crysalis the other day on my alt to get a clear. We get in and a Bard says he is new so I give a quick rundown with emphasis on the orb phase black/red/etc. Well well well... apparently most of the group thought that someone else would get all of the orbs because a ton of them actually got to boss so when he did the attack everyone but me and the 2 tanks died. I res the other healer and he resses one person... and no one else... so I res everyone else. At this point I am (obviously) pretty much out of mana so I say "mage ballad please" and the Bard plays it so all is well now... up until we get another orb phase and the same thing happens only I die this time too. Ok I guess most of that part was bad... but anyway... we respawn and one of the tank says "one tank will hold the boss but everyone else needs to get orbs" and the bard says "and I will watch everyone's mana and play ballad if I see people low" I told him as long as everyone wasn't needing a res that we would probably be fine, but thanks for the offer. Anyway we cleared that time and no mana issues, but I thought it was adorable that little bard wanted to sing his song to help out so I gave him a comm. :)

Rather than just contributing snark like I had previously been doing, I will give some story with my snark.

Mind, this is probably not a terribly unusual story, but still.

This character is an alt, and I finally hit 60 with her last week. One of my pre-Stormblood goals (for no logical reason) was to get her into Dun Scaith. I hit iLvl236 just a couple days back, and I was jonesing to finally kick a bunch of floaty bosses in the face with my potato.

So I queue into Dun Scaith, and the queue pops in a relatively timely manner. We start in on Deathgaze Hollow, and I am immediately struck by how slowly he is dying. Several minutes later, he dies mid-cast for the last square.

So yes, we VERY nearly enraged the first boss in Dun Scaith - a six month old 24-man. I noped the heck out of that group since there was no conceivable way subsequent bosses would go more smoothly.

So, a bit of a boring yarn, but it shocked the heck out of me.

As an Astro if you get spear it is for a couple reasons.

1) I am waiting on a spread card for balance or arrow and rather than burn it I figure better to dump it on someone.
2) It is the start of a fight and I've already got a spread card got spear on my redraw and I figure when folks are going through their initial rotations /cooldowns that card doesn't suck as much, and it beats nothing for 30sec or longer.
3) I messed up (happens occasionally :) ).

Random is random. I've had experts where the only cards I get are spread cards and spear for the entire run. After a couple times of burning the cards I'll just use what I have.

But I could've been projecting cause I seen balance being put on others and was like " my DPS".. I should've said something but as you see in this very thread words can send people into RAGE MODE! At least they seemed to know what that song did... that comment and stuff was annoying and uncalled for but I would have taken that over the bard I had in ARF earlier:

I got ARF for my mentor-roulette (queued as scholar), the bard is apparently new, the tank and the other dps (a ninja...? Some melee for sure) are not very well geared, so I sigh a little, expecting a slow run. Everyone except the bard says some sort of greeting. I'm already a little "annoyed" by that (probably because of the combination - ARF + slow run + not even being able to say "hi", but oh well). Tank pulls single groups and single mobs when he can, but okay, no need to heal him then, Selene can handle that in her sleep! Despite me dps'ing (and most likely dealing more damage than the bard whos ofc still rocking some ilvl120 stuff - but hey, new, its okay) the bard never sings for me...
...until we reach those spheres and he thinks that I need mana now. Sitting at 2/3 I was at a SERIOUS risk of not being able to cast another brawl. He sings ballad. I tell him to turn it off and explained why and that he could switch to Foes instead (had to switch to say-chat and german to make him understand - or well, I guess "understand" because he turned it off). We reach the next sphere, I'm now at 90% mana and... he starts singing ballad again. Same happens during the second bossfight and now I'm seriously annoyed.
Thats a level 60 bard, not being aware what some pre-50-skills are doing (and apparently not being able to understand my explantion "It lowers the damage you're dealing, you shouldnt sing it when no one is low on mana"), having no clue how to actually play and to top that off: no manners either. Or no keyboard (but thats a really lame excuse).

So we reach the final boss and after two more ballad-attemteps on the way I'm so annoyed that I dont bother to tell the tank that the bard is still watching the cutscene - uuups! They got locked out during the first half of the fight and while standing on the purple wall they start singing again. A ballad...

Today Selli got a new PC. To celebrate we decided to go do a dungeon. Instead of undersizing something, I decided to queue us normally with two other FC mates.

Long story short, we ended up wiping because Selli got distracted by high quality grass texture. Apparently it looks really different than what she was used to and she wanted to go investigate it. It was super cute and we all had a good laugh about it.

Today on Sophia normal.

I was with another astrologian. He had an Ewer stocked.
He used it on me (i had no mp issue and it was the time my mp regen came back). Otherwise, he wasn't drawing cards.
The only time he did, it was to use a aoe spire on everyone... overwriting my balance (no one had tp issue).

I wanted to cry so much....

I mentioned it once within 2-3 minutes while tanking mobs then kept going through the dungeon (albeit struggling) until 15 mins later where I mentioned it one more time to see if she could understand I was just trying to help.

Example:
It's like this...three people building a playset.

Person A: You seem to be having a bit of trouble. *insert brief explanation of why they are having trouble*
Person B: I know what I am doing.
Person A: But...the slide is installed upside down
Person C: Who cares if the slide is upside down. Drop it.
Person B: ^
Person A: OK fine. If you don't want help I won't help :/

15 mins later

Person A: Are you sure you don't want help to install the slide properly? It can't be used like this...and its dangerous.
Person B: No stop attacking me
Person C: No. Just drop it.
Person A: This is ridiculous.

That was the end of it. Didn't mention it again. If this is going too far...then everyone should just never chat in this game at all. Both of the exchanges didn't last very long either like 3 mins each but we were fighting mobs during some of it so it wasn't like I was stopped completely and not doing the dungeon.

My thoughts on an issue under the cut (I kind of wish there were PMs on the forums ;-;

To be honest, I don't really remember what the quote went with. I'm pretty sure it was a few pages back (I'll edit this after I check it). I may have read things wrongs, but from what I understand, you tried to tell the healer that they were healing in cleric and they said something along the lines of, "It's okay, just keep going, don't worry." And you responded with something like, "Okay, but it's not really how you're supposed to heal." Then after a bit you had kind of the same exchange and then the healer got defensive. Then you proceeded to contact them outside the dungeon. The issue I found with this was that you tried to contact them outside of a dungeon. Yes, you're being quite helpful, and if I was in that person's shoes I'd gladly thank you can carry on my merry way. But, this person may have been told that multiple times and have gotten tired of it. Yes, it's kind of dumb for them to continue on with their way of healing when they've been told otherwise, but there's really nothing you can do.

The mentioning in the dungeon was alright, I think that was really great and shows that you care. But if you did indeed try to find them after the dungeon to tell them they are wrong, that's not really right. There's no other way I can explain this. They've shown that they obviously didn't care, and you're probably not going to see them again anytime soon in DF anyways. You really can't fix stupid sometimes :/

Like I said, I may have my stories messed up and I'm honestly really sorry if I do. I'll delete the post if that's the case, but I'm just kind of sad that people actually go to this extreme because they feel like it's helping the person.

P.S. I take back what I said about forcing and idea on someone. I now see it as suggestion as you were trying to be nice and helpful about it.

Yup I was really, really wrong. Sorry Miste!! I'm going to keep this up so that you can see what I thought happened. Thank you for attempting to help the healer, though. I'm sorry they didn't take the advice, but some people are just really... interesting.

Now for the obligatory post to prove I can stay on-topic! Featuring: PotD - The Michael Bay Edition!

To kill time, I decided to run 51-100 of PotD. Because... nostalgia? But anyway. I believe it was on floor 71 that I loaded in to a new party, got greeted, saw a nice silver chest sitting off to the side, run up to open it, and... explosion. Nice welcome gift from PotD.

But it didn't end there, oh no. No, I ended up stepping on twenty billion landmines. I had more silver chests blow up in my face. Michael Bay himself would've been so proud. In one level, I saw a silver chest, was at low HP, and decided to throw some Physicks on myself before opening it (I'll miss you, you wonderful, beautiful spell). Of course it blew up.

On another level, the floor had auto-heals disabled, and two of my party members were low on HP after fighting a mob. Hey, guess what? The mob dropped a silver chest! Did I immediately run up to it and open it? Of course I did! Did it explode, killing two of my party members? Of course it did!

Somehow, I still got a comm for blowing myself up more times than a rubber doll.

Urgh, im not even going to get back at all the stuff i read in quotes on the last 5 pages...

I adjusted my settings last night - oh boy, how i could play the game on low settings before is not understandable to me :D I can very much relate to Selli's Situation.

And, to not only share the bad stories:

To get my Whm to Lvl 60 before the addon and to be able to buy the awesome Makai Gear i went into Low Lvl Dungeon Roulette a few hours ago. We had a firsttimer (the tank) who only had one class up (Pld lvl 31) and who was completely new to the game.
After a few groups i dropped a few tips here and there (use flash more often | if you loose hate and dont have Provoke ready, throw your shield | ...) which he gladly accepted and tried to do. Even one of the dps starting handing out some advice every now and then.
Comparing the tank from the start to the tank at the end, i can only say he got better a lot :)
It's nice to see people accept tips from other players and try to get better - even when its only inside a dungeon.

flashbacks to when i was tanking Stone Vigil as Gladiator.... my poor teammates >.<

On topic.

Joined someone asking for help in novice on the Chrysilas run for story the other day.
I went as Astrologian, and the other player who joined up also went as Astrologian.

Some quick tips were posted when asked.
Save the limit break for the tear, alternate orb colors, etc...

Other ASt takes Nocturnal, I go Dinural.



It goes pretty well at the start.
First orb phase is a bit sloppy, we end up losing one of the dps, but get him back up after the unavoidable damage.


At one point I see a triple, and hit cleric stance to drop out and heal...
It activates... Oops!
But both of us were on point and my little slip up didn't cause a tank death. XD


ANother orb phase and I think two dps go down, but we get them back up shortly after.


Meteor phase...

I, as always, run away from the center before being taken in so the dot falls off before I get brought in. I also pop lumi aether and lightspeed.

Tanks aren't grabbing meteors well, or at all, I'm not quite sure...

I just recall big hits going out and all but one of the dps dropping on the floor.
Thankfully the monk survived and the limit break went off, the other AST is hammering away at the tear, I'm lightspeed spamming all I can to keep us up from the meteor damage and we make it through!

Some triage and damage control later and we've got a few up while the boss is taken out.

Sucessful clear!

Just had 3 people, one which was a scholar call me a troll and that it was worthless because i said losing Blizzard II as a scholar is going to hurt.

The world we live in. We don't deserve you Blizzard II.

My party balance got overwritten by party ewer. Thanks, random astro.
