The only way I got around this is just purchasing Game Time card from ultimategamecard.com and used that code to purchase Crysta. Once Crysta is loaded, just jump back to mog station and update your subscription by crysta. Voila! problem solved. :cool:
Anything that blocks their payment provider's script(s) from running will cause these errors. The issue is that SE's website redirects you to their processor's website just long enough to run the script(s), and then you are bounced right back to SE's website. It is very difficult to determine the payment processor's URL in order to simply allow their script(s) to run. Turning off all browser security temporarily should resolve many of the authorization errors that occur.
I tried all options available to me : direct CC and UltimatePay with CC, PayPal in numerous configurations. I ended up calling customer service and they recommended I buy time cards from amazon.com since I'm an expat & abroad...30$ shipping for 2 plastic cards. *sigh* And I was looking forward to getting the 2 extra retainers and indulging my hoarding tendencies. I use a VPN so I'll give it another try in a month -before searching the forums I must have tried two or three dozen server variations to see if anything would allow my payment through since I didn't know they followed a '1-strike' system and the VPN hadn't been running the first time. It's simply ridiculous to encounter in 2014 - I've lived abroad for over 6 years and never had an issue like this - I buy stuff on ebay & amazon, I have itunes, live and comixology accounts, I buy flowers online (note to self -don't forget to send mom flowers for Easter) - sure, sometimes I have to play around with the VPN a bit, but the transaction always go through by the 2nd or 3rd try. I know games companies are the targets of a lot of credit card fraud linked to RMT but ffs this is a renewal - I've been paying and playing for over 6 months - I'm pretty sure we've ascertained I'm not going to abscond into the night after spamming tells for a few hours.

That's odd.... I mean, if I'm not mistaken, via UltimaPay you don't directly pay to SE, you pay to UltimaPay service and they redirect the money to SE, therefore if it works for one, it should work for everyone o.o Still, I took some pictures, give them a look, make sure it's what you tried...
1) Go to: https://www.paypal.com & make an account if you don’t have any yet.
2) Log into Mog Station @ https://secure.square-enix.com/account
3) Go to Square Enix Account Settings > Add Crysta
4) Select the amount of Crysta you need (1,099Crysta if you only use 1 character per server)

Is there any e-pre pay card? where you buy it and they give you the number right away? Instead of waiting for them to mail you the card...
To add to this, you don't actually need to use paypal to pay for this, you can use your existing credit card to add crysta. They seem to accept most forms and I had no issues submitting the purchase. I then had to go back to the mogstation and pay for my account using the crysta option there when setting up recurring payment instead of the CC option I selected before.
I went out and bought a game time card!
Getting Error 601. Don't feel like buying Crysta or buying a time card that may or may not work. I did get a new debit card between payments but it won't let me update the card information due to this error; the bank isn't the problem as I've already checked and given clearance back during the first payment.
If you can't be arsed to fix the system, I guess I'll take my money elsewhere. :/
Edit: Working now. Out of curiosity, I tried this again, but globally disabled NoScript and Adblock just for the attempt. It went through without a hitch; don't know if anything changed overnight on SE's end but if this was actually my fault I figure I should mention it in case it helps others.
It doesn't work to only whitelist mog station/SE, by the way, as the payment processing service connects to a different site with its own scripts (this was mentioned earlier in the thread as well).
This is actually the first time I had so much trouble making someone take my money.....visa and mastercard CC fail ....gift card CC fail buying crystal fail........now really SE made me feel how it like being some drunk old man trying to beg a girl to follow him at his place..........and for that ...........O.O *clap clap clap clap* thank you SE T__T
I think it was NoScript more than AdBlock, unless something changed on SE's side. I had error code 601 though, not 401 or 406. If you try too many times, they lock your account though.
Nothing seems to be working for me either. Error Codes 406 and 401. Not sure what to do next except wait
I've tried using my own credit card as well having a friend try to use his. Neither option worked. I wasn't able to add Crysta to my account either.
For everyone on this tread trying to look for a solution to this issue I have done a lot of things to resolve this problem. I will list everything I have done as this might be not just one problem. I believe the issued as of today (4/7/14) it has been fixed some how.
1. Your browser maybe blocking a script or Java app.
Some one mentioned this so I removed add blocks and lower the security to allow everything to run (remember to put back to default after you try this). Also updated Java just in case. Also I have tried on another computer and Iphone. This was not my problem but could be yours.
2. The bank of your card is blocking payment because they believe its from a fraud vendor. Just call your bank to see if they noticed the $1 charges on your card and ask if they are blocking payment from that vendor. I got a call from my Chase bank the next day and had to tell them to allow it. (It still did not work for me after I allowed it)
3. If the top options fails then try getting Crysta using paypal ( Id recommend this as you do not see the $1 charges for attempts, paypal just declines the payment if it doe not work which happened to me) Tried today and it worked, it did not work the first 2 times last week.
4. IF all else fails I did have a backup plan which was just to get a time card and because I do not like shady sites I would recommend Amazon.com. Just look up Final Fantasy 14 and in the items there should be a 60 day time card for like $30. (Last time I checked it was there. Never did this option so do not ask me about it if it does not work. I had heard other people call support and force the code in to work but that's about it. The card did say PS3 but from the comments it looks like it works for PC also and that the time also add on to your Vet rewards. Hope this helps anyone.
Just thought I'd add my experience. Hopefully someday they'll stop pretending it's not their fault and fix this.

I already called my credit card company who said they could see the $1 charge getting cancelled by the merchant. There was nothing wrong with my card nor was there any blacklist against SE.
I have definitely waited more than 24 hours. But since support won't tell me, I don't know if I'm on 30 days block. How many times is "too many" to try using my card? 4? 8?

Honestly why is Crysta even an option? Why does it even exist?
All that's left for me to try is buying the time card. But for the same amount of days I want to add (180 days), I'm paying $12 more.
If I can buy multiple items on Amazon using different credit cards and addresses, why is it so hard for me to buy 1 item off SE? I don't get it. I'm practically throwing money at you! TAKE IT ;_;
I gave up in disgust half a year ago after trying every method suggested and haven't looked back. Played on a time card for 60 days but that is hardly a solution to their broken system and see no point in jumping through hoops for them.

that's so weird , I guess I don't have to tell my story , I need to tell how I feel , it was supposed to be my last day on ps3 , the day when echo comes and helps to take down Twintania , and next step move to ps4 , but Im so down now , though Im back to the game ,after 2hours of nothingless ,I still need my 10 euros back lol for .... I got my account going completely fine, but when I tried to get my account of my wife active again I was stopped at every turn by 406 error. I don't think I've ever tried so hard to give someone my money, namely having to try it on Internet explorer instead of firefox. To be perfectly honest the billing set up for this game is ugly at best and a CF at worst. It has you enter payment options only for you to have to re-enter it when you go to use a card, and it doesn't even work. I shouldn't -have- to set up a paypal account to give you guys money. We shouldn't have to jump through several loops just to enjoy ourselves.
I hate saying it but take a note from Trion or Blizzard on your payment setups. They're easy, straight forward and doesn't end up with situations like this.
I hope this silence of SE mean they are trying to finde another way for us to pay .... I realy hope this is the case not they dont care to fix it .
Ok, my friend finally could get his account work again. He bought the game card from SE (60 days is the only option), since it is a physical card he had to wait till the card arrived to his aunt's house that lives in USA (cuz we are from south america), his aunt tell him the card number and finally he could play, the whole thing was like 5 days.
It sucks now cuz another friend has this problem... wonder when gonna be my turn >.<
I bought the game Final Fantasy 14 on the portuguese playstation store and the game isnt working. I start the game , then insert the password and then it tells me to restart my client account. I emailed square enix, i tried to register my account many times, the first time i thought i did it then i ever recieved the email. I tried again to register and now it asks for my credit card information. Im on PS4, what else can i do , im not even sure if theyre trying to fix it, nor do i know if they recieved my email. Im very disappointed with square enix. At least they could email their clientes and let them know that they recieve the email and are trying to fix it. Any help would be welcome. I feel like i just wasted 50 euros and the whole day trying to figure out what is causing this problem.
Just another 406 error here. My account's been down since the 9th. Tried using 2 different CCs & nope, nada, they don't seem to want my money... Currently waiting for chat support to see what the blazes is going on but from the looks of this thread, I can expect a whole lotta nothing... Doesn't SE want to take the 6 month sub fee I've been waiting to throw at them???

Tried to update my payment information today as my previous information is for a card that doesn't exist anymore. Address matches exactly what is on file with my bank. I'm seeing $1 charges hit my bank account, still get a 406 error.
This is obnoxious. I just want to play the game with my gf but that is turning out to be impossible. Very annoying. If people want to give you money for your services, most companies make that possible. Doesn't seem like that is the case with SE as this thread is pushing triple digits in pages.
My workaround for the treacherous 401/406 error is buying the Ultimate Game Card and using that to pay for crysta. Then use that Crystal to purchase subscription of FF14. It's a tedious process but this seems to work for me every time. I also get 401/406 error when I try to use my credit card to purchase Crysta directly from the Square Enix Account Management site.
So...
1. Purchase Ultimate Game Card from pcgamesupply (You get the codes immediately)
2. Purchase Crysta using Ultimate Game Card from Square Enix Account Management Site
3. Log into Mog Station and purchase subscription using Crysta

I tried to resubscribe this morning and I got error 406 when I reached the end of the process. When I checked the credit card logs online, I see 1 dollar charges for each attempt.
What is frustrating to me is that I purchased the Digital Collector's Edition with credit card and turned right around and tried to renew my subscription with the same card. Error-Code: 406. Checked my accounts' activity and see that the Digital Collector's Edition payment for $19.99 is pending along with two $1.00 transaction from when I attempted to renew my subscription. Twice! Explain that one Square Enix? And for sanity's sake, I tried another credit card and guess what?

Deja Vu! This is ridiculous. You sell me on your drug and I get addicted. Now, I'm throwing my money at you to get that high again. Is there a treatment center for FF addicts? I want to check myself in!!!!
For some reason the only option I'm getting is to use the Steam Wallet payment(I bought the game using Steam back in February, but used Crysta to pay for the subscription last month during March.) I thought I'd use the same steps this month and added crysta onto my account but there's no other payment options.
Is there something missing or wrong? If this is working as intended, then I want a refund, as well as some sort of notification that Steam accounts cannot use Crysta for their payment method(which is just ridiculous.) please fix this, SE.
UPDATE: I just don't get it. I was able to renew my son's subscription today with same credit card with no issues. I got two sons that play the game as well. Took the payment as normal. I go back to my account to see if I could renew and got same error. There is something related to my upgrade from ps3 to ps4 as to why I am getting that payment error. I can't do anything more except to rely on Customer Support on Monday.
Square Enix has the worst customer service. I see a million of questions, myself included, ticket submissions from paying customers and they give us cookie cutter responses. I think we all know what to do. (Stop playing, stop paying, and discourage others to do the same). I only wish it was as difficult to get money out of consumers as it is to get satisfactory problem fixes out of Companies. I should have seen this coming. This was the most headache causing account creation process I have ever experienced. Everything is just clumsy and clunky.
